Chapter 2

Fox 2

Le Renard

"This is where the masses are poisoned." I gestured to the cafeteria that laid before us. All the obnoxious laughter and pointless conversation that flowed through this place tended to give me a headache as it all bombarded me at once. Levi seemed to think the same as he dug his sharp little claws into my pants legs as he climbed up to hide inside my hoodie.

"Sorry, I'll call him out if that bothers you. It's just that loud noises tend to aggrivate him." Alistair explained.

"It's fine, I know how he feels." I sighed as we stept further into the cafeteria. Students pushed past us trying to get to the line and others rushed to tables filled with their friends.

"So where do you sit?" He asked scanning the area.

"Um...I don't eat lunch in here."

"Where do you eat at then?" He asked curious as his little pet scurried underneath my hoodie.

"I sit behind the school on the bleachers. It's quiet out there and not too many people harass me over there."

"Harass you?"

"Yeah..." I just drifted off as I stood in line to grab some sandwich or something.

"Are you going to expound on that yeah?" He asked jabbing me in the back with his finger.

"Not really. You'll find out what that means soon enough." I groaned seeing Ryan and his friends eyeing me. They wouldn't do anything now so I wasn't worried but I didn't want Alistair getting hurt because of me.

The rest of our wait in the lunch line was quiet minus the strange sound coming from inside my hoodie. Between Alistair and Levi I was beginning to actually enjoy having someone around. After paying for both of our lunches I lead him out to the bleachers. As we climbed each step the wind swirled around us soothing me.

"So this is where you eat?" Alistair asked as we sat down on the top step.

"Yeah. I know its kind of boring but this is where I eat." I told him gesturing to the empty bleachers.

"No...I like it." He mused as he looked around.

"Really?" I laughed.

"Yeah, it's nice and open and like you said it's quiet."

"And I think that Levi likes it here." I commented as the fox crawled out of my hoodie and made his way down the bleachers to the field. I watched as he skitted off towards the surrounding forest. Looking over at Alistair and then back at the forest I waited for him to say something about the fox running away.

"Oh...Don't worry about him he's probably running back home." He told me as he bit into the hamburger that I had gotten him.

"So tell me about yourself." I wanted to know more about him.

"Um...What do you want to know?" He asked taking a break from the lunch.

"Where'd you come from?"

"You wouldn't have heard of the place." He mumbled as he took another bite of the hamburger.

"Alright. How old are you?"

"I'm eighteen." He told me as he set the burger aside.

"Same. So what about family?" I asked.

"What about them?"

"Do you have any siblings? Do you still have both your parents? Stuff like that."

"Well-" The bell rung from inside the building cutting him off. "Seems like we should go back inside." He whispered as he blatantly ignored my question to make his way down the bleachers. There was no sign of Levi as I descended the steps after him.

Obviously he didn't want to talk about his family so I wouldn't pry. Everyone had their secrets and I certaintly wasn't one to judge. We walked back inside the building talking about pointless things like our favorite foods, what sports we like to watch, things like that. We shared each class and unfortunately for Alistair in each class he had to introduce himself.

I laughed at the pained look on his face everytime the teacher asked him to tell the class about himself. Just as Alistair said Levi never came back, he simply disappeared for the rest of the day. The more Alistair stayed around me the more I realized that I truly enjoyed his company. It was if I had known him for forever.

With the final bell sounding I let out a sigh of relief as we both got up and packed away our things. Flinging my bag over my shoulder I pulled my hood up and over my head as I walked out the classroom with Alistair trailing behind me.

"So do you walk home?" I asked him as we neared the doors leading out of the school. He struggled to keep up with me as the rest of the students pushed past him to get home.

"No. Someone picks me up and drops me off everyday." He told me as he finally pushed his way out of the school.

"Okay. I gues this is goodbye then, I'll see you tomorrow right?"

"Yea-" He started to answer before he was cut off by more incessant barking.

"Looks like the fag got a new play toy." Ryan called out causing a lot of people in the vicintiy to focus on us.

"Is that the only word you know?" I replied. A few snickers went up through the crowd at the look on his face. He scrunched up his fists as he and his friends approached us. Intinctually I grabbed Alistair's hand and pulled him behind me, shielding him from the group of boys that had stopped in front of us.

"How cute protecting your new fuck buddy?" Ryan sneered.

"Leave him out of this." I gritted out as my eyes flicked from one of his friends to the next and then back to Ryan. They were going to do something stupid and I'd probably end up getting in trouble for it. Like before Ryan's movements began to slow down as I watched everything happen before me. His fists clenched and his eyes shot to the side to look at his friend.

