Chapter 453
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Chapter 453
When Old Mr. Johnson heard this, his expression froze for a moment. He picked up
the glass of water beside him, took a sip, raised his eyes, and looked at Rachel. âItâs nothing serious. I
just want to talk to you about the engagement. I wonder if youâve thought about it?â
Actually, Old Mr. Johnson had an impulse for a moment. He was worried that he would survive the
operation and wanted to tell Rachel about the engagement.
But now that he was safe, he selfishly wanted to keep this secret to himself forever. Sometimes, there
were things that were not necessarily good to be known.
Perhaps the current life was the best for Rachel.
âGrandfather, can you tell me why you insist on me calling off the marriage with David? Back then, you
strongly objected to me being with Louis. Was it because of the difference in family background or
because of this engagement?â Rachel stared at Old Mr. Johnson with a burning gaze, and her eyes
were filled with persistence.
Old Mr. Johnson frowned slightly and said firmly, âSo what if I know? This marriage will be canceled
sooner or later!â
âGrandpa, are you hiding something from us? Rae-Raeâs marriage came so suddenly. Youâve never
mentioned it before. Now, youâre insisting that she call off the marriage. Is there some⦠secret behind
this marriage?â Lucas looked at Old Mr. Johnson in confusion.
Old Mr. Johnson looked up and glared at him angrily. âWhat secret could there be? Itâs just that your
aunt once owed a favor and used Rae-Raeâs marriage to return it. Iâm just feeling sorry for her. If the
young lady marries into such a faraway place and is unfamiliar with the place, wonât she be bullied to
death later?! Besides, what kind of place is the Jones family? There are so many people. Theyâll eat
her up later!â
âLook at you guys. Iâm always thinking for you, but you guys are suspecting my intentions. Youâre really
mistaking a good man for a bad one!â
Lucas was scolded badly. He rubbed his nose awkwardly and muttered softly, âThereâs clearly a
problem with your attitudeâ¦â
âYou brat, I think you need to be taught a lesson!â Old Mr. Johnson said as he grabbed a pillow and
threw it at Lucas.
Lucas dodged nimbly and grabbed the cigarette box on the coffee table. âI can go out and smoke,
right?â
âGo, go, go. You, too.â Old Mr. Johnson was anxious and chased Rachel out together. âIâve raised you
for nothing all these years. You actually suspect my intentions!â
Rachel did not know whether to laugh or cry. Seeing Adrianâs suggestive eyes, she had no choice but
to leave early.
Lucas and Rachel walked into the elevator one after another.
âWhy did Grandpa get angry as you mentioned your marriage?â Lucas thought of Old Mr. Johnsonâs
angry face and revealed a helpless expression.
Rachel raised her eyebrows slightly and smiled intriguingly. âHe was not angry. He clearly didnât want to
continue this topic.â
However, the more Old Mr. Johnson was like this, the more curious Rachel was about the origin of this
marriage.
Her intuition told her that her grandfather knew the origin of this marriage. However, for some reasonâ¦
Perhaps there was something involved behind the marriage, so her grandfather did not want to say and
insisted that she break off the engagement.
Rachel sighed deeply and walked into the elevator.
The two of them had just entered the elevator when Darcy slowly walked out of the stairwell.
He stared at the elevator Rachel was in with a complicated and dark gaze.
