The Charming Ex-Wife ( Lysander and Josiah ) Online Novel
Chapter 433 The Dog Is Not So Bad
Adrian, showing no signs of distress, candidly acknowledged, âIn the past, I wasnât really skilled in the kitchen or much of a homemaker. However, Iâm prepared to change if thatâs what the woman I love needs. In a lasting relationship, sometimes one person has to be willing to compromise a little more than the
other.â
Josiahâs voice carried an ambiguous tone, making it difficult to discern whether he was being genuine or merely mocking. âFrom what Iâve heard, it sounds like youâre almost there in securing your title. I suppose congratulations might be in order.â
Adrian responded with a measured tone, âIt seems thereâs still quite a bit of distance to cover, but Iâm dedicated to continuing my efforts.â
Lysander felt a quiver in her heart, her lips parting several times as if to speak, yet she found herself unable to voice a single word. Given that Adrianâs intentions were as transparent as glass, she realized there was no need to repeat the prepared speech she had thought to persuade him to
step back.
Adrian observed her reaction, his eyes shadowed by a touch of sadness. He slowly withdrew his hand, feigning indifference as he remarked, âAs you can see, everything is quite clear between us. Iâve explained all that needed to be explained. Iâve said everything I had to say. Iâll leave you two to your conversation. I think Iâll go for a walk downstairs with White Coat.â
He pulled a newly purchased puppy leash from the shopping bag he had brought along. With a practiced. gesture, he secured the harness around the puppy and prepared to leave. As he walked out, he didnât forget to leave a parting word, âContinue with your discussion; call me if you need anything.â
Josiah chuckled lightly. âDonât worry, Dr. Sutton, Iâve got a girlfriend.â
Adrian simply smiled at Lysander, saying, âIâm off.â
With a gentle click of the door shutting, Josiah and Lysander were left alone in the expansive room, facing each other across the silent space.
After Adrianâs departure, an extended silence enveloped the room. Josiah seemed to disregard her presenc
Finishing his sandwich, he then proceeded to serve himself a bowl of oatmeal, concentrating. solely on his meal, showing no inclination to engage in further dialogue.
Yet, he was now sitting precisely where she had been, even using the utensils she had just used.
âJosiah,â Lysander called out to him.
The man did not respond.
âThis set of utensilsâ¦â
Josiah didnât even bother to look up, dismissively saying, âAfter I use them, Iâll take them away and dispose of them. Doesnât Dr. Sutton enjoy trips to the supermarket? Itâs a fine opportunity to browse new dinnerware.â
âThatâs not what I meantâ¦
âWhatever, I canât be bothered to decipher what you mean.â

Lysander hesitated for a moment before deciding to remain silent. Knowing Josiahâs penchant for cleanliness, it seemed wiser not to press the issue.
She ventured a question. âI heard from Aiden earlier that youâve rented a place here because youâre working on a nearby project. What project is it that Iâve never heard of?â
Josiah paused midâsip, his reply automatic and noncommittal, âA new project.â
His vague answer was as good as saying nothing at all.
âOh, I see.â
Josiah arched an eyebrow, his tone slightly confrontational, âYou donât have to speak if youâve got nothing to say. You never used to care about my projects.â
âI just thought your move here was quite unexpected,â Lysander retorted.
âDo you think I did this for you?â
âI didnât think of it that way.â
âYouâve seen Tiffany before.â
âI did.â
âDonât overthink it. Aiden rented this place for me. I only came here for the first time last night. I was too drunk to notice the details then. I just found out myself that he rented the place right next door to yours.â
Lysander ignored his sarcastic undertone and inquired further, âHow long are you planning to stay here? If you never go back, Madam Susan will be left alone at home.â
With a sneer, Josiah responded without looking up. âEleanor will be with her.â
Lysander noted his reluctance to engage further. For the time being, she decided it was best not to push against his evident indifference. She picked up another clean bowl from the table and began to eat her meal slowly.
The breakfast Adrian had prepared was not only varied but also plentiful. Even after Josiah and she had eaten their fill, a considerable amount of food remained on the table.
Lysander quietly rose and began to tidy up.
Meanwhile, Josiahâs attention remained elsewhere, his gaze fixed on the floor of the room, occasionally drifting towards a corner near the kitchen where supermarket bags were piled up. Without raising his eyes, he commented, âAdrian really does seem to care about you.â
Lysander simply accepted his observation.
It appeared Adrianâs efforts of giving them space would be in vain. Given Josiahâs demeanor, some resolutions were evidently not going to be reached.
Moments later, Josiah pushed himself up from the dining table. His voice was raspy as he thanked her, âThanks for the meal.â
Lysander politely responded, âYouâre welcome.â

The alcohol scent had considerably faded from Josiah since he first entered. His complexion looked notably better as he slowly made his way out, leaving without another word.
Left alone in the house, Lysander contemplated Michelle and Daphneâs situation and pulled out her phone to check her messages.
It was still early; Michelle was likely still in bed, and there was no news from Daphane either.
Shortly after, the soft sound of a door closing echoed from next door.
It must have been Josiah who had left.
Lysander peeked through the peephole, catching sight of him heading straight for the elevator. It seemed. he was off to take care of some work.
Accompanied by a soft ding, the elevator doors slowly opened. Yet, Josiah didnât immediately step inside.
Adrian, having returned from his walk, crossed paths with Josiah.
With Lysander not present, the potential for immediate tension was low. They found each other slightly. disagreeable, scarcely bothering to exchange more than a few words or even make gestures of politeness,
Having enjoyed its time downstairs, when White Coat saw Adrian halt suddenly, it promptly sat and wagged its tail eagerly.
Josiah stood impassively in front of the elevator, seemingly unaware of the man and his dog who stubbornly refused to move aside.
After a short standoff, Adrian tightened the leash in his hand, signaling to White Coat to step back with him. They cleared a path for Josiah, âYou must have important matters to attend to. After you, Mr. Guerra.
Without a sideway glance, Josiah passed by him unceremoniously, leaving behind a brief comment, âThe dog isnât too bad.â
