Chapter 1118
Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook
Chapter 1118:
? ? ? ? ?
Raegan hesitated, afraid that going any deeper might drag her into emotions she couldn't escape. A wave of panic washed over her. Her face showed her anguish clearly. After all, she had decided to keep her distance from Mitchel.
What was he doing now? His unconscious reaction made him realize that he really couldn't get close to Mitchel. At any moment his deepest thoughts could be revealed.
"I have nothing I want to know," Raegan insisted stubbornly.
Then he said to her: "I'll turn the corner further on. You can come back. I'm going first."
With that, he didn't give her a chance to respond and ran off as if he was going to escape. He was afraid that staying any longer would make his innermost feelings more and more obvious. Especially now, when he mentioned that Eloise and he didn't have a special relationship, he felt his heart racing.
This was dangerous! He had just recovered from a wave of self-reproach. He didn't want to fall back into such feelings.
The next day, Raegan was ready to be discharged from the hospital and return to the villa.
As she left, she avoided saying goodbye to Mitchel. She consoled herself with the thought that avoiding him would help suppress the incipient thoughts in her heart.
She told herself that she was so easily moved because of her condition.
His disability somehow amplified his melancholic aura. That's why he couldn't control his emotions, feeling sympathy or pity.
In any case, Raegan sensed that this was a worrying sign.
Back at the villa, instead of finding peace, the image of Mitchel trying to get up from his wheelchair tormented her. That scene had been deeply etched in her mind. She finally realized how much she had wanted to be there, to encourage him to get up.
The weather in Aurora was always unpredictable. Like now, heavy snow had suddenly started falling outside.
As Raegan looked out the window at the snowfall, she felt a chill, even though she was inside a warm room. It was just a psychological effect, but she wasn't used to Aurora's weather yet.
Looking out at the snow, I thought about how difficult it must be for Mitchel, given his old injury.
The vivid image of him, alone in this foreign land and enduring pain, kept surfacing in her mind. This mental image again affected her deeply.
Raegan remembered a little trick her grandmother had taught her to protect herself from the cold and soothe old wounds.
Without hesitation, he quickly grabbed his phone, typed in some detailed instructions and sent them to a known number.
After sending the message, her anxiety grew as she held onto the phone, waiting for Mitchel's response.
Anxiously, 60 seconds later, his reply came. âI have tried it. It works fine. Thanks.â
That simple, impersonal âthank youâ after such a short wait crushed all her emotions. What had she been waiting for?
Raegan silenced the phone and lay back on the bed, feeling foolish for what she had done. Especially when she remembered his words from the other day. âIf you want to know something, just ask me directly. Thereâs no need to beat around the bush.â
She slapped her forehead in frustration. What was she doing? It really looked like she was trying to lure him in. How embarrassing!
Raegan's insomnia the night before caused her to wake up later than usual in the morning.
When she finally got out of bed, Erick called her to talk about the upcoming baby shower.
At first, Erick hadn't wanted Raegan to get involved in something so dangerous. However, he knew that the cunning Davey would probably suspect something if Raegan was absent. That could be disastrous.
