Chapter 391
The Charming Ex-Wife ( Lysander and Josiah ) Online Novel
Chapter 391 Truly Fortunate
Lysander was, admittedly, somewhat at a loss for words.
That was the truth, indeed.
She had only been in Stounia for a few days when she had another âchance encounterâ with him.
Lysander asked. âThat day at the pharmacy⦠Was it truly a coincidence that we met?â
This time, it was Josiahâs turn to be helpless. âEven if I were incredibly skilled, itâs not like I can predict the future. Thereâs no way I could have known when you were planning to go to that pharmacy.â
âThatâs true, indeed.â
Josiah said, âCould this be what they call⦠fate?â
âStounia was the first country to experience the Industrial Revolution, a land deeply rooted in materialism. But they also believed in God. Then even the heavens canât enforce laws across borders.. right?â
Josiah couldnât help but chuckle. âHeaven might not be able to help, but perhaps the god of love could.â
As they were speaking, the door to the ICU was pushed open.
âDr. Thorne.â
Lysander walked over, asking, âDr. Riley, how is my momâs condition?â
Riley appeared quite relaxed. âDonât worry. Rest is all thatâs needed now. Perhaps you possess some sort of miraculous power. Her vital signs have basically returned to normal. This afternoon, Iâll have the nurse move your mom to a regular ward. Youâll be able to see her and talk to her then.â
Lysander sincerely expressed her gratitude. âThank you. I appreciate your help.â
âItâs all part of the job. Nothing bothersome,â Riley jested with a cheerful smile. âBut your husband⦠He was here with you all night. However long you slept, thatâs how long he served as a human couch. He didnât move a muscle, afraid he might wake you. Just watching him gave me sympathy aches.â
The smile on Lysanderâs face subtly froze.
Josiah said, âFamily members should naty
support each other. When my grandma was hospitalized, Lysander was completely dedicated and did her best. Itâs all about reciprocity.â
Riley sincerely exclaimed, âDr. Thorne is truly fortunate to have found such a wonderful husband.â
âIâm truly fortunate to have married Lysander.â
âWell, well⦠How sweet.â Riley chuckled lightly. âAll right. Enough with the loveyâdovey stuff. Iâve got work to do. If thereâs anything else, come find me later.â
âSure, thanks a lot.â

Lysander gave him a glance. In the past, he would always pick her up at the hospital entrance in his car His appearance was quite striking, and his demeanor was extraordinary, making it easy for him to be recognized.
Speaking of which, Lysander was also quite puzzled about one thing
âWith these qualities of yours, how come Lysanne hasnât taken a liking to you after all these years? I wonder, is there something wrong with you, or is it her?â
Josiah asked, âDo you still remember Paulo?â
âYes, Rinaâs newlywed husband:
âHe was also considered a close friendâ of Lysanne.â
Lysander raised an eyebrow. âIs it the âclose friend Iâm thinking of?â
âPerhaps. Back then, I was in the country, and she was in Stounia. She must have made quite a few close friends. As for whether there were any ambiguities that surpassed friendship, she denied it categorically, and I couldnât make a definitive statement either.â
Lysander furrowed her brows. âDid she have anything to do with the failure of Pauloâs previous marriage?â
Josiah glanced at her. âI donât know.â
Lysander looked somewhat disdainful. âYou claim to like her, yet you know nothing about the men in her life? Given your style, shouldnât you have driven all these soâcalled close friends away?â
Josiah was quite speechless. âDo you think I havenât tried that before?â
âDidnât it work out?â
âHave
you ever solved a practical problem when you were a kid? Imagine filling a pool with water while simultaneously draining it. When would it finally be full?â
Lysander understood clearly. âSo, youâre saying you canât keep up with her pace of making new close friends while youâre still trying to deal with the old ones?â
Josiah let out a deep sigh. âPerhaps she was born to love a life where sheâs the center of attention, like the moon surrounded by stars. She wouldnât give up an entire forest for a single tree.â
âSo, youâre just⦠not going to care? Youâre giving up? Letting her do as she pleases? Not uttering a word even when youâre being stepped all over?â
Josiah immediately retorted, âI was just a good friend back then. How was I supposed to speak up?â
Lysander nodded, âYouâre right. Youâre just one fish in her pond, not yet a permanent fixture, without any official status.â
âYouâve reminded me,â Josiah said, retrieving her phone the inner pocket of his suit with a frown. âAdrian has been calling you quite a lot.â
âGive it to me. Iâll respond to him.â

