Chapter 438
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Chapter 438
When Darcy saw Rachel, a smile appeared on his deadpan expression. âMiss Grey.â
Davidâs eyes narrowed slightly upon seeing Darcy. Hostility rose from within the depths of his eyes.
His sharp gaze was like a knife stabbing at Darcy.
Darcy raised his head and face David fearlessly. The smile on him suddenly appeared more
provocative.
He knew that Davidâs men had been following him.
He also knew that he was being watched.
But so what if David knew?
He had known Rachel since shoo
was just a little girl, whereas David was someone
whom Rachel met recently. There was no way their brief encounter could undermine the years of
friendship he had with Rachel.
Darcy lowered his eyes and noticed the ring on Rachelâs finger. He kept up the smile on his face, but
the expression in his eyes turned ominous.
âDarcy, are you unwell?â Rachel looked at him.
Darcy smiled faintly and said, âI am here to visit Mr. Johnson. I heard he was hospitalized.â
âI am here to see grandfather too. Letâs go in together.â
âOkayâ
David followed behind Rachel but was stopped by her. âGo back and rest now.â
She blocked him from moving forward while she held the elevator door open with one hand.
David arched his eyebrows slightly. He lowered his voice, and in a deep tone, asked, âSo heartless?â
âPick me up after you have rested,â Rachel said. âWe can have dinner together tonight.â
Finally, she imitated how David usually caressed her cheeks and did the same to him. âBe good.â
David chuckled and remained in his spot. He watched as Rachel turned and head into the elevator.
In the elevator, Darcy kept looking at Rachelâs ring. After some hesitation, he could no longer help but
ask, âMiss Grey, is it time for congratulations?â
Rachel was stunned for a moment at his question. But she smiled and replied, âIâm not sure yet.â
That meant it was bound to happen, sooner or later.
Darcy understood what she meant. He lowered his eyes to hide his dark intentions.
Suddenly, Rachel thought of something. âDarcy, have you ever heard grandfather mention anything
about my engagement?â
Since her grandfather brought Rachel back to the Johnson family, Darcy had been by her side to take
care of her and teach her. Though he was always around her like a bodyguard, he was more of a family
to her.
When she was 18 years old, Darcy left the Johnson family.
After he left, his relationship with the Johnson family did not fade but became stronger.
Therefore, she thought that perhaps Darcy would know something about her engagement.
âIâve heard Mr. Johnson mention it before.â Darcy said, âButâ¦â
âBut what?â Rachelâs became wide-eyed with curiosity.
Darcy raised his eyes to look at her. His gaze took on a serene yet meaningful look. He spoke in a low
and solemn tone, âMiss Grey, are you really going to fulfill that wrongful engagement? How well do you
know Mr. Jones? Have you heard any rumors about him?â
A wrongful engagement?
Was there some secret behind this engagement?
Rachel looked surprised at first, but quickly regained her composure. âDarcy doesnât seem to approve
of him.â
âNo, I donât!â Darcy stared at Rachel with a complicated expression. âI donât want anything else. I just
want you to be healthy and safe.â
Darcyâs forthright answer left Rachel bewildered.
At this moment, the elevator door opened, and Darcy said, âAfter you, Miss Grey!â
There was no change in his expression. His attitude was as respectful as ever, as if the conversation
just now never took place.
