Chapter 22
Spoiled (Lily)
Looking at these two shameless people, Bettany was furious. She knew it was all an act. Pretending to regret their previous actions and accusing Lilly of being a cruel and ungrateful person if she ignored the fact that she caused his brotherâs death. When Bettany remembered how her daughter was ill-treated by these scums, she started having breathing difficulties and gasped for air.
Lilly was the first person to notice something wrong with Bettany. She held her arms and asked, âGrandma, how are you?â
Bettany wiped her tears and hugged Lilly. She lamented Lillyâs unfortunate situation.
Lilly comforted her, âGrandma, donât be scared. I am here. Iâll be by your side.â
Gilbert went to get some medicine for Bettany. The party was once again in a mess.
Everyone looked at the members of the Crawford family and the two people who begged and cried.
âAre they here to cause a scene? They just had to come here on the childâs birthdayâ¦â
âThat might not be the case. They looked pitiful. Iâm sure they had no choice but to do this,â
One of them said, âStephen isnât really a good personâ¦â The Hatcher familyâs case was still under investigation, so not many people knew about it.
Another person said, âYou canât blame him. His unborn child was dead. Itâs understandable if he couldnât control his temper and hit someoneâ¦â
Edward was impatient, He asked, âAnthony, why arenât we throwing them out yet?â
Anthony said calmly, âWe wonât let them go so easily.â He wanted to deal with these two people after Lillyâs birthday. However, they came to him instead.
Under Anthonyâs orders, Jack already went to retrieve the evidence.
When Anthony found Lilly, Lilly insisted she did not push anyone. As Lillyâs uncle, Anthony would seek justice for her.
Stephen knelt and cried for a long time. Soon, he realized everyone was ignoring him. The members of the Crawford family stared at him coldly, while the other guests were waiting to see what would happen.
He could only look at Lilly and said, âLilly. Forgive Daddy⦠I acted on impulse because you caused your brotherâs death. You know I wouldnât do that usuallyâ¦â
Stephen thought Lilly would stay quiet because she was afraid. However, Lilly said calmly, âDaddy, you are lying.â
âDaddy isnât lying. Iâm notâ¦â
Lilly said, âDaddy would beat Lilly in the past. Daddy always beats Lilly.â
Stephen was rendered speechless. He was annoyed because Lilly wasnât working with him.
âI am your father! Lilly!â
Anthony received a document from Jack and chuckled, âIâm not sure if you are really Lillyâs father or not.â
A parrot was standing on Jackâs shoulder. The crowd scared it, so it jumped onto Lillyâs shoulder.
Everyone was curious about what Anthony would do next.
While holding the document, Anthony asked, âDebbie, did you say it was Lilly who pushed you and caused your miscarriage?â
Debbie felt anxious all of a sudden. She said while choking, âIt wasnât Lilyâs fault. She was an insecure child after allâ¦â
Anthony chuckled, âDid you think you could do anything you wanted because there wasnât a security camera at the Hatcher residence on the day of the incident?â
Debbie was clueless, âMr. Crawford, what are you talking about? I donât understandâ¦â
Anthony looked at the parrot and said, âLilly, bring Polly here.â
Lilly brought Polly over and comforted it, âPolly, itâs all right. Uncle Anthony doesnât eat birds.â
Debbie looked at the parrot. It suddenly flapped its wings and said, âDonât come close! Beware of the dog!â
Debbie forced a smile and said, âWhat is thisâ¦â
To Debbieâs surprise, what the parrot said next was in her voice and tone.
âIâm very pitiful⦠When your uncles asked you, just tell them you are the one who pushed me.
Understand?â
âYou are such a bad girl. I will beat you up!â
Debbie froze up. That darn bird repeated everything she said to Lilly that day.
Everyone else was stunned. They wondered if the truth was different from what they knew.
With the people doubting her, Debbie looked at Stephen and said, âAre you suspecting me of accusing Lilly? That was my child! Why would I harm myself and my own child to accuse her? What would I gain from doing that⦠You canât suspect me because of a bird! Iâm already very sad because I lost my childâ¦â
Then, Debbie started crying.
Anthony adjusted his tie and said, âWhat a great act.â
Once again, Jack projected the video from the USB drive on the screen.
In the video, there was the pregnant Debbie and Lilly, who were holding a rabbit. They were half a meter apart. Suddenly, Debbie leaned backwards and fell down the stairs. It was clear that Lilly did not touch Debbie!
Debbie was dumbfounded. The video shouldnât have existed since there was no security camera in the first place.
Stephen was more shocked than Debbie. He turned around and slapped Debbie.
âWhatâs going on? Huh?â
Debbie covered her face. She had no explanation for that.
âI⦠I donât knowâ¦â Debbie started crying, âI was confused. I donât remember anythingâ¦â
âYou donât remember? Let me help you jog your memory!â said Anthony.
He took out a paper from the document and threw it on Debbieâs face.
âYour miscarriage was pre-planned. It was also fake that you bled twice during the surgery.â
The paper was a notice claiming the doctor was punished for accepting Debbieâs bribe to forge her medical report.
With every piece of evidence present, Debbie was no longer innocent.
