Wayne tried to temper his anger. “Let it be. What can you really do? He doesn't care about you anymore. “His focus now is solely on that woman and her sick child.”

Wayne added bitterly: “It is absurd for Jarrod to consider a vasectomy for a sick child. It is clear that this child is everything to him. However, with his delicate heart and no donor, coupled with the lack of a skilled surgeon, the boy will not live long.”

Wayne found cold comfort in this thought. Despite the disarray within the Hampton family, Jarrod's thought facing the possible loss of his son, and therefore his bloodline, provided Wayne with a dark solace.

“Heart surgery?” Vicki asked suddenly, a thought sparking. She looked at Wayne seriously. “Have you forgotten? There’s someone who can perform the operation.”

"Who?" Wayne was stunned, not remembering.

"Don't you remember your old friend, who was a great heart specialist? He retired after his wife died," Vicki said.

Wayne then remembered the individual in question as a renowned heart specialist and long-time family friend who decided to retire following the accidental death of his wife.

Now, remembered by Vicki, Wayne's memory returned.

“This is our chance to turn our fortunes around,” Vicki said solemnly.

Wayne's attitude brightened considerably at Vicki's resolve. "It's good to see how quickly you've taken control of the situation," he commented, clearly impressed.

“You’ve stepped up remarkably quickly,” Wayne continued, acknowledging his leadership. “It seems the Hampton family is in good hands.”

“Vicki looks like she could make the Hampton family prosper,” Wayne mused, affirming with his words that Vicki was his successor.

Vicki was praised by Wayne's praise. "Don't worry. The Hampton family will prosper under my leadership," he assured her, taking her hand firmly.

Shortly after their meeting, Vicki had her assistant book a flight where she could get the medical help as a bargaining chip.

Meanwhile, almost at the same time that Vicki was released, Doreen was also released.

Hallie greeted Doreen with tears and a big hug, distraught by the damage the order she had given to her daughter. “Poor thing, you’ve suffered so much.”

"You've lost so much weight. It's heartbreaking."

Doreen, feeling aggrieved and overwhelmed, weakly replied, “Mom…”

During her harrowing half-month in detention, Doreen had trouble sleeping and losing her appetite, and was even physically assaulted by other inmates who took advantage of her vulnerability without leaving any noticeable marks.

Feeling totally isolated and wronged, Doreen lamented out loud, “Jarrod was so cruel! How could he just leave me here without coming to rescue me…” Tears ran down her cheeks.

Hallie, visibly heartbroken, commented: “Your uncle has changed completely, and it’s all because of his wife. “He even plans to send you to study abroad once you are released, without the option of returning.”

“What? No way!” Doreen exclaimed, shocked and dismayed. “Mum, I really don't want to go abroad. “I want to stay here.” She shook her head vigorously.

“Studying abroad isn't like traveling. “It would mean constant supervision and no freedom,” Doreen snapped, highlighting the stark differences between traveling and the restrictive plans Jarrod had for her.

Hallie, feeling helpless, replied bitterly, “I can't change his mind anymore. “Your uncle is too focused on his wife and sick child.”
