Chapter 1658

Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook

Chapter 1658:

Callie barely reacted. She sat there, her gaze downcast, seemingly oblivious to everything around her.

Nicole's voice cracked a little as she spoke, "Callie, I know what you're going through. We need information, or we won't find the person who took your father from us…"

Nicole understood Callie's agony all too well. The violent death of her own father had left a vivid and painful image burned into her memory.

Regret and remorse had plagued Nicole relentlessly since that tragic day, constantly reminding her of what she had lost: the chance to say goodbye to her father one last time.

Nicole longed to relive moments spent with him, to caress meals together and have deep, meaningful conversations.

The void left by his departure was deep, an endless pain, a poignant reminder of all the moments that had slipped through his fingers.

After speaking the comforting words, Nicole sat silently beside Callie, hugging her fragile form in silent vigil.

Callie's body began to shake almost imperceptibly. What started as a slight jolt quickly turned into a violent tremor. Her screams, weak at first, grew into a heart-wrenching crescendo.

“Nicole…” Callie’s voice, pain-filled and punctuated by sobs, cut through the silence. “I can't close my eyes. Every time I do, I see my father. The pain he endured… Sixty stab wounds, but he didn’t make a sound.”

When Nicole learned the details of the recent autopsy report, her world felt like it was falling apart. Brett had been stabbed more than sixty times during his lifetime.

The official cause of death was listed as organ failure, but Brett remained silent from the moment he was stabbed until his last breath.

Brett's silence was not a result of weakness, but of the deep love he felt for his daughter Callie.

He knew that screaming would draw Callie to his side, endangering her fragile state. In his final moments, Brett sacrificed his body to protect his daughter one last time.

Tears streamed down Nicole's cheeks as she took in the news. It was clear that Brett had been an exceptional father to Callie.

As Callie cried, her broken words filled the room, reflecting her deep anguish. “It's all my fault… It's all my fault.”

“If it weren't for my greed, for my father…” Callie said between sobs, prompting Nicole to listen carefully to her words.

Callie's voice was hoarse as she muttered, "If I hadn't expressed my desire to continue playing the violin, my father wouldn't have come back for that money and he wouldn't have met his tragic end."

When Brett recounted the incident to Nicole, he did not mention whether Jamie had actually given him the money.

Brett simply said that Jamie had offered her money and treatment. While the treatment part was true, and Callie was getting better, it seemed like there was no money involved.

But the truth was that Brett did receive money at the time. He wasn't naive enough to risk it all for no gain.

Even if Jamie had promised to help his daughter with treatment abroad, Brett would not have blindly placed his trust in her.

It was the money he had received that convinced him to approach Nicole's father, as Jamie had asked him to.

However, Brett chose not to reveal this information to Nicole. If he had, Nicole would have vehemently opposed him looking for the money, which would likely have resulted in the police confiscating it.

Ultimately, greed played a role in Brett's downfall.
