Chapter 1386
Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook
Chapter 1386:
? ? ? ? ?
Although Jemma had refrained from telling Nicole, she had actually received help from the Lawrence family in the past.
However, she had found herself trapped in the entertainment industry, feeling ashamed for not living up to Nicole's father's expectations.
Jemma had been drawn into the industry by her first love, who ended up betraying her and holding her over to a powerful man.
At a tender age, she was scarred and unable to bear children. She entered show business to seek revenge on that influential individual.
Fortunately, Jemma later met someone even more influential, who helped her seek justice when that influential individual fell from grace.
Even after justice was served, Jemma found herself unable to return to her former life.
Nicole's father stood out as a rare beacon of goodness, possessing a merchant's shrewdness and a generous heart. It was unfortunate that he should have been beset by such misfortune.
As Nicole's only daughter, Jemma naturally felt obliged to look after Nicole's well-being.
However, Jemma found it hard to accept the fact that she had once received support from Nicole's father and had still ended up in this industry. It was too humiliating.
Nicole reached out and took Jemma's arm, resting her head on it. "I understand, Jemma."
Despite not being at the age of a retiree, Jemma had accumulated a wealth of experiences that made her much more mature than her peers.
Sometimes Nicole thought of Jemma as a big sister, but there were certain matters she couldn't trust in anyone.
After a moment's hesitation, Jemma gently patted Nicole's head and offered, "Take care of yourself, and I'll be happy about that."
âI willâ¦â After a brief pause for contemplation, Nicole felt considerably calmer. Standing up, she turned to Jemma: âJemma, you should mind your own business. âIâll do the same.â
"OK."
With that, the two women went their separate ways. Nicole headed to the room Vicki had indicated.
As she walked in, Vicki and Doreen were waiting for her.
Keeping a neutral expression, Nicole asked, âMiss Hampton, what do you want from me?â
Vicki stifled to laugh behind her hand. âI don't require your services. Itâs Doreen who wishes to speak to you.â
Nicole looked at Doreen, detecting a simmering anger in her gaze.
Without warning, Doreen stood up abruptly and delivered a resounding slap across Nicole's face. âHave you gone blind in just a few days? Can't you see me?â
Nicole's head snapped back from the force of the blow, a painful ringing in her ear.
Doreen had been harboring the desire to slap her for days. The time Nicole had attended her wedding and caused a scene, Doreen had been on the verge of strangling her to death.
Had it not been for Jarrod's timely intervention, Nicole would have endured a savage beating at the hands of Miguel, as Doreen's means of venting her anger.
Jarrod's feelings for Nicole remained a mystery to Doreen.
