Chapter 428 Is She Also Your Woman
âIâve already told you, please stop pestering Zachary so much,â Lysander chided her sister.
âBut Zachary himself mentioned that he had some free time today and had to run a few errands in that part of town anyway. It actually works out perfectly, being right on his way,â Michelle countered.
Lysanderâs response was tinged with urgency. âIâve repeatedly told you not to get involved with himâ¦.. Michelle, can you please just listen to me?â
âDid things end that badly with Zachary? Why do you seem so eager to avoid him?â
âJust stop questioning me.â Lysander insisted. âDo what youâre told, okay? Iâm going to pick up Mom this afternoon. Stay at home and behave yourself, all right?â
âAll right, I get it.â
It was only after she had ended the call that Zachary let out a chuckle. âAre you really that frightened of
me?â
Lysander did not offer him a welcoming look. âIf youâve finished what you had to say, then please leave.â
âIâm on my way out, but you might want to consider trying a little harder. After all, Josiah is a man who once had genuine feelings for you. If things get desperate⦠you might have to make some sacrifices. You know, with most men, as long as their physical needs are met, all other matters can usually be negotiatedâ¦â
Lysander glared at him furiously. âYou must really have been born the wrong gender. If you were a woman, I imagine youâd be using your body to barter for all kinds of favors.â
âYou should count yourself fortunate,â he retorted. âIf Josiah wasnât straight, I might actually find him quite appealing.â
Lysander responded with scorn, âWell then, I wish you bright future.â
With a dismissive gesture, she turned her back, neatly sidestepped him, and strode away with determination.
Zacharyâs voice followed her retreat, resonating through the air, âIâll be eagerly awaiting your good news.â
Later that afternoon, Lysander caught a taxi and journeyed to the bus station to collect her mother, Laura.
When Laura appeared, it was evident she was far from fine; the redness in her eyes was a silent testament to tears recently shed, likely a result of her lessâthanâideal visit back to her hometown.
Laura confessed, âYour eldest uncle is planning on constructing a home but finds himself short of the necessary funds; your second uncleâs daughter is preparing for marriage, needing a sizable dowry, leaving him strapped for cash too. And your aunt, sheâs not faring well either, so I found it too difficult to broach the subject with her.â
Embracing her mother warmly, Lysander consoled her, âLetâs not lose heart, weâll tackle these issueâs one at a time. We still have a few days left; Iâll figure something out.â
Laura asked, âBy the way, Lysa, youâre close to Daphne, arenât you? Maybe you could inquire if she couldâ¦â

myriad problems, the Everharts were not in a position to assist.
âIâll look into it, but let me take you home first,â Lysander reassured her, feeling the weight of the numerous complications that seemed to converge upon her return to her homeland.
After ensuring her mother was settled at home and sternly advising them against contacting Zachary, Lysander made her way directly to Guerra Groupâs towering office building.
Zacharyâs earlier words rang trueâbeing marked by someone of his character was a recipe for ceaseless trouble. Zachary had made it clear he was not one to relent until his goals were achieved.
Upon her arrival at the Guerra Group building, Lysander was met with the news from a receptionist that Josiah was not present.
Has he gone shopping with his new girlfriend again?
Without Tiffanyâs contact details, Lysander had no option but to turn to Zane for assistance.
The atmosphere around Zane was distinctly chaotic; the faint sound of billiard balls clashing was audible in the background.
âSounds like youâre at a billiard lounge?â Lysander guessed.
Zane responded with a nonchalant hum, âSeems like Josiah has reignited his interest in pool. He was here just the other day, and now heâs back.â
âStill hanging out with the usual crowd?â Lysander probed.
Zane exhaled sharply.
âWhatâs wrong?
âItâs complicated,â he replied cryptically, âYouâll see what I mean when you get here.â
Hearing this, Lysander surmised the situationâmustâve been complicated..
Despite being somewhat prepared, Lysander was still surprised upon her arrival at the billiard lounge.
Previously, the clientele had been predominantly male except for one female college student. This time, however, the scene was quite differentâall the patrons were women.
Among them, âLysander immediately recognized oneâa woman with vibrant red lips and luxuriantly wavy hair, whom she had seen with Josiah in Skywatch under the moonlight. She sat casually next to Josiah, holding his blazer and a cigarette with practiced ease, the smoke swirling around her.
As Josiah took his shot, standing back to survey the table, Lysander noted his right wrist appeared swollen compared to his left.
Not far from this scene, Lysanne and Tiffany were deep in conversation, surrounded by several unfamiliar
faces.
What exactly is happening here!
Zane, suddenly appearing, whispered, âLysander! You got here quickly; I thought Iâd have to wait longer.â

Lysander, still perplexed by the scene, questioned, âThese women⦠they all relate to Josiah somehow?â
Zane ran his fingers through his hair, his expression perplexed. âIâm not sure what Josiahâs plan is, but it seems these women arenât bothered by each otherâs presence. Itâs not our place to comment, really.â
âWhat about Tiffany and Lysanne? Do they not mind?â Lysander queried.
Zane chuckled, âWhat can Lysanne do? She just has to put up with whatever Josiah decides. As for Tiffanyâ¦â He trailed off as he felt a piercing gaze on him.
âZane.â
âDid you call me, Josiah?â Zane hurried over to him after shooting Lysander a look. âWhatâs wrong?â
Josiah glanced at Lysander and frowned. âWhy is she here again?â
âIâI have no idea.â
Till is on her period and canât have anything cold. Go get her some warm water from the bar.
âHuh? Oh, right, of course.â
The lady with red lips and curly hair leaned closer to Josiah and remarked, âMr. Guerra, youâre really thoughtful.â
Josiah halted her with a raised hand. âWhatâs that smell? Itâs overwhelming.
âPerfume,â she said.
Josiah scowled. âWhat sort of perfume? It smells strange.â
The woman leaned in closer, a mischievous sparkle in her eye. âItâs called Dawn after Sex.â
âForeigners sure are bold when it comes to nares.â
âTheyâre more openâminded, after all. Here, have a sniff. Doesnât it smell like youâve just had sex?â
Josiah shook his head irritably. âStop messing around.â
âWhatâs the problem, canât you handle a bit of humor now that youâve got a serious girlfriend?â The lady with red lips and curly hair clicked her tongue. âYouâve switched partners yet again, but it looks like youâre still being bossed around, arenât you?â
Josiah abruptly extinguished his cigarette by stamping it under his shoe, issuing a stern warning, âSheâs still young. Watch how you speak.â
âFeeling a little heartbroken?â The woman probed further, âBut why do I get the impression that she isnât truly the one who captures your heart?â
Josiah let out a disdainful scoff, Thatâs absolute nonsense.â
âMoreover, they claimed you have been deeply in love with your former wife for over two decades. However, from what Iâve observed, it hardly seemed significant. You scarcely spared her a glance, and it almost appeared as though there was a palpable disdain from you toward her.â

Taking his turn at the pool table once more, Josiah leaned over with practiced ease. With a precise and smooth stroke, he sent the white ball careening toward the edge of the table, where it rebounded and nestled perfectly behind the coffeeâcolored ball, executing an impeccable snooker.
The lady with red lips and curly hair, her eyes twinkling mischievously, turned her gaze toward Lysander who wasnât standing too far off. With an inquisitive tilt of her head, she asked, âIs she another one of your women?
