Chapter 1145
Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook
Chapter 1145:
? ? ? ? ?
If genetic testing proved that Raegan was Davey's biological daughter, it would be a huge shock for Davey to realize that he had tried to kill his own blood on multiple occasions.
So Davey was plagued by conflicting feelings even before he knew the test results. Part of him hoped Raegan's claims were false. But deep down, I hoped they were true.
At her age, the idea of ââhaving a child became increasingly attractive to her.
The deeper the isolation and abandonment one experienced in youth, the more intensely one longed for a connection with one's offspring, seeking to repair the echoes of a lonely childhood.
As Davey spent hours observing Raegan, he noticed similarities in their sleep patterns. They both remained alert in unfamiliar surroundings.
Davey stood up and said in a calm, soft voice, âGet up and eat something. If Raegan hadn't known about Davey's past, she might have mistaken him for a decent man. For now, he was convincingly hiding his malevolent and unstable tendencies.â
Remaining silent, Raegan kept her head bowed. She was careful not to meet his eyes, worried that her resentment might show and arouse suspicion.
Despite her restraint, Davey found himself increasingly captivated by her. He asked, âRaegan, did your mother name you that?â
Raegan just agreed.
Young Raegan owned a gold medallion engraved with her name, a memory her adoptive father had kept after searching the town and police stations without finding any reports of a missing girl named Raegan.
Her oblivion was due to Davey abandoning her thousands of miles away at a time when technology and searches for missing persons were ineffective.
Raegan's adoptive father, a compassionate man, felt a deep bond with young Raegan and decided not to hide her identity. He kept her original name intact, hoping that it would one day lead her birth parents to her.
âSounds good,â Davey says.
Seeing Raegan remain silent, Davey tried to say something more, but was at a loss for words. âRest well,â he finally said before leaving the room.
The servants served a plentiful and luxurious meal.
Raegan looked at the feast before her, certain that Davey wouldn't dare poison her just yet. At least, not until the results of the paternity test were confirmed.
Raegan's current location remained a mystery, suggesting that Davey was hiding her in a very secret location. As a result, he knew that the test results would not be available quickly.
Even Davey would have to wait about three days.
These next three days represented Raegan's critical window to escape.
Davey's kindness was due to the fact that he believed she could be his daughter. If the evidence proved otherwise, Raegan doubted he would hesitate to eliminate her.
After eating, Raegan paced the room, under the watchful eye of a servant who never left.
Despite Davey's apparent trust issues, Raegan attempted to discover his whereabouts. Taking advantage of a moment when the servant was distracted, she pulled back a curtain, hoping to catch a glimpse outside and gain a clue as to his whereabouts, muttering about the stuffiness as a cover.
Her hope quickly turned to disappointment. The curtain did not hide any window, but a plain wall, which only served as decoration, which explained the maid's lack of concern.
Feeling defeated, Raegan returned to the bed to close her eyes and rest, conserving her strength as she contemplated her next move.
