"I will follow your instructions, but don't come near my son or I will make you regret it," Nicole warned her.

Vicki just laughed again, completely dismissing Nicole's threat.

What could Nicole do in this state? Austin seemed even more delicate. With a simple word, she could order her elimination if she so chose. Just like now, despite her inner resistance, Nicole had to obey.

Vicki savored the control, revealing in the power it gave her. It was exhilarating. “As long as you behave, I won't hurt you. Honestly, I'm not interested in your son. My focus is on you, Miss Lawrence. Behave yourself when you arrive, and if you impress me, I might even show some kindness to your son. “How about that?”

“Fine, but keep your promise.” Nicole glared at Vicki and warned, “If you dare hurt Austin, I’ll make sure the entire Hampton family pays dearly.”

The entire Hampton family was a rotten bunch. Vicki, Lowe and Wayne…

None of them had any respect for human life.

But Nicole's words didn't move Vicki. She found Nicole's defiant stance ridiculous, even in her already sorry state. With a casual toss of her hair, Vicki commented, “I won't bother you anymore. 6:30 PM, Kingbel Club. Don’t be late.”

Vicki turned and walked away, her high heels clicking audibly with each step.

Once Vicki was gone, Nicole couldn't keep her composure and collapsed on the floor next to the bed. The floor was cold, but her heart felt even colder…

Tonight marked the beginning of a new, uncertain chapter. She was sure more challenges lay ahead. She wasn't sure she could withstand the next onslaught. But for Austin's sake, she had to stay strong.

Nicole ignored the doctor's advice and insisted on leaving the hospital.

Reluctantly, the doctor agreed to let her go. Once the paperwork was completed, Nicole was shocked to see an unexpected amount of money in her bank account.

Alec had apparently deposited the money. Nicole quickly transferred the amount equivalent to her hospital bills to the Schultz Group's corporate account.

She didn't want to keep the money or be in Jarrod's debt. Right now, she was looking forward to cutting all ties with him and focusing solely on having Austin back in her arms.

This morning I had looked up Derek's medical records at this hospital and checked with nearby hospitals, but no one had heard from him.

No one knew where Derek was and it was highly likely that he was no longer alive. Leighton was probably impossible to contact.

Leighton had been discovered, and Alec would no doubt take the necessary steps to deal with the situation completely.

Nicole understood that Alec was the kind of person who, once he acted, didn't leave a single clue.

After two weeks of following leads, her efforts had come to a disappointing end. It was inevitable that she would feel desperate.

Nicole couldn't waste time feeling sorry for herself, though. There were more crucial tasks at hand.

Nicole went back to her room to gather her things.

Meanwhile, Roscoe was waiting in the upstairs hallway, not knowing what he was waiting for. Then he spotted a slender figure on the floor below.

The unmistakable feeling of recognition hit him. It was her again…

Nicole looked completely defeated, walking aimlessly, almost floating in space.

Roscoe couldn't help but feel sorry for Nicole, and once again he put his hand to his heart. What was wrong with her? Why was his heart always out of control whenever he saw her…
