Chapter 2373: Set Up the Household Register

“Shut up!” Xu Ba said angrily. If Qiao Mei said she would do something, it would definitely be done. She would not joke about such things.

“I’m your biological daughter! Father!” Xu Jin roared back angrily. For so many days, she had never addressed Xu Ba as “Father”. Now, she called him “Father” so as to make him feel guilty.

The word “biological” seemed to bind Xu Ba like shackles. He looked at Xu Jin, momentarily lost for words.

Qiao Mei looked at Cai Ming and Xu Jin appreciatively. These two women were both quite smart. Xu Jin had definitely inherited Cai Ming’s intelligence.

“Don’t worry, I always keep my word. If it can’t be done for whatever reason, Uncle Xu can always come back to do it himself. I’m fairly well-known in the capital and I won’t damage my own reputation over something like a household register. I don’t do things that don’t give me any returns,” Qiao Mei said.

There was a loud announcement about the trains departing in 10 minutes’ time and that passengers whose tickets were not checked yet should get it done quickly or they would run out of time. Xu Ba picked up Li Gui’s luggage and was about to walk into the train station when he suddenly thought of something and hurriedly ran over to Qiao Mei.

“I had wanted to make the arrangements for their accommodation before leaving, but now…” Xu Ba looked at Li Gui and her children in the distance and said pleadingly to Qiao Mei, “Can you help me one more time?”

Xu Ba had thought that Qiao Mei would reject him and did not expect Qiao Mei to agree readily. She said mildly, “No problem.”

Xu Ba could finally feel at ease and immediately ran back to Li Gui’s side. Li Gui did not stop to wait for Xu Ba at all, but Li Qin was very smart. She walked slowly at the back of the group to allow Xu Ba to catch up with them.

Li Qin liked Xu Ba a lot. When she was younger, there were always people who called her names and said she was a bastard child without a father. Although she always smiled at Li Gui and said that she did not mind, she actually felt very sad inside. Xu Ba fitted her idea of the perfect father. She hoped that her mother would reconsider the entire issue seriously. After all, there were not many good men like him.

As the train departed the station, Qiao Mei looked at Cai Ming and Xu Jin without saying anything. As she smiled, her eyes were filled with kindness towards the mother-and-daughter duo, but the two of them did not trust her at all.

“Stop being so hypocritical! You have come to harm us to help your mother!” Cai Ming said angrily.

“So what if I am? Xu Ba has already left and you have no other relatives in the capital. You can only go along with my arrangements,” Qiao Mei said bluntly.

Given that her plan had failed, Cai Ming was so blinded by anger that she raised her hand to slap Qiao Mei. Xia Zhe immediately rushed to Qiao Mei’s side from the periphery and stopped Cai Ming from doing anything. As the two of them tussled, Cai Ming was flung onto the floor. She was in so much pain that she could see stars.

“He hit me! He hit me! The Xia family is bullying us! Is there anyone here! Help!” Cai Ming crouched over the floor and cried out. Xu Jin also knelt on the ground and yelled along.

Qiao Mei immediately held her stomach and cried out. This action scared Xia Zhe so much that he quickly held on to her and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“My… my stomach hurts…” Qiao Mei said as she secretly winked at Xia Zhe. He immediately understood that she was putting on an act.

“My mother didn’t touch her! It’s all an act!” Xu Jin said as she pointed at Qiao Mei.

“I’m pregnant… The pregnancy isn’t even stable yet! You had obviously wanted to hit me and my husband pushed you away to protect me. How can you hit me when you know that I’m pregnant!” Qiao Mei said weakly.

The people in the crowd who had wanted to stand up for the mother-and-daughter duo immediately turned around to condemn them now. Everyone felt that it was their fault instead.

“But you just said that you wanted to harm us!” Xu Jin said.

“I was just joking with you. How can I really do something like that! Can’t you even take a joke? You’re bullies! You actually want to kill me and my baby!” Qiao Mei said as she held her stomach and pretended to look frightened.

“Who knows that you’re pregnant when you’re not even showing yet. We still don’t know if it’s true!” Cai Ming said.

Qiao Mei did not want to waste any more time with them. She looked at Cai Ming and her daughter and whispered, “We can go and get the register done now. Do you want to come with me or not?”

“We’ll go!” Cai Ming immediately said.

Qiao Mei looked at the jeep parked in the distance and suddenly felt some heartache. She felt upset at the thought of the mother-and-daughter duo sitting in her car. She decided to get Da Zhuang to wash the jeep thoroughly later.

Cai Ming and her daughter were quite lacking in experience. They had only ever taken a bus before. As for such a nice car, they had only ever seen it on the road and never sat in one before. Therefore, the moment the two of them entered the car, they started to touch everything in front of them.

“Don’t touch anything! If anything goes missing, it’s all on you!” Qiao Mei said sulkily.