Right as he was about to pounce something else shifted in the corner of my eye. In a second a tall man with bright red, almost orange hair was standing in front of us. He stood about 6'5 with all his weight resting on one foot. The black vest that he wore over a white shirt and black pants were fitted against his body perfectly. One arm rested on his hips as the other one hung by his side.

His back was towards us but the power that was flowing through him rolled of him in waves. Ryan and his group flinched back at the new comer and from behind me I could here a sigh of relief coming from Alistair. Turning around I could see the relief in his eyes.

"Do you know him?" I asked.

"Yeah that's Levi..." He replied before he slapped a hand over his mouth.

"Like the fox?"

"Yeah, I named the fox after him." He answered quickly.

"Oh. So who is he?" I asked turning back around to look at the scene that was unfolding in front of me. Ryan and his gang were closing in on the three of us. Levi didn't even seem to care as he spun around to smile at us.

He was stunning to say the least. His red hair fell into his face dramatically covering one of his eyes. What really stood out about him was his golden eyes that stared down at me. Those were the same eyes I had been staring at in the mirror for years now. Those eyes matched mine exactly.

"Are you alright Alistair." His smooth voice purred as his eyes shifted from me to Alistair.

"Don't worry Levi I'm fine." Alistair assured him.

"Should I take care of this for you?" He asked calmly.

"If they do anything you can handle it." Alistair told him.

"Alright." He replied and did a half bow. Weird.

"What the fuck are you fags whispering about there?" Ryan shouted angrily.

"I'd appreciate it if you didn't talk to Alistair like that." Levi replied curtly.

"Why? What are you going to do about it?" One of his friends laughed as he nudged a boy close to him in the side.

"This." His voice turned deadly and in a second he was gone only to appear in front of the boy seconds later. The boy flinched back and almost tripped over his own two feet until Levi grabbed him by the back of the neck holding him in place.

"When I tell you not to do something I would appreciate it if you'd listen." He growled out.

"He-hey! J-Just let me go al-already!" The guy whimpered. At the sound of his pleading Levi turned around to get approval from Alistair who simply nodded his head once before Levi released the guy. With a thud he dropped to the ground and all the rest of Ryan's friends moved away from our small little group.

"Are you ready to go now?" Levi asked as he turned around to us. Alistair nodded his head and began to walk away with Levi now following him. I stood there dumbfounded by the entire situation.

"Tae?" A voice called out.

"Hmm?" I hummed.

"Do you need a ride home?" Looking up I realized that Levi was bent at the waist staring me in the eyes. His golden eyes stared back at me and for an instant I wanted to take out my contacts and be as proud of his eyes as he was.

"I usually walk..."

"Nonsense! We'll drive you home!" He exclaimed happily as he raced behind me pushing me in the direction that Alistair just disappeared in.

"Thanks?" I muttered as he continued to push  me.

"No problem!" He replied cheerfully.

We stopped in front of the same black Porsche that had driven past me this morning. I spun around coming face to face with the smiling Levi. He motioned for me to climb into the car alongside Alistair.

"You're the one who was driving all creepily next to me." I accused.

"We weren't driving creepily." Levi replied with a frown.

"Really? I could have sworn that driving incredibly slow next to someone then speeding up and driving off suspiciously counts as driving creepily." I replied.

"Fine. Then we were driving creepily now get in the car."

"Whatever." I mumbled as Alistair got out the car and pushed me in. He then climbed back in sitting on my lap and in seconds I was flushed and trying desperately to escape.

"What's wrong?" Came Levi's teasing voice.

"No-Nothing." I stuttered as Alistair relaxed against me.

The feeling of this smaller boy sitting in my lap was driving me insane. It's been a while since I felt like this about someone and here he was having me feel like this all in one day.

"So where do you live?" Levi asked me still smirking from my obvious discomfort. After giving him the directions he peeled out of the school parking lot narrowly avoiding a few of the students in the process. We sped down the road heading back to my empty house.

Neither of my parents would be there. It was actually a surprise that they were both there this morning but I knew better than to even think that they would be there when I got home. In fact I probably wouldn't see either of them for a few days, knowing them.

As Levi turned into my driveway I almost laughed at how predictable they were. Like I had said, they were gone. It was fine by me though because I wouldn't have to hear them complain about my new image and how I had changed so much.

"This is your house?" Alistair asked quietly.

"Yeah..."I muttered as the car turned off. Levi hopped out the car and ran to our side opening the door and bowing like a proper gentleman. Alistair laughed as he climbed off my lap allowing me to get out. I straightened myself up and climbed out the car.

"Nice place." Levi muttered as they both looked over it.

"Thanks."

