Chapter 27

Unnatural forces

I had been driving for about 3 hours. I couldn't remember this trip being so long when we left home. It was the next day and i had woken up early in the morning to head back to my school. Well maybe it was more accurate to say my old school? The future seemed so bleak now that my parents had turned out to be sadistic haters of the supernatural. But at least I had Nana and Finn.

Last night after Gabriel had so rudely and hurtfully run after Gisele. I gripped the steering wheel harder. I couldn't believe him. After the time we'd had together on the roof he just left! I was right, he didn't have feelings for me and I had been stupid enough to think he had. But surely he felt something for me...right? Otherwise he wouldn't have gone all out to save me, right? I hadn't slept all night trying to figure this out then in the early hours of the morning, I had an epiphany. The only person who had ever managed to set my head straight about human things was Lola. My best friend. Once I had reached the conclusion that I needed Lola I could hardly wait for the sun to come up. I took my time to shower and get dressed then I had left the base.

Now I was passing through town and I realized i had missed this place. It had been more than 3 weeks since I left and it felt weird seeing normal people - mortals. Later I would go to our house, I missed it there but for now, i needed my best friend. I managed to reach school before classes had started as was my aim. I drove to the parking lot and parked my car the the space I always used.

Lola's Mini Cooper was already parked in her spot next to mine. I got out and locked the doors behind me. The school still had the same oppressive scent that it always had but the only difference this time was that I had risen above it. It nolonger affected me at all.

I flipped my curly hair as I walked down the lot. I had wished many times I could come to school as myself and i finally did it. It was so liberating I felt like skipping down the parking lot. I didn't even care about the people who were staring at me the way they always did.

A group of the populars had just noticed me, and they started towards me.

"Well well, look who has decided to show up to school." A jock who's name I couldn't remember said stopping right in front of me.

"You are in my way." I said.

"You have some nerve coming back here, psycho. I thought you had finally reached breaking point." Amy said with a frown.

"Last I was here, people were calling you psycho. How are you holding up?" I tilted my head to the side and just when she was about to answer I raised my hand to stop her. "Oh wait. I don't care."

She gasped dramatically. I tried to walk around them but another one of their entourage blocked me again

"I heard you went to live in the forest with the foxes. And judging by your hair, it's true" she said.

Before I could retort something, Amy interjected. "I read somewhere that living with animals is something mad people tend to do."

"Whoa Amy, you can read?" I was genuinely surprised.

She gasped dramatically again. "You listen to me, you little shit-"

"Amy? Whats going on?" Lola's voice called out from behind me.

I turned around. "Lola." I smiled at her as she walked up to us.

"Santana? What are you doing here?" She asked looking confused. She passed me by and went to stand next to Amy.

I frowned. "Are you friends with them now?" I asked not wanting to believe it.

At least she had the decency to look abashed.

"Yeah that's right, order was finally restored in your absence. Lola is now friends with her own kind." Amy sneered.

My mouth hung open as I looked from Amy to Lola. "Lola? Is this true?"

"Look, Santana you left. You left without so much as an explanation, what did you expect me to do?" Lola said shifting about on her feet.

I sighed. "Can we talk?" I asked.

"Oh no, I don't think so." Amy said putting her hand in front of Lola. "Lola has nothing to say to you, Ms Crazy-town."

"Don't call her that!" Lola yanked Amy's arm away from her and she walked towards me.

"Lola!" Amy screamed. "Get back here right now! Or you will be sitting alone in the cafeteria! And you are uninvited to my birthday party."

Lola paused then turned around to Amy with a winning smile. "You know what Amy? You can go and fuck yourself."

I grinned at the look on Amy's face. And I took Lola's hand and pulled her toward my car. We jumped into my Range Rover still laughing at Amy's outraged curse.

"'you are uninvited to my party.'" Lola imitated Amy in a stuck up British accent as she put on her sit belt. "Who died and made her queen of the world? Im still reigning!"

I laughed at her imitation as I drove out of school.

"I can't stand her!" Lola was still ranting.

"Then why did you become friends with her?" I asked bewildered. We both hated Amy and had spent many afternoons thinking of ways to destroy that perfect hair of hers.

"You left me in this shit hole by myself! I was hurt and angry." She said looking at me.

"So you decided to punish yourself?" I raised an eyebrow.

"I thought it would hurt you the most. Are you hurt?" She asked.

I laughed again and she laughed along. "Not really. So you didn't tell anyone about...?" I asked anxiously.

Lola shook her head. "No." Her mood sobered up. "Why did you come back? I thought you'd left forever."

