Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook

Chapter 982:

? ? ? ? ?

Understanding her, Erick explained: "According to the ongoing police investigation, he does not appear to be linked to the Maxwell family, but probably to another organization. It's quite suspicious and I'm still investigating it. We have guards here, so there is nothing to worry about.”

Raegan scribbled on a piece of paper. "Was that person targeting me?"

Erick nodded in confirmation.

Indeed, the killer was not after Mitchel, nor was he associated with the Maxwell family, but his intention was unmistakably directed at Raegan. This was peculiar. The investigation continued.

Raegan fell into quiet contemplation. The pain in his heart resonated. Realizing that the killer was after her and that Mitchel had been injured while protecting her, her anguish deepened.

Silence reigned in the room.

Erick felt Raegan withdraw into a solemn, reflective state, filled with deep thoughts but reluctant to express them.

Afterwards, Raegan remained in bed for five full days to rest, fighting her feelings and the weight of recent events.

During this time, Raegan did not express herself to visit Mitchel.

Erick thought it was strange. He had anticipated that when she woke up, she would insist on seeing Mitchel immediately, regardless of his condition, before she could truly relax. However, he hadn't mentioned Mitchel at all. It wasn't like her.

Erick had prepared a series of strategies to dissuade her from visiting Mitchel immediately, but he did not find the need to deploy them.

It's not that Erick wanted to stop Raegan from visiting Mitchel.

It was just that his physical condition remained fragile, and the battle for Mitchel's recovery continued, with him unconscious day after day.

Even if she went, nothing would change, and there would be time in the future. There was no need to rush now. For now, Raegan's priority had to be resting well and eating well, nourishing the babies inside her.

Surprisingly, Raegan adhered to her dietary and medical regimen without needing persuasion from Erick, which alleviated one of her concerns.

She followed the doctor's recommendations diligently, focusing on resting and feeding the babies. It seemed like Mitchel didn't care.

But how could it be? Erick knew otherwise. Several times he heard Raegan crying in her sleep, screaming, "No, no..." That heartbreaking tone made him hurt just to hear it.

When she woke up, Raegan asked the nurse to change her tear-soaked pillow, hiding it from Erick.

Unsure of his intentions, Erick preferred to let it be, feigning ignorance. On one occasion, he subtly tested Raegan's feelings. "If Mitchel recovers, I won't be opposed to you being together..."

After all, Mitchel had risked his life to protect Raegan, a gesture that convinced Erick of his sincerity.

It was this very fact that made Erick feel that Mitchel truly cared about Raegan.

Additionally, the will Mitchel had drawn up before their fake wedding had been sent to Erick's office with updated terms more favorable to Raegan, ensuring her protection should anything happen to him.

Mitchel's wedding to Katie had been a farce, orchestrated to neutralize the threat Lorenzo posed to Raegan.

After learning the whole truth, Erick found himself without any reservations regarding Mitchel. Mitchel had kept all the commitments he had made to Raegan.

If Mitchel made a full recovery, Erick resolved not to stand in her way.
