I'll let you guys know exactly which chapter is the end but hopefully, you guys have been happy with the wild rollercoaster I've put you on.
----------
Light raindrops hit the window as we packed our bags. The rain was a perfect tribute to today as it was time to leave New York. I was heartbroken to say goodbye. I saw everything I wanted to see, did everything I wanted to do, and had the most spectacular birthday possible, but I felt like it wasn't enough. We escaped reality in New York. There's no telling what awaits me back in Milian.
We were packed and checked out the penthouse before noon. We stopped to grabbed breakfast before heading to the airport. Of course, Dominic cancelled all of our flights back and ordered us the private jet we took when we arrived in New York, another incredibly sweet gesture.
There was an odd silence on the ride to the airport after breakfast. No one wanted to speak. Everyone had some worry in their minds occupying their time. Juliana had Damon and his antics to deal with, Bambina was sad to leave her new boy toy in New York, and I know Dominic is concerned about us going our separate ways. I couldn't deny that I am afraid too. We lived in a beautiful bliss bubble for the last few days. We were madly in love in New York. To re-enter reality; we can be letting in all of our old problems again. I closed my eyes and took in a long calming breath. No more letting possibilities control my future. If we want this to work, we will make it work.
I sat beside Dominic at the front of the plane while Juliana and Bambina sat at the back.
"Thank you for flying us home."
"No problem."
"Are we going to talk about how we are going to do this?"
"Not right now."
If not, now, when?
I didn't push Dominic further. I sat back in the comfortable reclining seat and enjoyed the flight.
When my eyes reopened, the sun was gone and replaced with dark, clear skies. The pilot had already docked the plane and was chatting with the stewardess on the private tarmac. I looked out the window to see two cars waiting for us with some of Dominic's guards. Dominic grabbed my hand and led me off the plane; Juliana and Bambina followed.
Once we got to the cars, Dominic chatted with the guards and allowed them to fetch our luggage off the plane. All the girls' luggage was placed in one car, and Dominic had some guards drive them home separately. I gave each of them a kiss and thanked them for the fantastic trip. We waited until their cars pulled away before entering our own. I've grown tired and restless of the quietness. There are pressing matters to discuss, and we're both avoiding the situation.
"Dominic, we need to talk about this. We can't ignore the topic any longer. We're home; the trip is over. Reality is setting in." I spoke.
"I know."
"So... What are we going to do? Why are you still here? Isn't the plane going to take you Genoa?"
"Not yet."
"I need more than that, Dominic."
"I made plans to come to see you next weekend. The thought of spending a week away from you seemed too much to bear, so I made arrangements to stay in tonight until next weekend." Dominic confessed.
I gawked at him with wide shocking eyes. This crazy man of mine! I'm not surprised he planned to stay in Milian when we got back. There was a part of me hoping he will. I wasn't ready to say goodbye yet, and it's only fair for us to try living together in the real world.
"Where are you staying?"
"I was hoping to stay with you." He smiled.
"Of course...god, I wish you would have told me earlier. My place is a mess." I laughed.
The driver dropped us off at my family's summer home. There was a weird feeling resonating inside me. Dominic seemed so out of place when we arrived home. He lives in estates that take up half a country; a suburban summer home doesn't seem like his speed. Dominic didn't say a word when I showed him around. The moment he saw the master bedroom, he set his carryon down and plopped himself on the bed. Excusing myself from the room, I entered the bathroom to get ready for bed. When I returned, Dominic sat proudly in only his boxers, his clothes folded nicely and placed on the far dresser. He was occupied with the remote, mindlessly flipping through channels until he settled on a movie.
I walked around the bed to the side I slept on while in New York, the Right side closest to the window. Dominic waited until I was under the covers before lowering the volume and crawling inside the bodies with me. Instantly he drew me into his side and allowed me to get comfortable. My head laid on his bare chest, and our legs got tangled together. We watched the movie in silence.
A loud alarm rang through the room. My hands searched endlessly around the nightstand while my eyes remained closed. My hand came to contact with my phone. I opened one eye to see who it was that was calling at 6 in the morning.
It is my mother.
I turned to look at Dominic. He laid beside me with no idea that trouble was ringing down my phone. I haven't answered any of her calls during the trip, and after a while, she stopped calling me. If she's calling me now, that means she knows I'm back, and Mama is demanding answers.
"Hello," I answered quietly.
"YOU MUST BE KIDDING ME! DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW WORRIED YOU MADE ME?" Mama screamed over the receiver.
"Mama, please, it's 6 am. Can't we do this later?"
"You had the opportunity to do this earlier when I first called you. Where the hell have you been? You have some major explaining to do!"
"I know, Mama, and I'm sorry. I wanted to enjoy my birthday, and there was so much to explain. Later today, I'll come by and explain everything."
"Be here by 6." She hung up immediately.
A loud sigh couldn't help but escape my lips before chucking the phone on my nightstand. I crawled back into the covers and curled up beside Dominic. Subconsciously he grabbed my waist and pulled me in closer until his head could rest in between my neck.
Feather like kisses on my neck made my eyes flutter open. Dominic was up alert and incredibly handsy this morning. As he kissed and suckled on my neck, his hands roamed slowly all over my body. A girl can get used to this.
"Good morning." I moaned softly as his teeth nipped my neck.
"Hmmm," He moaned softly. Dominic gave my neck one final suck before releasing me. He hovered over me, his close face mine. He leaned in for a kiss, and I accepted graciously.
"What time is it?" I said through the kiss. Dominic smirked before pulling away. He rolled over to his side of the bed and pulled out his phone from inside the nightstand.
"10 am."
"Good, my mother woke me up early this morning."