"Think I'd leave without telling you or saying goodbye? You're like my sister." I said with a tiny frown.

"Sisters don't disappear with some strange men and then diss their sisters when they come to rescue them." She pointed out.

"You are right. But so much has happened, Lola and it's complicated. I couldn't explain it to you at that time and that totally killed me. But now it's all over and I want my best friend back. If she will forgive me." I said occasionally glancing at her.

Lola sighed. "Girl, you know I love you and I can't stay mad at you! I'm so happy you back. I been worried." She said with a big grin on her face.

I smiled. "Really? I missed you so much. I have alot to tell you."

"So I'm finally going to get an explanation?"

I glanced at her. "I believe you are." I muttered easing the car into the parking space of an ice cream place we always go to.

"You have changed." She said.

"I have? How?" I asked shutting off the engine and in doing my seat belt.

"I don't know. But you are different." Lola said staring at me wide eyed.

"My hair is different." I offered opening my door and stepping out. "Come on let's find a booth."

We headed into the shop, ordered and looked for the most isolated booth.

"So I'm all ears." Lola said settling into her seat.

"What I'm about to tell you should stay between us. You can never ever repeat it to anyone. Ever. Telling other people could be a matter of life or death. Do you understand?" I cautioned looking directly into her eyes so she knew I was serious. I trusted her though. I knew she wouldn't betray me because I had been telling her secrets ever since we met and she had never betrayed me.

"Okay..." She said slowly.

"Promise me!"

"I promise! Tell me."

"Okay this is going to sound crazy but I need you to keep an open mind." I said.

"Thats what people say when they are about to suggest a threesome." Her eyes widened. "Did you have a threesome? With Mr McLain and Mr Sexy McDreamy?"

I just stared at her. How could she have possibly come to that conclusion? "No! Lola! You need to calm down and shut up."

She released a breath. "Okay. Talk."

I took a deep breath. "Remember what happened to Ced- Mr McLain that week I left?"

"Who could forget?" She muttered.

"I did that. I made that desk trap him against the wall." I said grimly.

Lola laughed exactly the way I had done when Cedric had told me about supernaturals. "Santana you have lost your mind!"

"I have supernatural powers." I ignored her laughing.

"Oh and I am a vampire." She mocked laughing.

"I told you to keep an open mind!" I reminded her.

"Oh be serious, Santana." She moaned.

"Okay." I focused on her ice cream cup and I mind controlled it towards me.

Lola's eyes widened and her mouth dropped open. I smirked in satisfaction.

"What...how...?" She stammered as I mind controlled the cup back to her. She looked up at me with wonder in her eyes. "What are you?" She whispered.

"Im what we call a Guardian..." I then launched into an explanation about Supernaturals. I tried not to get into too much detail only telling her the things that were very basic. She was mind blown by all of it and I could tell she was hovering between believing and thinking this was insane. Which was totally understandable because it really was crazy.

After that I told her about my parents and Nana and how we rescued her and how I was kidnapped. I cried a little when I talked about my parents and the kidnapping. She was enraged by Damien's behavior and my parents' behavior.

"I can't believe your father would do that! It's insane!" Lola exclaimed.

"I know." I muttered staring down at my now empty ice cream cup.

Gentle hands touched mine. "I'm sorry this had to happen to you." Lola said gently.

I sighed looking up. "Its okay. The thing about my parents sucks so much but I got my Nana back and I kinda love being supernatural." I finished the sentence with a slight grin.

"How is Finn taking all this? You said he's a...banshee?" She frowned.

"A seer." I corrected. "And he's doing pretty good actually. He's happy for now. Loves that we aren't going to school." I laughed picturing Finn running around the house with his female friends.

"What are you going to do about that? Are you coming back?" Lola asked.

"Honestly, I have no idea. I guess all this depends on one thing." Gabriel. Everything somehow always circles back to him.

"What is that? Your parents?"

"Oh no, I don't think I wanna see them anytime soon. They are dangerous." I sighed. "Remember the other Guardian I told you about?"

"The one you like? Gabriel, was it?" Lola ventured surprising me.

"How did you know I liked him?" I asked in wonder.

"Girl, please I can read you like a book. I have never seen you talk about someone the way you talk about him. Your eyes light up, you smile subconsciously and you even play with your hair." She looked at me seriously. "This isn't just a crush, is it?"

Ah of course she had found me out! She knew me too well. In the past she had always know i had a crush on a guy before even I discovered it. I smiled. "No it's not. I'm pretty sure I love him." I choked on the last words.