Lysander watched him, waiting for his next words.
It seemed as though Josiah had made up his mind not to mention that person again. âLetâs go. We should check on Mrs. Thorne first. Do we need to do anything special to transfer her to a general ward? You can stay with her. Iâll handle the procedures.â
Lysander took a deep breath, still gazing at him.
Josiah slightly tilted his head. âWhatâs wrong?â
Lysander gave up. âThereâs no need for procedures. The nurse will handle everything.â
âGood. Thatâs a relief. Is this foldable bed borrowed from the obstetrics and gynecology department? Iâll retum it.
As he spoke. Josiah bent down to tidy up, compressing the foldable bed into a compact size and picking it up. âShould I put it in your office?â
Lysander softly hummed in agreement.
âAll right. Iâll send it back now.â
The foldable bed was neither too big nor too small. She had quite a struggle moving it from the obstetrics and gynecology department. Yet, when Josiah took it with one hand and walked away, he was light on his feet. This weight was nothing to him. In no time, he entered the elevator.
The ICU was also bustling with activity.
A few nurses were in the process of removing various tubes and instruments from Mollyâs body. When she was wheeled out, she abruptly grabbed onto Lysanderâs hand. She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but she couldnât utter a single word, despite several attempts.
Nothing was left but the crystal clear tears that trickled down from her eyes.
The young nurse hadnât noticed that she was gripping Lysanderâs hand tightly while pushing the stretcher toward the elevator. Taken by surprise, Molly almost fell off the bed due to the sudden pull.
Lysander was startled, too, and hurriedly took two quick steps to catch up. At the same time, she steadied. Molly, whose body was on the verge of collapsing.
The group of young nurses was quite starded. They quickly assisted Molly in getting her comfortably reclined again.
âMadam, could you please let go first? We should head to the general ward first.â
It seemed as though Molly hadnât heard. Her bony hand gripped Lysanderâs tightly, the grip growing stronger, and her eyes filled with pleading.
The young nurse was at a loss and she hesitated before saying, âDr. Thorneâ¦
With a sigh, Lysander said, âLetâs go, Iâll come with you.â

This was a standard hospital ward, yet it was anything but ordinary.
This was the kind of place where typically only highâranking officials could reside, an absolute VIP
treatment.
Without a doubt, this was the handiwork of Josiah.
Lysander watched as their hands intertwined and gently suggested, âLet go first. Iâll go and fetch a companion chair.â
Mollyâs grip loosened for a moment, but she quickly tightened it again, her entire being consumed by
tension.
With no other choice. Lysander could only stand by the bedside, within her line of sight, watching the nurses bustling about.
âDr. Thome, everything has been arranged. From now on, Wanda will be in charge of taking care of Mrs. Thome.â
Wanda earnestly said, âDr. Thorne, if thereâs anything you need in the future, just look for me.â
âOkay, thank you.â
âIâll let you rest now, Mrs. Thorne. I wonât bother you any further. If you need anything, just ring the bell for me,â she said.
âOkay, sure.â
All the nurses had left, leaving only Molly and her in the hospital ward.
She locked eyes with Molly, both mother and daughter harboring mixed emotions.
Molly found herself at a loss for words, leaving Lysander to break the silence first.
âIâve been Lysander for more than twenty years. My parents have always treated me well, so Iâm not yet ready to start calling you something else.â
It seemed that Molly didnât care about this. She tried to shake her head, her tears flowing even more fiercely.
Lysander continued, âIâve heard about what happened before. It wasnât your fault that I got lost when I was young, and Iâve lived a good life these past twentyâsome years. Iâve never held any grudges against you. But I also understand that youâve cared for Lysanne as your own daughter for nearly thirty years, and you have deep emotional ties with her. To you, she and I are like two sides of the same hand, but for me, I canât treat her as a sister, not even as a regular friend.â
