Bryce didn't have the courage to resist Hector. And when they confronted him, he denied it.
«I have never said that. Héctor knows that I don't like reading. How could I ask him to bring me a book?
He turned his back on Hector and made a defiant face at Raegan.
âRaegan, you set me up.â
Despite Bryce's sudden change in attitude, Raegan remained calm and brandished her phone.
"I just recorded everything."
In an instant, Bryce's expression changed.
"Damn! You are so twisted. How could you deceive me?
"If you hadn't tried to frame me, how would I have the chance to do the same to you?" Raegan replied calmly.
Fuming, Bryce turned to Hector with pleading eyes and asked, âAre you doing it?â
Hector was silent for a minute and then said, âApologize to Raegan!â
Bryce's face darkened and deflated like a punctured balloon.
"No!" Bryce protested.
Hector looked him in the eye and asked, "Do you want to go back to Swynborough?"
Slowly, Bryce lowered his head and muttered a reluctant apology.
Knowing that Bryce had not realized his faults, Hector glared at Bryce and urged him to apologize more seriously to Raegan.
Bryce stole a glance at Raegan, not sure if she was laughing at him.
It was a great humiliation to face the music in front of Raegan without chasing it away.
Bryce had just celebrated his eighteenth birthday and considered himself a grown man.
And now, he was feeling outraged after Raegan was apologized for her prank.
With bloodshot eyes, he roared, "I haven't messed with any of you!"
And he went furious to his room.
Raegan was surprised by this turn of events. After all, Hector had once said that he had been wrong to raise Bryce to be such a spoiled child. She had assumed that Hector wouldn't be harsh on Bryce's bad behavior. She had to admit, however, that she had also felt the urge to discipline Bryce herself when Bryce was being unreasonable.
But that was none of his business.
After a moment of thought, Raegan said, "Hector, if there's nothing else, I'm leaving now."
Héctor immediately put on his coat and showed him the way.
«We are going in the same direction. Let's go together."
Raegan hesitated and racked her brain over how to decline Hector's offer.
After all, Hector was Bryce's father and also Mitchel's uncle. He preferred not to get too involved with him.
When he reached the door, Hector's flashy sports car was already accelerating. Upon seeing her, Héctor rolled down the window and looked at the clock, indicating that he was in a hurry.
"Go up."
Since it seemed like they were really going in the same direction, refusing now would seem contrived. So Raegan reluctantly got into the car.
The car only had two seats, so Raegan had no choice but to sit in the passenger seat. After fastening the seatbelt, the car started moving.
While they were at a red light, Hector asked out of the blue, "Can we talk about something?"
Raegan was taken aback and assumed the topic would be Bryce.
"Clear".
"What have you seen before?"
Hector's direct question caught Raegan off guard. She blushed, unsure how to respond.
His tone was even, as if he were just asking a mundane question.
Well, the studio was well lit, so she saw Hector's well-defined muscles, his abs andâ¦
Raegan saw it all!
It was undeniable that Héctor had an impressive physique and a greatâ¦
He couldn't admit it, could he? It would be too mortifying.
«I... I didn't see it well...»
As soon as he said these words, he realized that his words carried an undertone. It meant he had seen something.
Realizing this, Raegan hastily corrected herself: "I mean I didn't see anything."
Héctor was not convinced, but he had to resume walking because the traffic light had turned green.
Raegan's ears turned red with embarrassment. However, he remained calm and added: âDon't worry. "I'll stay alone in Bryce's room."
Hector, who was focused on the road, said flatly: "I don't have any women around me, but from time to time I need to satisfy my physiological needs."
Raegan was taken aback. He didn't have to say that, and she didn't want to hear his explanation.
Feeling somewhat uncomfortable, Raegan asked bluntly, "What are you trying to say?"
Hector took a moment and said calmly, âYou are Bryceâs teacher. "I don't want you to get the wrong idea."
