Chapter 1670:

With his words, Rhett removed the handkerchief from his hand, meticulously cleaned the knife, and carefully put it away. Without a backward glance at Jamie, he stomped away, abandoning her to her fate.
Behind him, Jamie's lifeless figure lay in a heartbreaking state, his eyes fixed on the vast expanse of the sky, deprived even of the comfort of eternal rest.
After a night of recovering at home, Nicole found herself unable to sit still. The next afternoon, she rushed to the hospital to check on Austin and thankfully, her condition was showing signs of improvement, which was a huge relief for her.
Jarrod approached Nicole and told her the latest news. âJamieâs gone.â
This struck Nicole like a bolt of lightning. She stood rooted to the spot, unable to speak for a long time. âHow is this possible?â
Nicole struggled to comprehend the sudden loss of her trail. Jamie was her best hope of discovering her father's killer.
Without her, the hard-earned clues seemed to be slipping through their fingers once again.
A deep wave of helplessness washed over Nicole, who felt totally lost and powerless.
âHe suffered the same fate as Brett,â Jarrod explained grimly. âSixty-seven stab wounds, executed with a precision that suggests the perpetrator knows his anatomy well.â
Nicole's senses heightened. âAre you saying that the person who killed Jamie is the same individual who killed Brett?â
If it was indeed the same killer who was responsible for the deaths of both Jamie and Brett, then it was highly likely that the same killer was the one who had ended his father's life.
No one else could connect Jamie and Brett so accurately.
âI think so. âYou should prioritize your safety and stay alert,â Jarrod advised solemnly. Then he pulled a ring from his pocket and handed it to Nicole. âKeep it.â
Nicole hesitated as she looked at the ring. âWhat's it for?â she asked, puzzled.
Noticing his hesitation, Jarrod realized he had misunderstood. A shadow crossed his expression, darkening it slightly. âItâs for self-defense,â I clarified. âInside is a needle with a toxic tip that can incapacitate an assailant.â
Knowing its potential value, Nicole accepted the ring. She carefully slid it onto a fingerânot the traditional ring finger, but one that symbolized independence and self-sufficiency. Jarrod's eyelid twitched imperceptibly at the sight, but he remained silent, choosing not to comment. She then handed him another bag filled with various items.
âThese are for self-defense, specially prepared by Conor. âHe will guide you through their functions,â he informed her, his voice tinged with urgency.
Nicole accepted the bag and revealed its contents, cleverly designed for self-defense. The items in the bag looked typical of those found in a woman's handbag.
âThank you,â Nicole expressed her gratitude with a nod.
This time Nicole did not decline Jarrod's help. She recognized that she was no longer alone, especially considering the baby she was carrying. Understanding the limitations of her physical strength as a pregnant woman, she saw the need for these small items for her protection.
Jarrod continued, âOne more thing. Your current apartment is not safe. You'd better go back to the villa. The security measures there are impenetrable from the outside.â
Nicole considered Jarrod's suggestion. The idea of ââreturning to the villa made her uneasy. The current dynamics of their relationship would certainly make living together awkward.
âI think itâs okay to stay here for now,â Nicole replied. âYou've arranged for several bodyguards, right? Iâll be cautious.â
âOkay, but think about it,â Jarrod replied, his tone still tinged with concern.
Respecting Nicole's decision, Jarrod did not press her further. Instead, he informed her: "The profile of the killer has been completed."
Jarrod had synthesized the findings from the professional profiles and assessments conducted by his own specialists, and shared them with Nicole.