"It looks like no one's here though." Alistair commented. I was hoping that neither of them would take notice. There were no cars in the driveway and thanks to my mother's OCD nature the house looked pristine and like it had never been lived in. All we were missing was the big 'For Sale' sign on the front lawn and this would resemble a model home.

"Yeah my mom likes things to be...neat, even when she's not here." I laughed thinking about all the times she had somehow sensed that I had messed up something. There had been plenty of times I would get a call from her complaining about how she knew I had did something wrong in the house.

"So no one's home?" Levi asked.

"Nope. Just me and the cookies in the pantry." I muttered.

"Can we stay?" Levi asked happily.

His crazy mood swings were weird but entertaining. One minute he's like a loyal butler, the next he's some master of fighting with a serious personality and then he's like a little kid all hyper and excited. I just didn't know what to make of him. It was then that I realized Alistair never answered my question. Who was Levi to him?

"I don't know Levi. Tae's probably annoyed with me already since he had to spend all day with me." Alistair told the tall man who was staring down at him hopefully.

"You guys can come in if you want." I told them laughing at the look of complete and utter joy on Levi's face. He bounced around on the balls of his feet as he looked  back at Alistair, I guess for his approval.

"I guess we'll be staying." Alistair grinned.

Walking up the steps I pulled out my key and unlocked the door and stepped in. On the table right at the door was a note from my parents. I picked it up, folded it and put it in my pocket to read later. Holding the door open I motioned for the two of them to come in.

Levi and Alistair both stared in awe at the inside of my house. Everything from the marble floors to the crystal chandeliers looked perfect and nothing was ever out of place. To me it felt fake. I would love to just live in a normal house with normal parents but we can't all be that lucky.

"Come on let's go to my room." I told them as I closed the door behind us and went towards the stairs. They followed behind me in silence as I led them to my room. Once there I threw the door open and then grimaced at how messy it was. This was the only room in the house that my mother had never been able to keep clean.

"Sorry about the mess." I grumbled as I leaned down to snatch up the closest piece of clothing that I had thrown down. I walked around my room picking up  various things until it looked presentable enough for my guests.

"You think this is a mess? You should see Levi's room..." Alistair laughed as he sat down on my rolling desk chair as I sat down on the bed. Levi plopped down on the floor with a frown on his face as he replied to Alistair's comment.

"My room isn't that bed."

"Don't listen to him. He never puts anything away..."

Hearing them talk reminded me that my question hadn't been answered yet. They were awfully close and they sure didn't look or act like brothers. At first I thought that Levi was his butler or bodyguard or something like that. But watching them now they seem like the best of friends.

"So how do you two know each other?" I asked them and everything got real serious but after a few seconds of silence Levi answered.

"Well I work for Alistair but he treats me more like family than a employee." Levi explained with a soft smile on his lips.

"What do you mean you work for him?" I asked.

"I just do the odd job for him. Whatever he needs I take care of." He explained vaguely meaning he didn't want to get into specifics.

"Alright, so next question. Why-" I started but was interrupted by Levi.

"Are we playing twenty questions?" Levi cheered.

"I guess." I replied staring at him quizzically.

"Well then I think it's our turn." He told me firmly.

"Fine." I pouted. I really just wanted to ask them a whole bunch of questions.

"Alistair you can ask the first question, then me and then Tae you're last." Levi instructed.

Leaning back on the bed I crossed my arms behind my head and rested on the pillow as I waited for the questions. Alistair looked like he was deep in thought as he looked up at the ceiling while Levi was on the floor with a large smile on his face as he stared at me.

"Okay...Do you have any weird or special talents?" Alistair finally asked.

As soon as the question left his mouth my mind instantly went to all the new things I've been able to do but I couldn't very well show him that I could heal instantly or that I could hear and see far better than the average human. The only thing that I could really show him was my ability to control certain objects.

I tried to reason with myself but it wasn't working. For whatever reason I didn't think that either one of them would have a problem with my wonderfully amazing talent. With that logic I turned around and looked in my room for something to use as a prop.

"Alright...Give me a second." I replied jumping up from the bed and digging into my bag.

I lifted my phone into the air between my thumb and forefinger so that they both saw it. Gesturing to the phone with my other hand I watched them nod their heads assuring me that they saw and knew what it was. I laid it down flat in my hand and with a bit of concentration I was ready to show them,

Slowly my hand fell away from the phone until it was floating midair with my hand about a foot underneath it. When I was sure that it wasn't going to fall anytime soon I shoved both my hands in my pocket as I twirled the phone around.

"Wow..." Levi whispered.

Luckily enough for me they were taking this pretty well. Neither one of them have ran out of here screaming yet so that was encouraging. Both Levi and Alistair were sitting there staring at me and the phone with such awe that I actually started to feel self-conscious. After a few more seconds I allowed my phone to drop down onto the bed.

