Chapter 1169
Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook
Chapter 1169:
? ? ? ? ?
After a little coaxing from Raegan, Janey's tears had dried, though she still longed to talk to Mitchel.
Mitchel, stroking her hair, smiled and asked, "What's bothering you, Janey?"
"Dad, why do you need surgery?"
"I want to be your superhero again, sprinting and playing smoothly," Mitchel explained with a hopeful glint in his eyes.
Janey thought silently. She didn't need Mitchel to carry her anymore.
However, Raegan had insisted on the crucial nature of the operation.
Janey looked down and murmured, âOkay. Dad, not all of my friends actually get piggyback rides from their parents, but they say that as long as a family is together, that's all that matters for happiness.â
Mitchel gently kissed Janey's forehead, reassuring her, "Don't worry, darling. Your mother and I will always be here for you."
After a while, the operation had begun.
Raegan was anxious, but thankfully everything went well and Mitchel emerged from the operating room awake shortly after.
Over the next few days, Luis monitored the post-operative results and was overjoyed. âMitchel, we did it. You are a hero. âThis will change the lives of millions of people.â
Raegan was perplexed. What had they accomplished? Changed the lives of millions of people?
Luis, noticing her puzzled expression, cleared his throat and said, âYou two have quite a bit to discuss.â He then hurried out of the room.
Raegan turned to Mitchel, who had seen a marked improvement in the past few days. He could now stand for over half an hour and walk about ten meters unaided. His health was improving day by day.
Feeling confident at last, Mitchel decided to reveal the whole truth to Raegan. âThis operation. âI was the first human to undergo it.â
Raegan gasped. âDidnât they say it was a 95% success rate?â
Mitchel clarified: âIt's from 1995, but that was based on animal testing. I was the first personâ¦â
Before Mitchel could continue, Raegan punched him hard. Crying, she said, âMitchel, you lied to me again!â
Tears streamed uncontrollably down her face as she struggled to catch her breath.
âRaegan, Raeganâ¦â Seeing that just saying her name did nothing, Mitchel put his arms around her, slowly calming her tears.
"Listen to me, the structure of animals and humans is basically the same. I only tried it because I had a 95% chance of success, and I trust Luis," Mitchel explained.
âYou should have told meâ¦â Raegan was overwhelmed, but she was having a hard time articulating her feelings.
He felt like he should have realized how much his leg meant to him. He would often stare at it when he thought he was alone, lost in thought for what seemed like hours. He would also watch other parents playing with their children in the park, longing in his eyes.
Raegan berated herself for not being perceptive enough. How could she not have noticed what he was thinking right now?
