Chapter 1198:

Vicki felt a lump in her throat. But she finally found her voice, even though it was shaking. âJarrod, I don't want to hear any more. Please don't go. Go home and have dinner with me, okay?â
However, Jarrod firmly refused. âNo, Iâm not going back.â
âJarrod, I won't ask you where you're going. But can you spare me some dignity? Just this once, listen to me. Then, after thatâ¦â Vicki struggled to finish her words. But finally, she said slowly, âAfter that, you can go wherever you want. âI wonât ask you for anything.â
He wanted to buy time to find a way to confront Nicole.
Just then, the flight attendant came over and urged, "Mr. Schultz, it's time to board the plane."
Jarrod raised his arm and checked his watch. He nodded and said, âGive me five more minutes.â
The flight attendant acknowledged and left the room.
Jarrod walked over to Vicki and held out his hand to steady her shaking body. Then he said calmly, âDo you remember what I told you the night you came to see me?â
Vicki paled. Of course she remembered.
When the Jarrod scandal first broke, Vicki immediately confronted him to find out if it was true.
Jarrod didn't deny it. Although he didn't say a word, he agreed to confirm that it was him.
Vickie was in tears. She asked, âJarrod, Nicole has ruined you. âShe just wants to destroy you and the Schultz Group.â
Jarrod agreed. âI know.â
Vicki was shocked. âYou know that? And yet you still let him?â
Jarrod looked at Vicki with a tired look on his face. âI can't live without her, so I have to lock her up next to me.â
Vicki could only stare at Jarrod, speechless. But he didn't offer any further explanation. He simply turned around and walked away.
During the days when Jarrod was under investigation, Vicki lived alone in agony and realized that she could not hate Jarrod. But she despised Nicole who had caused Jarrod so much pain. She never thought that it was Jarrod who trapped Nicole by his side and later acted out of desperation to escape.
No matter what happened, Vicki couldn't bring herself to forget Jarrod. So when he was released on bail that night, she couldn't help but rush out to find him.
As soon as they met, she got straight to the point. âJarrod, I can help you.â
But unexpectedly, Jarrod refused without even listening to her. He said, âI can't give you what you want. âAll my love and hate I have given to Nicole.â
Perhaps Jarrod was too tired of dealing with the scandal Nicole had uncovered. I have rejected the idea of ââtaking advantage of others.
However, Vicki did not give in. âJarrod, I don't need your heart. It doesn't matter if you love her or hate her. I just need you by my side. âYou know as well as I do that your current situation can only be resolved by a marriage of convenience.â
Vicki thought her offer was tempting enough. After all, she was pretty and had a good family. And most importantly, her father adored her. Since her father adored her so much, any man she married would undoubtedly gain the support of the Hampton family. Who wouldn't want to add such an icing to their cake?
Furthermore, these large companies understood very well that powerful alliances through marriages of convenience were the nutrients for stable development.
