Plus, having someone Dora couldn't reject helped stabilize her condition.
Plus, Jarrod had made all the arrangements for Dora from the beginning, so Nicole couldn't just tell him to go away.
Her only option was to avoid confrontations with Jarrod, which was why she only came to visit her mother when Jarrod was not around.
But Jarrod's work kept him busy and he rarely visited Dora.
Nicole's worries were unfounded.
The nurse saw Nicole's tired face and said in an understanding voice, "Miss Lawrence, why don't you go home and get some rest? You must be tired from work and you live so far away. You visited us yesterday and you came back today. You must be exhausted."
The nurse did not know the nature of Nicole's job. Nicole couldn't admit it, so she simply said that she worked and often stayed up late.
Worried about Nicole's health, the nurse reassured her again: "Miss Lawrence, don't worry. I'll take good care of your mother."
Nicole responded with a nod: âThank you for your efforts. Please call me if anything happens.â
"Of course, Miss Lawrence."
Nicole stood up and studied Dora, who was sleeping peacefully with her eyes closed.
The reluctance was evident in Nicole's voice when she said, "Mom, I'm leaving. Take care of yourself. I hope that every time I come to visit you, you'll be healthy."
Nicole knew that Dora couldn't understand her words, but she still spoke every time before she left, hoping that one day Dora would remember her.
Part of Nicole considered Dora's current state to be a blessing. If Dora still had her memory, she would remember that her husband had met his death by jumping off the building, that her daughter was in trouble, and that her only grandson was in the clutches of the enemy.
It was impossible for his stubborn personality to bear it.
That was why Nicole hoped these painful memories would remain lost forever.
Nicole left the sanatorium, completely exhausted. It was still early, and she decided to go to the hospital.
ck and take care of some work matters for a while, not wanting to disturb Jemma.
He pulled out his phone and called a taxi. He had barely been waiting at the entrance for five minutes when the car arrived.
Nicole opened the door and climbed into the backseat. The driver in front was wearing a mask, which made her look at him suspiciously.
Sensing Nicole's scrutiny, the driver glanced at her in the rearview mirror and apologized: "I'm sorry, miss. I have a cold and I don't want to give it to you."
Nicole just agreed, not giving it much thought. Since she had booked the Uber with her phone, the entire trip was being tracked, and there was a one-click emergency call feature. This made her feel safe, and she soon fell asleep in the backseat.
Nicole didn't know how long she had been gone until she suddenly woke up. She thought she heard the driver talking on the phone, but when she fully woke up, she saw that he was still masked and focused on driving. She wondered if she had dreamed it.
He looked out the window and saw the gray sky, a sign that it would soon start raining.
Nicole stared for a moment and felt that something was not right.
He quickly checked his phone and asked, âSir, are we on the right road?â