"Your mother?" He questioned.
"Yeah, she called me. I'm not sure how she knows we got back, but she knows now. I have to go over there tonight to explain myself."
"She's not a fan of me, I presume."
"You presume, right." I sighed loudly.
"Another person to add to the list," Dominic grumbled as he sat up on my bed.
"It can't be a surprise that you got a list of enemies. Don't worry, I'll explain everything. She can't be mad forever."
"We'll explain; together."
I smiled at Dominic and gave him a kiss before rolling off the bed. I left Dominic alone to get ready for the day. When I got out, I heard the shower running in the guest bathroom across the hall. That was a sign for me to get breakfast ready. There wasn't a lot in my fridge, so I ended up making french toast with fruits.
Dominic joined me downstairs after he was freshly showered, shaved and dressed in dark jeans and a long-sleeve black cashmere deep v sweater. He sat at the dining table and waited patiently to be served. I handed him his plate with a cup of orange juice and sat beside him. We ate in blissful silence.
"Are you going back to work today?" Dominic asked as he collected the finished plates. He took them back to the kitchen and began to wash them.
"No, I go back tomorrow."
"Hmm, what shall we do today?"
"I do need to go grocery shopping, but before that, we can go out, maybe watch a movie?"
"Okay, I'm all yours." Dominic grinned.
--
After we cleaned up breakfast, we spend the rest of the afternoon outside. We went for a long drive around Milian; I showed Dominic all the hotspots I would hang out when I was younger. We even checked out some vacant land for sale since Dominic is in the market to find a place for another vacation home. After we had lunch at a bistro before heading to the stores to buy groceries. We dropped the groceries back at the house before heading to my mother's house. I wanted Dominic to stay home, but he was adamant about being with me when I talked to my mother. He even stopped for a large bouquet of flowers to soften the blows we're about to receive.
Mama was waiting at the bay windows when we pulled up. The moment she saw Dominic, her eyes widen, and she rushed away from the window. As we parked in the driveway, I noticed that my father's car was missing; of course, he wouldn't be here. I haven't seen him since I got back from Genoa; why would I see him now.
The front door was unlocked when we walked inside. We followed the smell of garlic and rosemary all the way to the dining room where my mother and brother sat quietly. They showed no fear or emotion when we entered the room. I sat down first and observed as Dominic placed the flowers in front of my mother before sitting beside me. He never showed emotion, but I knew he was nervous from the tight grip of his hand in mine.
"Mama Roberto. Thank you for your birthday wishes." I spoke up.
"What the hell, Ally?" Roberto sighed loudly.
"I know this must be shocking to you, so let me explain."
"Please explain." Mama gritted out.
"I couldn't continue to live in Milian and ignore the mess we've made in Genoa. Mama, you told me to call him and figure things out, so our mistakes don't mess up our future, and I did. After I got him, I realized that even though the situation was out of my control, the fighting didn't make it any better. So I flew to Genoa to fix things...really improve things. We both decided to start new, and I invited Dominic to New York. There was no trampling, no forcing or coercing. We had a fantastic time, and Dominic has decided to stay in Milian for a little bit before he goes back to Genoa."
"You're telling me my words sparked this?" Mama shrieked.
"Yes, you told me to call him and figure things out. You made me realize I can't hide here forever. We needed to make a decision, and this is what we decided."
"So what, you going back to Genoa?" Roberto questioned.
"Eventually, but not right now. When I feel ready, I'll move back. I promise we are doing things right this time."
"What are you doing that is right, Mr. Vincenzo?"
"Mrs. Montrelli, I want to apologize. I treated your family and your daughter with no honour. I treated Alessandra as property. It took her, leaving me to realize what I've lost. I went down an immoral path, and I wanted to let Alessandra go. I wanted to disappear for her to be truly content. When Alessandra came down to Genoa, she showed me that she's willing to try one final time despite all the idiotic things I've done. I will fight every day to show her that she did not waste her time coming to Genoa. I will eternally be grateful that Alessandra fought us when I have given up. I will become the man she deserves because she is the woman who is beyond what I deserve in life." Dominic announced.
There was a burning silence that fell after Dominic's heartwarming words. He's sorry; I know that if he could go back and change anything in his past, he would change how we got together. I can't blame him for being locked up in my room for years; that was a decision made before he knew of me. I can't blame Dominic for being angry that his bachelor days are over because some dusty old ancestors made plans that affected our future. I can only judge his current actions. In Genoa, he showed me that he was hopeful but fearful; Dominic showed me in new york that he was happy and ready to fight. Now, Dominic is showing me that he will stand by me through anything, and that's all I want from my future husband.
"You caused this family so much pain. Do you understand how hard it is to hear that your daughter flew in the middle of the night back to the place where she was miserable? Back to the man who caused nothing but pain? Then she leaves for days on hand without answering her phone. To top it off, she comes back home with the same beast of a man? How do you expect me to be okay?" Mama cried out.
"I don't expect you to be okay with anything or for you to accept me and forgive me. I can't demand anything from anyone in this family. All I ask is you judge me for my current and future actions."
"You're happy, like seriously happy Ally?" Roberto questioned.
"I am."
"If your happy, then okay, I can give the guy a break." Roberto agreed.
"Mama?" I wondered.
Mama closed her eyes and whispered to herself. She took a few moments before she reopened her eyes and looked at me. I know it's is hard for her, and this is the second time I'm asking her to forget the past. I want her to trust me and my decisions.
"I still have to talk to your father about this, but... I won't give you any more grief. You know what will happen if you hurt my baby again." Mama consented.
I smiled at mama before springing up from my seat and giving her a hug.
Now to deal with Dominic's parents.