Hearing this, Raegan met his gaze and assured him, âMr. Dixon, my job only concerns the students, not their parents. "You don't have to worry about that."
The distinction between students and their parents was crucial.
Raegan knew it well.
At that moment, Hector gripped the steering wheel tightly and continued: âBryce may be naughty, but he has a good character.
Please forgive him."
Raegan nodded.
"Don't worry. "I am committed to teaching him well."
"I would appreciate it if you would also pay attention to his personal development, not just academic."
"Of course. And I still haven't thanked you for what you did for my grandmother. "I will make sure Bryce receives the best education in return."
As they stopped at a red light, Hector looked at Raegan and, to her surprise, giggled.
«You are always so polite to me and keep your distance. "I thought you had forgotten about me."
«No, I remember what you did at the nursing home. âIt's something I'm truly grateful for,â Raegan replied seriously.
Héctor acknowledged his gratitude, but diverted the topic elsewhere.
"There is no need for so much formality."
"That?" Raegan exclaimed in surprise.
On second thought, he realized it made sense. Perhaps his excessive formality made him feel strange.
Héctor gave him a quick glance and then added: "And about you and Mitchel..."
At the sound of Mitchel's name, Raegan felt a sudden jolt.
"I have nothing to do with him," he said.
Seeing her reaction, Héctor sensed her unresolved feelings towards Mitchel.
"I never said there was anything."
The rest of the trip passed in silence.
Raegan gazed at the stars. The moonlight illuminated half of her face in a pearly glow, giving her an ethereal appearance.
Héctor caught a glimpse of her and, for a moment, thought he was looking at a painting.
The sight of her face awakened uncomfortable memories in him that made him look away.
Upon reaching their destination, Raegan got out of the car and thanked Hector. I didn't want to bother anymore.
A moment later, he realized that Hector was still there, watching something from a distance.
Curious, she followed his gaze and gasped at what she saw.
Up ahead, a black Maybach was stopped at the community intersection. He had the lights off and looked like a sleeping beast.
Mitchel leaned against the car. He had his legs stretched out and a cigarette between his fingers.
When Raegan left, he stood up and approached her. He was wearing an elegant gray suit.
Raegan's heart skipped a beat. Although he hadn't done anything wrong, for some reason he felt a pang of guilt.
In the dim light of the night, Mitchel's face seemed ghostly as he approached her.
Not only that, his height and presence were also imposing.
Despite Raegan's calm exterior, he felt the urge to flee.
But it was too late.
Mitchel had anticipated his reaction. He quickly put an arm around her shoulders and pulled her up.
"Why didn't you ask me to pick you up?" he asked, his voice deep and magnetic.
Reagan couldn't help but think how ironic that was. He had just said that it had nothing to do with Mitchel. Yet here they were, intimately united, closer than they had ever been during their marriage.
While Mitchel hugged her, she looked at Hector in the car and greeted him politely.
"Uncle".
Hector nodded his head.
«Raegan is angry with me. Since she is teaching Bryce, I hope you can be more lenient with her if she does something wrong,â Mitchel said to Hector.
Raegan felt a chill run down her spine. Mitchel seemed to know too much about her.
Besides, it wasn't that she was angry with him, but that they had gotten divorced.
Héctor smiled and simply replied: "Okay."
Then he left.
Mitchel straightened and an enigmatic smile danced on his lips. But then, he turned to Raegan, and his smile disappeared in an instant.
âCome on,â he urged as he strode forward.
However, Raegan didn't move, causing him to go back and take her hand.
"Do you want me to take you?"
Raegan withdrew her hand and stared at him.
"Mitchel, what do you want?"
For a moment, Mitchel narrowed his eyes at her. The next second, he bent down to pick her up.
Surprised, Raegan's heat quickened. She clutched at his shirt and protested, "Mitchel!"
"Didn't you just ask me what I want to do?" He leaned in and, his lips brushing her ear, whispered, "Do you know now?"
