Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook

Chapter 1646:

Callie paused briefly before asking, “Nicole, is everything you said true?” Is my father really involved in your father’s death?”

Instead of a direct answer, Nicole said, “Callie, I too am seeking the truth. Therefore, I demand that your father reveal it himself.”

At Callie's subsequent silence, Nicole continued, "Do you have faith in me, Callie?"

Nicole added, “I assure you that I will only be engaged to your father. His whereabouts will remain a secret. Is that okay with you?”

After a moment of contemplation, Callie agreed. “Fine, I'll reveal it. But you must come alone.”

“Understood,” Nicole tempered her enthusiasm.

Upon returning to Rhett's living room, Nicole informed Rhett of an urgent matter that required her attention.

Rhett smiled and said, “Please go ahead. “I’ll handle it here.”

Once Nicole left, Rhett's gaze took on a deep, contemplative look.

Nicole followed the direction provided by Callie, going alone. Reflecting on their previous encounter, Nicole opted for the solo trip so as not to alert Brett and to ensure answers.

The destination was quite far away, nestled in a suburban sprawl. According to Callie, Brett intended to flee the country with her, starting the journey from an isolated village bordering the county, an optimal place to cross the unnoticed border.

By the time Nicole arrived, darkness had already settled over the area. Only a handful of homes remained standing in the suburban neighborhood, while Brett and Callie took refuge in an abandoned school, biding their time.

Approaching the door, Nicole followed Callie's instructions, slipping through a gap in the back wall. The place had long been abandoned, with wild grass covering every inch—a perfect hiding spot.

Nicole inspected each classroom, looking for signs of life until she reached the third. There, a slightly hunched figure greeted her sight. Nicole recognized him immediately: Brett.

Over the years, Brett's appearance had changed little, but his posture was no longer as rigid as it once was. The hardships of life had taken their toll on him.

With a mixture of anticipation and apprehension, Nicole knocked softly on the door.

Brett turned quickly, grabbing a sturdy cane, his gaze fixed on the entrance.

When he saw Nicole, his face changed, confusion took over him. He couldn't understand how Nicole had found him. "You..."

Breaking the silence, Nicole spoke first: “Brett, it’s been a while.”

Brett exclaimed, “How did you find me?”

Before Nicole could respond, Callie chimed in, “It was me, Dad. “I invited Nicole.”

“Callie, are you crazy?” Brett exploded, furious. “Have you forgotten everything I told you?”

“I haven't forgotten,” Callie said, standing up with conviction. “I brought Nicole here because you promised me we'd leave the country and never come back. But what about Nicole? Why can't you explain to her what happened that year? Is it related to you or not, Dad?”

Callie's tears flowed as she continued, "I refuse to have a murderer as a father. You can't destroy another family's happiness for the sake of our own. I've always admired you… but what about now?"
