Chapter 1033

Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook

Chapter 1033:

? ? ? ? ?

The next day, Mitchel finally regained consciousness. When he opened his eyes and saw the woman sitting next to his bed, he thought he was still trapped in a dream. He hesitated to reach out his hand, fearing that the dream would be shattered by just touching it.

Raegan had just arrived. She had tried to sleep the night before, but had not rested well, tormented by nightmares in which Mitchel had died, her mind a whirlwind of anguish.

That restless night had left her eyes swollen in the morning, although a few cold compresses had relieved some of the swelling.

Seeing Mitchel awake and staring at her without moving, Raegan spoke softly. «You are awake. “I’ll have the caretaker come and help you wash.”

When she turned to call the caretaker, Mitchel reached out and took her hand, his voice breaking slightly: "Isn't this a dream?"

His question was steeped in vulnerability, his grip seeking confirmation of reality. The warm touch of his hand assured her that he was awake.

These days, Mitchel's sleep had been fitful, somewhere between sleep and wakefulness, a liminal state in which reality seemed elusive.

He didn't want to fully wake up, unable to face the reality that Raegan might actually be married to someone else. It seemed surreal to him and, despite his efforts, he could find no evidence to prove otherwise. But whether he accepted it or not, it seemed to be the truth.

“Raegan,” he whispered her name.

Raegan responded without turning, “I'm not gone. “Go wash up and then eat something.”

Mitchel was surprisingly obedient, allowing the caregiver to help him wash and even managing to eat some breakfast.

When he finished, Raegan sat back down next to his bed.

Only then did Mitchel realize that she was wearing a black wool coat that was too big for her and hung loosely from her body, clearly alien to her.

The garment was unmistakably masculine. Mitchel had noticed Stefan carrying him in the park earlier.

Instantly, Mitchel's face took on an expression of displeasure.

The night before, Raegan had rushed out, dressed only in light clothing, and Stefan had draped his coat over her shoulders.

Later, Victor arrived with a warmer outfit, but Raegan decided to wear Stefan's coat instead.

Raegan looked at Mitchel and asked softly, "How are you feeling?"

Mitchel looked tired but tried not to show it and said, "I'm fine."

Raegan's eyes watered and she whispered, "How can you say you're okay?"

Seeing her teary eyes, Mitchel felt a pang of sadness. He put his hand to his side, but stopped a breath away from the bed, as if an invisible barrier was holding him back. He could ignore her reputation, but considering that Raegan might stay in Aurora for the long term, he had to be cautious…

"I'm sorry," he said. "Have I scared you?"

"No. Raegan's voice was strained. "I don't scare that easily."

Raegan knew she was the cause of his knee injury. If he hadn't insisted on confronting Lorenzo's threat to protect her before dying, he wouldn't have gotten such a serious injury.
