Chapter 1138:
? ? ? ? ?
He was thrown into the air and crashed to the ground with a devastating impact.
Young Raegan witnessed the horrible sight of her body torn apart by the impact, her limbs grotesquely disjointed, one of her legs thrown grossly before her.
The vision was nightmarishly vivid.
As he lay on the ground in front of Raegan, his eyes, wide and unseeing, seemed to silently beg her to be quiet.
Young Raegan, looking into his blank stare, felt an overwhelming urge to scream, but her voice was choked as if her throat were filled with cotton.
His silence, however, turned out to be his protection.
As he stepped out of the sports car, a man dressed in a red velvet suit appeared. Despite his gentle appearance, his actions concealed a brutal cruelty.
He inadvertently turned over his adoptive father's corpse to confirm his death, then muttered loudly, apparently to the deceased, "Where is the girl?"
This sent shivers down the spine of young Raegan. It was clear that the man was looking for her.
The day had started innocently enough. It was his birthday, and his foster father had just returned from the country, proposing a joyous excursion to the village in search of a birthday present.
While at the bakery, her adoptive father caught the man in the red velvet suit staring at young Raegan. That stare, unyielding and intense, unsettled Raegan, especially amidst the rumors of child abductions circulating.
Sensing danger, her foster father quickly grabbed the cake as soon as it was ready and hurried Raegan out of the tent.
They had barely turned the corner when they noticed a red car following them at a slow pace.
This observation sent his adoptive father into a panic.
Aware of Raegan's beauty, which could easily attract attention, her adoptive father had always dressed her in modest, nondescript clothing and had combed her hair with a thick fringe to disguise her features. Despite these precautions, the man's intentions seemed evil.
Determined to confront the situation, his adoptive father stopped to see if the pursuer was passing by.
To his dismay, the red car also stopped.
At that moment, Raegan's adoptive father was certain that the man was targeting young Raegan.
Back then, someone dressed in an extravagant outfit and driving a remarkably expensive car would not be suspected of child abduction. In fact, making such a claim could even lead to trouble.
After all, there was a prevailing belief in their close-knit community that wealthy individuals were above such misdeeds. This belief encouraged the man to pursue them so openly.
When Raegan's foster father saw the man approaching with a steady stride, he impulsively grabbed young Raegan and ran away.
Raegan, confused and upset, watched her cake fall to the floor and burst into tears. âDad, the cake⦠The cakeâ¦â
For a child, the loss of a cake was a unique grief. With tears in her eyes, young Raegan looked at the shattered cake and writhed, wanting to escape from her foster father's clutches.
Her foster father, out of breath from running, tried to calm her down.
"Baby, be good. Daddy will bring you another one later."
