The morning after the confession was nothing short of chaos. Not the loud, overwhelming kind, but the kind that simmered just beneath the surfaceâheavy eye contact, suppressed smiles, and a whole lot of teasing.
Aashna woke up feeling like she was floating. Her mind replayed last night in flashesâthe way Dhruvin had looked at her, the warmth of his hands on her waist, the way his lips had claimed hers like she was the most precious thing in the world. She groaned, covering her face with her pillow. How was she supposed to act normal around him now?
But Dhruvin? Oh, he had no such concerns.
When Aashna finally made her way downstairs, he was already sprawled on the couch, looking completely at ease, sipping his chai. As if he hadnât completely turned her world upside down just hours ago. His dark eyes lifted the second she entered the room, a slow smirk curving on his lips.
"Subah ho gayi, madam?" (Finally awake, madam?) he teased.
She crossed her arms, giving him a glare to mask her flustered state. "Haan, toh? Koi problem?" (Yeah, so? Any problem?)
Dhruvin shook his head, his smirk widening. "Bilkul nahi. Bas soch raha tha ki raat ko toh bade bade promises ho rahe the...and now you canât even look me in the eye? " (Not at all. Just funny how last night you were making all these big promises, and now you canât even look me in the eye?)
Aashnaâs cheeks turned a violent shade of red. Manan, who had just walked in, narrowed his eyes. "Wait. Wait. Did I just walk into something juicy?"
Sia, who was right behind him, immediately perked up. "Dude, same energy. Somethingâs fishy. Aashna, kya chal raha hai?" (Aashna, whatâs going on?)
Aashna opened her mouth to deflect, but before she could, Dhruvin casually leaned back, stretching his arms behind his head. "Oh, kuch khaas nahi. Bas raat ko thodi confession-shonfession ho gayi thi." (Oh, nothing special. Just a little confession happened last night.)
Manan screamed.
"WHAT?! YOU DIDNâT CALL ME?!"
Sia gasped. "OH MY GOD. TUM DONO NEâ" (OH MY GOD. YOU TWOâ)
"Sia!" Aashna interrupted, slapping her arm.
"Main toh bas confirm kar rahi thi!" (I was just confirming!) Sia grinned.
Raj, who had joined in halfway, sighed dramatically. "Yaar, mujhe pehle se pata tha. Dekho, maine bola tha na? Hum sab ke pehle ho jaayega inka." (Man, I knew it. Didnât I say it? Theyâd get together before all of us.)
Aashna groaned, covering her face. "You guys are absolute idiots."
"Oh, we already know that." Manan wiggled his eyebrows. "But now itâs time for details."
Dhruvin, instead of helping her out, enjoyed her misery. He leaned closer, his voice a deliberate murmur. "Main bata doon?" (Should I tell them?)
Aashna kicked his shin under the table.
Dhruvin let out a chuckle, rubbing his leg. "Fine, fine. Main chhup ho jaata hoon. Par ek baat toh sach haiâkal raat best night thi." (Fine, fine. Iâll shut up. But one thingâs trueâlast night was the best night.)
Aashna threw a cushion at him, but her heart flipped. So, he had been thinking about it too.
Later in the day, after much teasing and chaos, Aashna found herself escaping the crowd, slipping onto the terrace to get some air. The sun was beginning to set, casting a golden hue over the sky. She let out a soft sigh, trying to gather her thoughts.
A warm presence appeared behind her, arms snaking around her waist.
Her breath hitched.
"Why did you run away here alone?" Dhruvin murmured against her hair.
She smiled, leaning back against him. "Bas⦠thodi shanti chahiye thi." (Just⦠needed a little peace.)
"Shanti?" He chuckled. "Aur mujhe bula liya? Wrong choice, Aashu." (And you called me? Wrong choice, Aashu.)
She turned in his arms, her eyes meeting his. "Maine kab bulaya?" (When did I call you?)
Dhruvin grinned, tapping his chest. "My heart heard it."
She rolled her eyes, but her lips twitched into a smile. "Filmy ho rahe ho." (Youâre getting filmy.)
"Only for you."
For a moment, they just stood there, the golden light casting shadows on their faces, the world quiet around them. Then, Dhruvin reached out, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"I canât believe youâre mine," he admitted softly.
Her fingers brushed against his braceletâthe one she had given him the night before. "I always was, Dhruv," she whispered.
His breath hitched. And then he was kissing her.
It was slow at first, almost hesitant, as if he was savoring the moment. But then, she curled her fingers in his shirt, pulling him closer, and something shifted. His hands gripped her waist, anchoring her to him as he deepened the kiss, his lips moving against hers with a passion that sent shivers down her spine.
She felt his heartbeat against her chestâfast, erratic, matching her own.
A small moan escaped her lips, and he groaned in response, tilting his head to kiss her deeper. His fingers skimmed her back, sending fire through her veins.
When they finally pulled apart, both breathless, foreheads touching, Dhruvin let out a husky chuckle.
"Soch liya?" (Have you thought about it?)
Aashna blinked at him, still dazed. "Kya?" (What?)
"That youâre officially my baby now or not??"
She pretended to think, a teasing smile forming. "Hmmm⦠abhi toh sirf ek kiss hui hai. Aur sochna padega." (Hmmm⦠weâve only had one kiss. I still need to think about it.)
Dhruvin groaned. "Youâll kill me, Aashu."
She only winked, slipping out of his grasp. "Acha chalo, everyone must be waiting."
Dhruvin watched her go, shaking his head.
"Pagal ladki," (Crazy girl) he muttered, but he was smiling like a fool.
And he didnât even care.
