At first, Erick prepared to leave with Janey. Seeing Raegan motionless, he quickly exited the vehicle and approached her. âRaegan.â
Raegan froze as if she hadn't heard anything. He had a cut on his hand and blood was falling to the ground.
Erick reached out and pulled Raegan closer and asked with concern, âWhen have you ever hurt your hand?â
Exhaustion washed over Raegan as she leaned into Erick's embrace, her voice shaking. «Erick, I'm very scared. "Mitchel doesn't seem to recognize me anymore."
Erick's heart tightened and he reassured her: "He's probably just worried about his mother. Don't worry too much."
Raegan nodded, but couldn't help the feeling of distance and unfamiliarity in Mitchel's eyes.
Erick's expression became thoughtful and he suggested, "Let's go to the hospital first."
When they arrived at the hospital, they found that Janey was perfectly fine and did not show any signs of distress.
Relieved, Raegan quickly headed to wait outside Luciana's ICU. When he arrived, he saw Mitchel standing there.
A sudden wave of shyness and longing washed over Raegan, making her hesitate before approaching Mitchel, her feet glued to the ground. After a moment of hesitation, he finally shouted, "Mitchel..."
Mitchel looked at her, his expression cold and distant.
Although it was still early autumn, Raegan felt a sudden chill. He wondered if it wasn't the norm in this part of the hospital, where the emergency room was.
Raegan looked at Mitchel with hopeful eyes. «Luciana will be fine. Don't worryâ¦"
"Enough," Mitchel replied sharply. Then he turned, keeping his gaze on the doors of the operating room.
The hope in Raegan's eyes instantly faded. His words left her perplexed. A strange wave of anxiety washed over her, but she steeled herself and stepped forward, reaching out to touch Mitchel's arm.
«Mitchel, are you okay? Youâ¦"
As soon as she spoke, he raised his arm and moved hers away.
Already weakened by exhaustion, Raegan staggered several steps, even though he had not pushed her hard.
Struggling to regain her balance, Raegan looked at his distant, indifferent face, and her first thought was whether he was suffering from amnesia. Maybe Mitchel had hit his head like her last time and forgotten everything.
Holding on to this hope, Raegan tried to reconnect in the warm, familiar way they used to talk. «Mitchel, don't you recognize me? Amâ¦"
When Raegan caught Mitchel's ambiguous gaze, she abruptly stopped talking. His gaze had a cold, almost mocking quality. Raegan didn't understand why he was looking at her like that.
With a slight curl of his thin lips, Mitchel said, âMiss Foster?â
His voice echoed in the cold, deserted hallway, making Raegan shiver.
Raegan's heart sank as if plummeting from a great height. If he hadn't forgotten everything, why did he speak to her with such coldness and distance? His voice trembled. âWhy are youâ¦?â
