Chapter 1656:

âIt's okay, Nicole,â Roscoe said quietly. âIâll never forget it.â
With that, he left.
Nicole returned to the hospital room. As she approached the door, she saw Jarrod sitting by Austin's bed, watching his son intently.
Jarrod had felt a deep contemplation for the children. His heart had been consumed by hatred, leaving no room for anything else.
But now, looking at Austin's innocent face and healthy self, Jarrod realized how much he had been missing.
He felt unworthy of the title of âfather,â but selfishly he wanted Nicole to keep the baby growing inside her. This bondâtheir childrenâwas a thread that tied them together.
Jarrod, who had always been dominant and tough, now showed flashes of tenderness.
Looking at Austin, Jarrod murmured, âIâm sorry you had to suffer so muchâ¦â
Nicole stopped dead in her tracks at this. For the first time, she wondered if Jarrod wasn't as ruthless as he seemed. He was the father of her children, after all. Maybe he wouldn't be so cruel to them.
People are shaped by their upbringing, and Jarrod had never received the love or guidance he needed. He was like a machine, full of bitterness.
Jarrod turned to look at Nicole and spoke calmly, âAustin just fell asleep.â
Nicole agreed. As Jarrod started to leave, she called out, âWait a minute.â
"What's wrong?" I have asked.
Nicole closed the door behind her, her voice soft as she followed Jarrod. âAbout Roscoe, I misjudged you. âI owe you an apology and my thanks.â
Nicole's frankness was a defining trait. She always knew right from wrong and never hesitated to tell the truth or apologize.
Jarrod's lips twitched, amusement flickering behind his serene gaze. With feigned indifference, he replied, "I didn't help him." He was reluctant to admit that he had helped his romantic rival.
Nicole walked past and picked up the conversation. âI heard you're looking for Jamie. I'm working on that too. Let me know as soon as you locate her.â
Nicole had questions that only Jamie could answer, although she knew Jamie was cunning. If he was caught, Jamie would likely hide the truth, influenced by the mysterious figure behind the scenes.
Nicole wanted to confront Jamie to close the case of her father's death.
âI understand,â Jarrod said. âDon't look any further. âIâve set things in motion.â
Jarrod was concerned that Jamie's search posed a threat to Nicole's safety. Little information had been revealed about the mastermind behind Jamie, either his identity or his intentions.
Given the resources and cruelty the mastermind had demonstrated, Jarrod wanted to protect Nicole from further trouble.
Nicole agreed, although her resolve remained firm. This matter was directly related to the truth about her father's death. She was determined to seek the truth, despite the risks.
At that moment, Nicole's phone rang abruptly. It was Ethel.
Nicole picked up the phone and Ethel's distressed voice filled her ears.
