Chapter 1290
Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook
Chapter 1290:
? ? ? ? ?
It was clear why men found her irresistible, and even the stoic Jarrod couldn't help but be drawn to her.
Vicki set her jaw and snapped, âAre you just going to let me go, Miss Lawrence? âI thought you might want to get an update on your son.â
Nicole's eyes shot open and she sat up suddenly. âWhat's wrong with Austin?â
âDidnât you say you wanted me to leave you alone?â Vicki replied, standing up and pretending to leave. âI won't bother you anymore. You donât seem to care about your son that much.â
âStop it!â Nicole's voice cracked as she reached out, grabbing Vicki's wrist to stop her. âExplain yourself. Whatâs going on with Austin?â
Vicki won, surprised by Nicole's strength. "You're hurting me," she whined.
Nicole released her grip immediately and insisted, âTell me. What happened to Austin?
Rubbing her wrist, Vicki murmured, âHe just has a slight fever, nothing serious.â
âWhat?â Nicole's voice rose in alarm. âA fever? Austin's health is fragile. Are you telling me heâs not being looked after?â
Nicole's anger simmered beneath the surface. Jarrod had taken Austin away from his care, and this was the care Austin was receiving?
Every illness Austin had was dangerous.
âThis man's negligence is appalling. âHe canât even take proper care of his own child.â Nicole smoked internally.
"Why do you blame me? It's your fault that he gets sick," Vicki replied accusingly.
âWhat do you mean?â Nicole was confused by Vicki's words.
Vicki's voice held an edge of accusation. âIf Jarrod hadn't been here with you, neglecting Austin, Austin wouldn't be sick right now.â
Nicole fell silent, realizing the implications. It seemed like Vicki had orchestrated this situation.
Vickiâs mask slipped even further, her voice cold as she continued, âIâve heard that Austin has a serious heart condition. Even a mild cold could be dangerous for himâ¦â
âNonsense!â Nicole snapped, anger burning inside her. Even though Austin was delicate, the nanny usually kept him well.
However, under Jarrod's watch and Vicki's care, Austin had fallen ill.
How could Jarrod entrust his son to a woman so clearly infatuated with him? Was he crazy?
The idea of ââVicki hurting Austin wasn't far-fetched in Nicole's overwhelmed mind.
These disturbing thoughts crowded into Nicole's head, increasing her anxiety. She struggled to regain her composure and demanded, "Vicki, tell me what you want."
Emboldened, Vicki hid her smile with her hand, her voice soft but sharp. âI heard you were quite the hostess, helping Jarrod entertain his guests by drinking with them. You were pretty good at it, weren't you?â
Nicole, taken back by the change of topic, shook her head.
