Chapter 1143
Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook
Chapter 1143:
? ? ? ? ?
Casey's pupils dilated unfocused, showing no reaction to his question.
Daveyâs hands tightened on his arms as he gritted his teeth and pressed, âTalk! Are you?â
Casey was still unresponsive, only making incoherent sounds from the pain.
Ever since Casey laid eyes on Jimena's lifeless body, she had been in this state.
Davey had overestimated Casey's resilience, first revealing that his adopted son had been shot, and then the horrific scene of Jimena's lifeless body.
Years of confinement in a basement had shattered Casey's spirit, and these revelations shattered her completely. She took responsibility. If Erick hadn't stepped in to save her, he wouldn't have been the target.
Jimena's death also fell on Casey's conscience, as Davey had mercilessly executed Jimena for her duties.
Always a kind soul with a heart of gold, Casey blamed herself for the suffering of others, self-hatred overwhelming her. Her mind had shut down, like a burnt fuse, with no answers.
Her once celebrated beauty now seemed obscured by her empty babbling and sporadic drooling. Yet even in the mess, her beauty persisted.
Casey stared at the surveillance screen.
Suddenly, a soft âMamaâ echoed through the monitor speaker.
Hearing this, Casey began to focus her gaze, but fell out of the wheelchair.
Davey extended a hand to help her, but she forcefully pushed him away.
Casey frankly made her way to the monitor. Inside, Raegan had shifted from a fetal position to lying on her back, her body shaking and her gaze fixed on the camera. Summoning all her strength, she screamed, âMomâ¦â
At that point, Casey, incoherent and overwhelmed, slammed her hands on the screen.
Davey watched her erratic actions and laughed, relieved to see her receptive again.
She watched Raegan on the monitor crying âMommyâ and then unchalantly looked away.
Moments later, I pressed a green button next to the monitor and issued an order. âTake her out.â
Davey watched intently as security escorted Raegan outside, administered emergency care, and helped her fall into a deep, stable sleep.
Only then did Davey breathe a sigh of relief. It was strange. He shouldn't have felt this way. He rationalized that without Raegan's unique ability to influence Casey's condition, he would never have reconsidered his situation.
Once satisfied that Raegan was stable, Davey left the room where she had been taken to rest.
The door clicked shut behind him.
Raegan's eyes flew open, alone in the dim, serene, warm room. Looking into the comforting darkness, she realized her risky gamble had been successful.
Managing to pull herself together before she froze to death, those weak cries of hers for "Mommy" had really caught Davey's attention.
However, Davey probably had not understood the psychological tactics that influenced his decision.
