«A crime? Interesting!" The voice treated his accusation as a joke.
"Do you really think you're going to come out of this and point the finger at me?"
"Who are you?" Raegan's voice was high-pitched and demanding.
The interlocutor acted shy. "Think of you as a failed project of my experiments that I would like to put an end to personally."
Mind racing, Raegan put the dots together. "Are you the one who tried to kill me five years ago, with the car accident?"
"Sharp as a tack!" the voice mocked. «It is a shame that you are going to meet your end soon. So much brain in a pretty package.
Frustration washed over Raegan. âKatie is behind this, right?â
«Last time, yes. This time he didn't call me," said the voice with contempt. "That's why his plan to take you down seemed so lame."
At this revelation, Raegan's mind reeled, unable to comprehend Katie's deep resentment toward her, given their limited exchanges at the time.
Katie had seemed innocuous in Raegan's presence, always a benign presence, yet all along, she was orchestrating Raegan's downfall from the shadows.
âAre you affiliated with the Maxwell family?â Raegan pressed.
"Curiosity can be dangerous." The voice oozed smugness as it continued: âEnjoy your last thirty minutes.â
The call ended abruptly, and Raegan's gaze fell on the dashboard, where a timer was ominously counting down.
With each tick, his fear increased.
Undecided whether the threat was real, Raegan hesitated to test its veracity.
Suddenly, a loud âthudâ was heard.
Lauren had broken one of the windows, showering Raegan with shards of glass.
A splinter hit Raegan's neck, causing a sharp sting.
Clinging to the wheel, Raegan struggled to maintain her composure as Lauren pounded on the sunroof, desperate to get inside.
With the limited movements she had left, Raegan held the steering wheel firmly and continued forward.
Suddenly, Lauren was through the window and her torso entered the car.
Her hand gripped Raegan's hair as she screamed, "There's nowhere to run, huh?"
The sudden jerk made Raegan stagger, and an urgent alarm echoed through the cabin.
«Lauren, let go of me. "There is a bomb in the car." Raegan shouted.
