Chapter 1606:

At dawn, Nicole left her house and hailed a taxi.
Keeping a discreet distance, Jarrod followed closely behind her.
Watching the car's trajectory, Jarrod anticipated Nicole's fate. Keeping a safe distance to avoid detection, he followed closely behind.
As expected, the taxi stopped at the entrance of the sanatorium where Nicole's mother resided.
Nicole got out of the vehicle and went inside.
Nicole's visits to the sanatorium were frequent and the staff had become accustomed to her presence.
Upon seeing Nicole, they greeted her cordially: âMiss Lawrence, you are here.â
Nicole agreed and asked, âHas there been any change in my motherâs condition in the last few days?â
This question was routine for Nicole. She feared that even a brief absence might cause her to miss pertinent information about her mother's health. However, she could not afford to completely ignore outside matters and remain constantly at her mother's side.
Nicole undoubtedly harbored a fervent desire to bring her mother home, but Jarrod's opposition made it an unattainable prospect.
In addition, the sanatorium offered comprehensive medical facilities, crucial to her mother's treatment, which could not be replicated at home.
The nurse replied: âThere is no change. âIt is still the same as before.â
Nicole was not discouraged by the constant news. Often, the absence of change was the most comforting news of all.
Dora lived in a perpetual haze. Wasn't this state a blessing? If Dora were to wake up, how would she face the harsh reality of her broken family?
If possible, Nicole wanted to carry this burden alone.
Turning to the nurse, Nicole asked, âCan I have some time alone with my mother?â
"Of course, Miss Lawrence. I'm leaving now. If you need anything, just ring the bell."
"Thank you."
Once the nurse left, Nicole turned her attention to Dora, who sat motionless on the bed, staring at the delicate flowers adorning the windowsill. Nicole called out softly, âMommyâ¦â
Dora didn't answer, her gaze fixed on the flowers outside, without blinking.
Nicole approached Dora, wrapping her in a tender hug.
"Mother..."
Nicole had a multitude of thoughts, a torrent of words clamoring to get out, but she didn't know where to start.
In this sacred space, she found solace in unburdening herself of the myriad thoughts and pressures that had weighed upon her, finding a measure of relief in the act itself.
âMom⦠Momâ¦â In the end, Nicole didn't reveal anything. She just hugged her mother, tears streaming down her cheeks in a torrent of anguish. With each sob, the weight on her shoulders seemed to lighten, as if her tears were taking away some of her burden.