"Aww my baby is in love!" Lola gushed throwing her hands in the air dramatically.

"Stop it!" I whispered when it started to attract attention.

"I just think it's super adorable!" She grinned.

"I couldn't believe it myself, Lola, it's insane. It's like i can't breathe right until I see him. Colours are so much brighter when he's around. He's amazing." I was ranting finally able to tell someone how I was feeling. It felt good.

"Wow." Lola whispered staring at me with wonder in her eyes. "Have you told him how you feel?"

"No, I haven't."

"Why not?"

"I'm afraid he doesn't feel the same way. And that I'll mess everything up." I confessed. I don't know what I'd do if I told him then he rejected me.

"It seems to me that he does have feelings for you. I mean, he risked his life twice for you and he saved you from that evil genius, Damien Schwartz." Lola said.

"You think?" I frowned. I didn't want to believe it and get my hopes up only to have them crushed.

"Yeah I do. Guys dont do that for a girl they are not interested in."

"But there's the other girl, Gisele." I then told Lola about what happened at the party last night.

"Oh my god, he went after her?" She exclaimed. "Idiot!"

"That's the thing! I think he isn't interested in Gisele but it's things like this that make me think that there's more going on than i know!" I confided.

"And what's the 'deal' they were talking about?" She mused.

"I don't know." I muttered putting my head in my hands in frustration.

"I think you should ask him." Lola suggested.

"Oh, but I don't wanna seem needy and jealous. Which I am." I groaned.

"But if you don't ask, you are always going to be wondering and the not knowing will hurt you more. Tell him how you feel and he doesn't feel the same way, it's his loss but at least you get to move on." She said.

Tell him. That was a scary prospect but it definitely would make my decision to stay or to go easier. If he was having a secret affair with Gisele...i would kill that bitch! No I wouldn't. I guess I would just have to let go and move on. I sighed heavily. I don't think it would be possible for me to move on. In the few hours that I have been with Lola, my heart already ached from missing him.

"Hey." Lola reached over to squeeze my hand again. "It will be okay. If this guy doesn't see how awesome you are, he's an ass."

I sighed to gather myself together then gave Lola a therapeutic smile. "A gigantic ass." We laughed together.

"So your first kiss, huh?" Lola winked.

"Oh, shut up!" I blushed.

"Tell me, how was it?" She leaned in with a mischievous glint in her eye.

"Im not telling you anything." I insisted.

"Uuuuuu!" Lola gushed. "Must have been good."

"Im not saying a thing. Don't you have to be going back to school? It's almost lunch time." I reminded her as a way to distract her.

"Urgh yes I do." It worked! She glanced at her watch. "We should get going."

We left our booth and we left the ice cream shop and walked to my car. Getting into the car, I started driving back to the school.

"So are you going back to your house of magic today?"Lola asked.

I laughed. "Yeah I have to. I didn't tell Nana I was coming here so I don't want her to be worried."

"Aaaaand you want to see Mr Sexy McDreamy." She winked.

"Well, if I absolutely have to." We laughed.

"Im so happy you came though. I thought I might have had to come there and humiliate myself again."Lola said with a laugh.

"You got me in trouble with Gisele that day! Apparently the mansion belongs to her." I told her.

"What a bitch! Having a mansion to herself! " Lola spat in a disgusted tone and i laughed.

"Biggest bitch I know. If I'm not counting Amy. How could you be friends with her?" I was still bothered by the issue.

"Oh please I was just trying to get to you. I can't stand her." Lola said dismissively.

"So you won't continue being friends with her?" I asked.

"Nah. She uninvited me to her party. You should come and we can crash it together." She suggested getting that mischievous glint again.

I laughed. "That would be crazy!" I said catching on the mischief. "We have to do it!"

"Yaay! Okay so it's next week Saturday. Don't let me down." She pointed at me sternly.

"I'll be here. Can I bring other people?" I'd bring Ced. He'd love it.

"Oh my god yes!" Lola was almost jumping in her seat from excitement.

We were driving into the school now and our hearts sank when we saw the teacher on duty patrolling the parking lot.

"Damn it!" Lola cursed.

"Now where have you been, Lola?" He said with an evil smile. "Who's your friend?"

"He can't see me, Lola." I said looking down.

"Fine, I'll get off. Call me!" She said before she jumped out of the car.

"Oh come on, Mr Bailey." I heard Lola say before she closed the door. I revved the engine and made a U-turn out of the school.

I hope she won't get into too much trouble. Probably just detention.
