The One Night Stand Turns Out To Be My Professor
60
Sophiaâs POV
I drained the blood I was drinking down the sink and finished the cup quickly then zoomed off to the door to open the door.
I gasped when I saw that it was Ian and the other standing there. My mouth spread in a wide grin which Ian didnât reciprocate. I frowned. What was going on? What was wrong?
I moved to the side so they could come in and I closed the door behind me. âWhatâs with the looks? Whatâs going on?â I asked.
âYou didnât call me to tell me that you both were being watched,â he answered, his voice accusatory. I frowned. What was he saying? I didnât understand.
âI donât understand you,â I said slowly. âWeâre being watched. I mean you are the one who put men outside to watch over us arenât you?â
âIâm not talking about them. Iâm talking about the person that Jenny saw watching her,â he answered.
âWhat person? There was no one watching us. Jenny never told me such,â I told him, shaking my head. âShe was probably joking.â
âThis is a joke?â Jacob asked as he began typing something on his phone and then a voice was playing. It was Jennyâs voice.
âThereâs someone watching me. Thereâs someone watching me here andâand Iâm scared. Please get back to me the moment you get this please. Iâm scared. Theyâre coming for me.â
I went cold all over, my body paling.
âWhen did she send this?â I demanded, raising a brow at them.
âI received it yesterday,â he answered.
I turned around and marched in the stairs, a scowl taking over my face second by second as I made my way to Jennyâs room. She had told me that she was sick and she didnât want to go to school today and I had offered to stay with her.
Was this the reason why she said she was sick? Did she lie to me?
âJenny what the hell?â I demanded, pushing the door open aggressively.
She sat up on her bed slowly, her face looking dull.
âWhat do you mean?â She asked, her eyebrows shooting up in confusion.
âWhat do I mean?â I repeated and scoffed. âYou couldnât tell me that someone was stalking you but you could tell Jacob? The same Jacob you claim to hate? What the fuck?!â
âSophia calm downâ¦â
âYou trust a person you hate to keep you safe but not me?â I continued and shook my head in disappointment. âI expected more from you. What the hell? Is that why you told me you didnât want to go to school today? You lied that you were sick just because you didnât trust me to keep you safe?â
âWhen we get to school, we go our separate ways. How would you have kept me safe?â She shot back.
âIâd have found a way if you had told me the truth, for fuckâs sake! Stop trying to defend yourself! You are in the wrong and you thinkâ¦you think what youâre saying now makes sense?â I demanded. âWhy didnât you tell me? You thought I couldnât keep you safe?!â
âNo Iâ¦I didnât want to scare you,â she murmured, her voice shaking. âI didnât want you to get agitated or panic.â
âWhat the-â
âSophia thatâs enough,â Ian said, coming in. He stood in front of me, blocking my vision of Jenny. He raised my chin so I was looking into his eyes.
âItâs okay,â he repeated.
âItâs not,â I answered, shaking my head. âI would have done everything to keep her safe if she had told me but yet she ran to tell Jacob? It makes me seem like I am not trying to protect her at all. She told me she was sick and I J stayed back hee because her safety was what was on my mind. Not mine. Herâs. And then I find out from you guys that someone was watching her?â
âLook at me, Soph,â Ian told me in a calm voice. âItâs okay. Come with me.â
I looked at Jenny, who was hugging her pillow and crying. I gritted my teeth and turned around, walking out of the room with Ian. We went into my own room and he sat me down on the bed, then sat next to me. He kissed the side of my lips.
âBe calm,â he told me. âI need you to be calm. Okay?â
âOkay,â I answered, nodding my head and taking deep breaths to remain calm.
âDonât get mad at her,â he said but I shook my head.
âNo. Donât tell me to not get mad at her. I am mad at her. I canât help it,â I told him. âWhat she did was bullshit. She should have told me first.â
âI agree she should have told you first,â he answered, nodding his head. âBut she didnât because she had her reasons.â
âAnd what reasons are those?â I asked with raised eyebrows. âShe didnât want me worried? She didnât want me panicking? Well guess what, Iâm worried and Iâm panicking now.â
âStill,â he said and remained quiet for a while as if he was searching for thee right words. âYour anger is justified. But you canât stay angry at her forever.â
âI know. But let me stay angry at her for a while.â I replied and sighed then rested my forehead on his. âI missed you.â
âI missed you too,â he answered and intertwined his hands with mine.
âHow did everything go in the realm?â I asked him softly.
âWeâve sorted everything out. Iâve been crowned. And Iâm supposed to be there three times in a week. They asked to see you,â he answered.
âI can go with you,â I offered but then he straightened and shook his head.
âNo.â
âWhy not? They asked to see me,â I reminded him and he shook his head again.
âYes they asked to see you but I donât trust them, Sophia. Itâs not safe for you,â he reminded me. I sighed.
âNo place is ever safe for me. This place isnât safe for me and that place isnât safe for me. Will I ever get a place thatâs safe for me?â I pressed my lips together in a grim smile.
âTrust me, Sophia. This place is safer than the realm for you. The moment you step in, theyâll kill you,â he said.
âYou canât know for sure,â I argued.
âI canât risk it,â he replied, shaking his head.
âWhat about Freya? Her family? They didnât try to act funny?â I asked in an attempt to change the topic.
He shook his head. âThey were the one starting the rebellion,â he explained. âTheyâre dead. Iâve killed them.â
The news hit me as a shock and the only thing I could manage to say was âOh.â
He sighed and kissed my forehead. I could hear footsteps approaching and then there was a light knock on the door. âSophiaâ¦can I speak to you?â Jenny asked, standing by the doorway.
âNo,â I answered curtly but Ian shot me a look before getting up from the bed.
âYou can speak to her,â he said instead and I pursed my lips, frowning at him.
He left the room and Jenny came in, walking as if, if she took the wrong step then I might just go all crazy on her and rip her throat out. I rolled my eyes.
âIâm sorry,â she said in a shaky voice. âI was so scared I didnât know what to do or who to talk to and the first thing I had was call him. I swear it wasnât intentional.â
âThatâs bullshit. You call a guy you claim to hate,â I reminded her. âOr do you feel something for him now?â
Her hand went to the necklace she had been wearing for almost two weeks now and she rubbed it, avoiding my gaze. âOf course not.â
âHeâs the one that gave you that vervain necklace, isnât it?â I asked. I had known it was vervain the moment I saw it. I had smelt it. But she said she saw it in a store and bought it so I chose to believe her. âWhy did you lie to me about that too?â
âIâm sorry, Iâ¦â She trailed off. âI was embarrassed.â
âYou donât have to. I donât get why youâd be embarrassed,â I murmured and shook my head. âCome here,â I said and pulled her into my arms for a hug. She began to cry.
