Reflecting on the conversation between Eloise and Bryce, Raegan hesitantly asked, “How come I didn't see Eloise with you?”

Sitting in his wheelchair, Mitchel stared straight ahead as he replied, “You have your own business to attend to. There’s no need for you to stay by my side.”

Raegan paused, then suggested, “You should keep an eye on her. “She’s in a strange place, and it would be a shame if she got into trouble.”

"Isn't he always with Bryce?" Mitchel commented.

At the mention of Bryce, a pang of worry tightened in Raegan's chest.

He continued: “But doesn't Bryce really care about Eloise? “It would be wise to keep a closer eye on her.”

Mitchel took a moment before replying, “Bryce may seem indifferent, but he wouldn't overlook Miss Benton if she was truly in danger.”

Miss Benton? Raegan noted Mitchel's formal manner of addressing Eloise, which seemed far too distant. However, considering Mitchel's typically reserved demeanor, she reasoned that such formality might not be out of place.

Raegan advised, “After all, she came here for you. If something were to happen to her, it would affect you too, wouldn't it? Raegan’s concern stemmed from Eloise’s flippant comments about her wanting to sleep with many men.”

Although Raegan understood it as a joke, the possibility of Eloise actually visiting a bar made her uneasy. Security in Aurora was notoriously lax compared to Ardlens.

Mitchel frowned. “She's an adult capable of making her own decisions. Why should I care about that?”

Surprised by his reaction, Raegan blurted out, “You two aren't in a relationship?”

This question made Mitchel pause. He raised his gaze to meet Raegan's, and his dark eyes made her cheeks flush. He asked, “Have you asked so many questions because you think Eloise and I are in a relationship?”

Raegan's heart skipped a beat at his words. Wasn't that what she'd thought? Weren't they in a relationship after all?

“I wasn't asking too much,” Raegan replied. “It just seemed like you didn't care that much about her.”

Mitchel replied calmly: “She has family, friends, and eventually she will have men who care about her. Why should I care about her? “We don’t have any special relationship.”

With such a direct answer, Raegan realized that she would be foolish if she didn't understand what he meant. Suddenly, his thoughts became agitated. It turned out that she had completely misunderstood the situation between Eloise and Mitchel.

Mitchel looked at her and said, “If you want to know something, just ask me straight away. There’s no need to beat around the bush.”

Raegan was speechless. She went over her previous questions.
