9. Best Friends Forever

Akshit was having his second ice cream. Raina was tapping the table in hurry. She signalled Dia to do something.

Dia eyed her phone, Raina understood the plan and smiled at her saying she was ready.

Dia took the phone in such a way so that Akshit won't notice. She dialled Raina's number. Soon Raina's phone rang. Raina picked it up immediately and talked animatedly over the phone.

"Hello, Anjali!!"

"Oh. That file? "

"What you are at my apartment."

"Just give me ten minutes. I'll be there. "

She put the phone back in the pocket of her trousers and turned to Akshit, "Akshit, give me your car keys. I have to give a file to my colleague urgently."

Akshit said standing up from the seat, "Hey!! We will also come. Anyways, it's already late."

Raina mentally face palmed herself, "Just give me keys. I'll be right back."

Akshit choose not to argue and gave her car keys. Raina took the keys and sprinted towards his Range Rover.

After midnight, it was his b'day and they have been celebrating it on the Juhu beach for years without any miss.

But this year, girls were not expecting him to come due to workload but he did.

She parked her car in front of the building and came back with his gift which Raina and Dia had bought for him a month ago.

She went to a bakery and got a small cake. She put them in the trunk not wanting him to get suspicious.

She returned to the ice cream parlour after fifteen minutes. Raina showed thumbs up to Dia for accomplishing her half plan.

She told Akshit, "Buddy. Let's move to our beach."

Akshit smiled hearing that, "Of course, you both will never forget my birthday."

Dia exclaimed happily, "Never!!"

Raina again insisted on driving, Dia and Akshit were settled on backseat cracking silly jokes.

Seeing the roads of Mumbai, she remembered the day when she laid her first step in this city.

After that car accident, some NGO people picked her from the road, they were returning to Mumbai so they also took her to the city of dreams. She got placed in a child shelter home and there she met Dia who was also living there.

A boy used to came there with his grandfather for charity work every weekend, Dia was already friends with him but Raina was not in good condition, she was depressed.

Akshit and Dia together tried to bring her back to life. Old bubbly and easy-going Raina was lost somewhere but they manage to bring a tough and a fighter Raina.

Akshit's parents were living in Paris and he was in India with his Grandparents. One day, she heard that his parents were flying back to India but the plane crashed. That day she witnessed a broken Akshit.

He was very fond of singing, whenever she felt sad, he used to sing for her but he stopped singing. Raina was in the same pain, the pain of losing her parents.

She helped Akshit to heal and in that way she was healing too but nightmares were not leaving her, she had witnessed her parent's murder, at a point, she feared falling asleep and over the years her sleeping time reduced. Whenever she sleeps, her sleep ended with a bizarre dream and she had nobody to console her, in childhood Dia would wake up the whole night for her but later Raina didn't want her to do that. She took therapies but it didn't help much.

Akshit's grandparents helped both Dia and Raina in many ways, like getting scholarships in good schools and colleges. It was no big deal as both girls are one level up in studies.

From the time Akshit lost his parents, it was their rule to celebrate their birthday peacefully with each other. They manage to spend time together for their birthday no matter what.

Two years ago, Akshit went to Paris to handle his business, at that time he was very confused about choosing his passion or responsibility but our two smart girls told him to balance both, and from then he started singing on the internet.

Soon his songs gained popularity and he became an internet sensation. He controlled his business too perfectly.

Raina realised that they have reached Juhu beach. The trio came out from the car and Dia picked a mat and they spread it on the sands. Leaves of Palm trees were dancing with the breeze. They sat there and talked about their life mostly like

Akshit teased Dia with Gaurav's name.

Akshit said, "So Dia when you are planning to get married?". He asked it like 54th time from the evening.

Dia pulled her hair in frustration, "Arghhhh!!!?!!"

He started laughing like a pig rolling on the mat. Raina suddenly asked, "Leave her...When are you going to introduce your girlfriend.."

He stopped laughing and stared at Raina and again started laughing, "You know. For introducing a girlfriend, I have to make one first."

Dia gasped, "Don't you dare to lie. I have seen your fan clubs on social networking sites and you are saying that no girlfriend."

Akshit pulled up his imaginary collars of round neck t-shirt., "Well, I am unique.."

Dia rolled her eyes, Akshit said, "Yeah, roll your eyes maybe you can find your brain inside."

Dia whacked his head and he winced in pain. Raina checked the time, it was 11:50, only 10 minutes were left so she signalled Dia to keep him busy. Dia knew that Akshit was obsessed with his hair so she ruffled them and ran to the other side.

Akshit shouted, "You monkey!!! Wait!! Where are you running?" With that, he ran after her.

Raina stood up and went to the car. She came back with his gift and cake. She placed the gift near a tree, not to make it obvious and kept the cake with herself,

A few minutes later both of them returned, Dia's hair was looking like a nest. Akshit was smiling proudly like he achieved something great while Dia was frowning.

Both of them sat down there. Raina laughed after seeing her like that.

Dia glared at her, "Not you again."

Raina saw the time, it was 11:59.

Dia pulled a small and beautiful cake out of the box and lit a candle on it. She thrust a knife in his hand and said, "Now, my soldier!!! Ready to attack the cake!!"

He laughed but his eyes were turning glassy, Dia shook her head silently saying 'don't you dare to ruin this moment with your bawling'.

Akshit puff the candle and both the girls sang the Happy Birthday song. He cut the cake and took two pieces in his hand and fed them both. Dia cut a piece and fed our birthday boy.

She was smirking, and in just less than a second, that yummy whipped cream was smeared on his face.

Dia said, "Revenge completed."

Akshit muttered, "Monkey!!"

Raina asked, "So Akshit, ready for your gift..?..?"

Akshit looked up in confusion, the cake was surprising in itself because his arrival was not predicted and in much less time, they managed a gift too?

Raina took out the gift from the palm tree's shadow, Akshit gasped seeing it. From the box, it was certain that what it was.

A Guitar... A Martin's Guitar.

Dia asked, "Did you like it? "

He took the guitar in his hand and said in a hushed voice, "It's amazing...But you two didn't need to do this much..It is very expensive."

Raina shrugged . He smiled, "I will play this guitar on my first concert here."

Dia said, "I am not going to wait for that much time. I want to hear the song now."

Akshit bowed his head in mocking way and muttered, "Of course, your highness."

He hold that guitar close to his heart ans started hitting perfect chords forming a melodious tune.

He started humming in his soothing voice .
