The clock struck midnight, and Aashnaâs house erupted in chaos. A loud bang on the main door followed by a chorus of excited voices had her parents jolting awake.
âChor! Chor aa gaye!â her father exclaimed, scrambling to find something to defend the house with.
Her mother, half-asleep, grabbed the rolling pin from the kitchen, ready to charge.
Meanwhile, outside, Advait, Sia, Manan, and the rest of their friends were laughing as they banged on the door, holding a cake and balloons.
When Aashnaâs father flung the door open with a panicked expression, ready to attack, Advait raised his hands. âUncle, calm down! Itâs just us.â
Her mother sighed in relief. âPagal ho kya?! Aise darwaza todoge toh kisiko bhi heart attack aa jayega!â (Are you all mad?! If you bang on the door like that, anyone would get a heart attack!)
Aashna, dressed in her pajamas, peeked from behind, her lips curving into a surprised smile. âTum log pagal ho kya?!â (Are you all crazy?!)
Sia grinned. âWe came to surprise the birthday girl, obviously!!â
They pulled her to the living room, placed the cake on the table, and sang an off-key, chaotic version of the birthday song. As she made a wish and blew out the candles, a flicker of disappointment crossed her face. Someone was missing. He was missing.
âDhruvin nahi aaya?â she asked quietly, trying to sound nonchalant.
Advait sighed. âAaji ne mana kar diya. Poor guy was whining like a kid, but she didnât let him leave.â
Aashnaâs lips pressed into a thin line. Aaji didnât let him come? She nodded, pushing aside the disappointment.
After hanging out for a while, eating cake, and laughing over stupid stories, everyone eventually left, leaving Aashna alone in her room.
She sat on her bed, staring at her phone, debating whether to call him. Just as she picked it up, a soft thud came from her balcony. Her heart lurched.
Who the hellâ?
Grabbing a kaathi (wooden stick), she tiptoed toward the balcony door, gripping the handle tightly. Taking a deep breath, she flung it open, ready to attackâ
Only to find Dhruvin standing there, grinning, a cupcake box in his hand.
Her eyes widened. âTu baavlat aahe ka?! What are you doing on the balcony?! And how did you even climb up?!"
Dhruvin chuckled, raising his hands in surrender. âSagla sangto, pan ek minute, let me in first!â (Iâll explain everything, but one minute, let me in first!)
She huffed but stepped aside, letting him enter. The moment he did, he pulled her into a tight hug, twirling her around.
âHappy Birthday, my baby⦠my babudi⦠my love⦠my sweetu⦠my Aashu.â
She smacked his arm. âSweetu chiiiiiii.â
Laughing, they settled on her bed, sharing the cupcake as Dhruvin stole kisses in between bites. One peck on the cheek, one on her jaw, another trailing down her neck.
She shivered. âDhruvinâ¦â
He hummed against her skin. âHmm?â
âAryan aa sakta hai.â (Aryan might come in.)
Dhruvin smirked. âHe wonât come. I bribed him to sleep in the hall. And your parents wonât disturb either.â
Aashna raised a brow, impressed. âAcha? Chal, let the birthday sex begin.â
What followed was unlike anything beforeâintense, fast, desperate. His lips worshiped her, his touch left her breathless, and with every thrust, he murmured sweet nothings into her ear.
âYouâre mine, Aashu.â
âI love you.â
âYouâre the best thing thatâs ever happened to me.â
By the time they collapsed together, sweat-slicked and panting, Aashna kissed his neck and collarbone, her favorite spot. He lazily ran his fingers down her spine, his lips pressing against her shoulder.
âAccha, matching tattoo banaye?â (Shall we get matching tattoos?) he asked, his voice husky.
Aashna turned her head slightly. âHmm, where?"
He smirked. âI want a book tattoo that resembles you..â
She smiled, pressing her lips to his collarbone. âYahan lo.â (Get it here.)
Dhruvinâs eyes darkened. âOh? Your favorite spot, huh?â
She rolled her eyes. âShut up, be serious.â
He chuckled, then ran a finger down her side. â.You should get a camera tattoo on the side of your back. Perfect match.â
Aashna laughed. âFine. Letâs do it.â
As sleep claimed them, the morning came too soon.
A loud knock on her door had Aashna shooting up in bed.
âAashna! Beta, uth ja, jaldi ready ho ja!â her momâs panicked voice rang out. (Aashna! Get up, hurry and get ready!)
Her eyes widened. Shit.
She turned to Dhruvin, who was equally startled. Without thinking, she kicked him off the bed. He hit the floor with a muffled groan.
âAailaâ¦â (Oh shitâ¦) he whispered, rubbing his elbow.
âUnder the bed! Jaldi!â (Under the bed! Quick!) she hissed, pushing him under just as she opened the door.
Her mother smiled. âHappy Birthday, beta! Ready ho ja, guests aayenge.â (Happy Birthday, sweetheart! Get ready, guests will be coming.)
Aashna nodded, trying to act normal. âHaan, mummy. Bas abhi uth rahi hoon.â (Yes, Mom. Iâm just getting up.)
The moment her mother left, Dhruvin crawled out from under the bed, dusting himself off. âNot the best morning welcome.â
Aashna giggled. âServes you right for sneaking in.â
He kissed her forehead. âHappy Birthday again. Be ready in the evening. I have plans for us.â
He moved to the balcony, climbing down carefully. Aashna watched him, her heart pounding, hoping her idiot wouldnât fall. When he reached the ground, he looked up, smirking.
A flying kiss. A rev of his bike. And then he was gone.
Aashna stood there, smiling like a fool, reliving every moment of last night.