"So that was my talent." I told them.

"That was...interesting." Alistair grinned before looking over at Levi. With a singular nod Levi stood up from off the ground with a sexy smirk before turning to me to speak.

"Want to see my talent?" He asked.

"Um...Sure?" I was kind of confused about what was going on. If someone had just shown me what I just showed the both of them I would be asking a million and five questions.

Turning my attention back to Levi my eyes popped open as he grabbed the hem of his shirt and began to pull it over his head. My mind went blank as I stared at the chiseled features of his body. Alistair's chuckle stopped me from eye raping Levi even more. Blushing slightly I turned away from him for a second as he continued to strip all the way down to his boxers.

"Alright. Watch." He instructed me. Turning back to face him I was about to make some sly comment about what his talent would be that he had to strip but when his body began to morph into  a smaller form my jaw pretty much hit the floor.

A small lump formed in the pair of boxers that had fallen to the floor as he morphed and it began to move frantically. Seconds later the head of a red fox popped out from the leg of the boxers. There peeking out at me was Levi, the fox.

"What. The. Hell." I muttered.

"I may have lied before. I didn't name my fox after Levi. Levi is my fox." Alistair explained.

"What the...But...How?" Was all I could muster.

"Tae, both you and Levi are kitsunes." He explained.

"What does that mean?" I asked him.

"A kitsune is basically a fox spirit that assists magical beings such as myself. I'm guessing that along with the ability to levitate objects that isn't your natural eye color and I'm betting that you also have the ability to heal yourself."

I just stood there staring at him because I couldn't believe what he was telling me. Even with what he knew about me and watching Levi shift like that it was still hard to believe that I was some sort of kitsune or whatever.

"So I'm a fox?" I asked skeptically as I glanced at Levi scurrying around my room energetically.

"Yes. I guess you haven't learned how to shift yet which is understandable considering you didn't even know what you were. I'm sure that Levi can teach you how to do it all later."

"So you said you're a magical being, right? What did you mean by that?" I asked sitting down on the bed.

"I'm a witch."

"You're serious aren't you?" I asked with a humorless laugh.

"Very." He deadpanned.

"What does this mean for me?"

"For now it just means that you need to learn more about yourself and your abilities." He explained.

"For now?"

"Yeah, later on you'll have to come live with Levi and I so that we can do what we need to do." He explained vaguely.

"You mean leave home and live with you guys wherever it is that you live?" I asked with a shred of hope blossoming inside me.

"Yup" He replied popping the p as Levi climbed up onto the bed. He scurried over to me where he climbed up onto my lap where he laid down calmly. On instinct I reached down and ran my hand along his back smoothing down the hair that had fluffed up a little.

"So I'm a magical fox that will help you do whatever it is that you do on a daily basis?"

"Yeah and I need to create a bond between the three of us before another witch comes and tries to take you away. Not all of them are as considerate as me. Some would never explain what was happening to and would simply force a bond on you."

"Does a bond hurt?" I asked worriedly.

"If it's forced then it will." He explained grimly.

If I had to be bonded to anyone then I think it would be with these two. They got along easily with each other and not only that but they both were extremely kind to me from the beginning. I hadn't had a real conversation with anyone for a while and it was nice to be able to talk to someone and to have someone actually look after me for once.

My parents wouldn't really notice if I left or not considering they were rarely there but I would still have to come up for an excuse as to why I wasn't there to begin with. It was a lot to take in but with what my mind was actually able to process it all sounded good to me.

"When do we do this bonding thing?" I asked causing Levi to pop his head up in curiosity.

"What?" Alistair asked in disbelief.

"When do we start the bonding thing?" I asked again with a smile tugging at my lips.

"You want to do it already?" He asked skeptically.

"Yeah." I replied.

"I don't think anyone has ever agreed as quickly as you just did. Usually the kitsunes take a lot more time to think it over. Levi took almost a month before he agreed to come with me."

"Really?"

"Yeah. It took forever to even convince him that I was telling the truth." He explained.

"Well I can see that you're obviously telling the truth so there's no point in arguing it. I have no real reason to prolong this whole bonding thing because I feel like you two are actually pretty cool to be around and I feel like I could get used to being this kitsune thing." I grinned.

"Great! I guess we can start with you learning how to shift into a fox." He explained looking down at Levi who simply hopped off my lap.

A few seconds later Levi had shifted back into his human form and he was very naked. My cheeks instantly burned red as I stared at his naked body. For some reason I couldn't look away and both Alistair and Levi noticed.

"Well once you've gotten your fill of me I think we should get started." Levi laughed.
