Chapter 1140
Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook
Chapter 1140:
? ? ? ? ?
âWhy did you want to kill me?â Raegan asked. She knew this question might seem naive, given that Davey obviously harbored a desire to kill her because she was Casey's daughter.
She had noticed, though, that those who seemed smart usually ended up quickly at Davey's hands. Perhaps appearing a little naive and scared might lower her defenses. Besides, she was genuinely curious to know how Davey had tracked her down as a child.
Davey, with a placid face and a slight smile, replied, âBecause I couldn't bear the thought of my love being tainted. Your very existence is a reminder of its once committed purity.â
Raegan was struck dumb by his madness. She tempered her voice, which was shaking slightly. âHow did you find me when I was a child?â
âIt was pure chance,â Davey replied, smiling. âI didn't expect your foster father to keep such a close eye on you. âYou were very lucky.â
His smile turned into a more sinister and twisted one. âYou didn't perish in the cold that night, nor did you suffocate in a garbage bagâ¦â
Raegan's eyes widened in horror. âIt was youâ¦â She gasped, putting two and two together. âIt was you who put me in a garbage bag and threw me away!â
âNot so stupid,â Davey commented, acknowledging that he had noticed.
Davey's face twisted into a satisfied smile. âYou are indeed very lucky. When I threw you into that bag, I hit the ground several times, and yet here you are, alive.â
Raegan listened, horror mounting. How could anyone inflict such cruelty on a child? She knew her survival was due to the flexibility of her child's body, described by her foster father when he found her in a landfill.
After bringing young Raegan home, they discovered bruises covering her body. She was barely clinging to life.
They nursed her back to health, doubting that she would survive. However, amazingly, she soon regained her energy, and subsequent medical examinations revealed no lingering problems.
Raegan suspected that the mud had cushioned much of the impact and that children's bodies were naturally more resilient. There were instances of children surviving falls from great heights with minimal injury.
Although rare, these miracles did happen, and Raegan's case was truly miraculous.
Reflecting on how she had narrowly escaped Davey's attempts to kill her, Raegan regained her composure. Slowly, Raegan tried to engage Davey in conversation. âIs my mother in your custody?â she asked.
Daveyâs gentle facade vanished as he grabbed Raegan by the jaw, his eyes sharp and menacing. âDon't you dare call that woman your mother. âYou donât deserve it, and I wonât let you live.â
The murderous attempt in his gaze was unmistakable.
Raegan knew Davey was planning to end her life. This deranged man, who had already tried to kill her twice, was certainly not going to let this opportunity pass.
Pain shot through his jaw as it snapped. Raegan struggled to breathe, but managed to scream out defiantly, âLet me see my mother one last time⦠Then, do whatever you wantâ¦â
âKeep dreaming!â Davey abruptly released Raegan, throwing her to the ground. His eyes were icy cold as he spat, âYou, a cursed being, should not exist!â
Davey could not accept that his revered goddess had had a child with another man. Such a stain had to be removed.
Despite the stabbing pain in her jaw, Raegan continued to plead through her tears, âJust one look. Please let me see my mother⦠I want to cross that off my bucket list.â
Davey was amused by Raegan's acute awareness of her impending death, coupled with her single-minded desire to see Casey. He scoffed, "You want to see her, but she might not want to see you!"
Raegan shook her head. âYou're lying. How could my mother not want to see me? She loves me. If it hadn't been for you kidnapping her and abandoning me, we'd still be living happily ever after!â
"It seems like you won't believe it until you see it for yourself."
