Chapter 398
My Mute Bride
Chapter 398 Life on the Line âJolly, where are you going?â Rachel chased Jolly all the way through an alley and ran into the parking lot at the entrance of the town.
Jolly looked anxiously at the distant hills, turning her head and saying, âLeroy called me and said that he got into a car accident on the mountain. My calls canât get through now.â
Rachel was shocked, but she quickly soothed Jollyâs ruffled feathers. âDonât worry. Call the police and the fire department first.â
âI want to find him.â
âOkay. Iâll go with you. Wait for me. Iâll go back and get the car keys.â
âIâll drive you.â
Justinâs voice came from behind. He hadnât even taken off his apron before hurrying after them.
He drove here on his own, and the car was parked right next to them.
Jolly froze when she opened the car door.
Rachel gave a nudge and reminded her. âLetâs go! Leroy is waiting for you.â
Only then did Jolly recover. At this moment, she couldnât care less about anything else as she hurriedly climbed into Justinâs car.
They drove out of the town and onto the winding road.
Along the way, Rachel called the fire department.
âDonât worry. The police have already been dispatched.â
It was completely dark. There was no one on the mountain road, and there was even fog.
They were driving fast, and the lights in the car were dim. Only the street lights on the mountain road outside flickered as they passed, shining on Jollyâs pale face.
âItâs foggy.â Jolly stared out the window, her face turning for the worse.
Accidents were prone to happen when it was foggy, and it also meant that it would be harder for the fire department to rescue him.
Where the hell is Leroy?
Rachel reminded Justin, âDrive slower. Safety first.â
âDonât worry.â
He said those two words in a concise manner to reassure them.
Rachel held Jollyâs hand tightly. It was useless to say anything comforting at this moment.
After driving for half an hour, Jolly suddenly exclaimed, âStop!â
Rachel hadnât figured out what was going on yet, but Jolly pointed to a place outside the window. âI see him! Right there!â
Justin parked the car on the side of the road immediately, and the three of them got out of the vehicle.
Due to the heavy fog, they didnât see the accident on the roadside when they got out of the car. So it wasnât until they followed Jolly and ran closer that Rachelâs expression changed, and her knees softened.
Justin reacted quickly and held her up by the shoulders.
At this moment, a silver sedan was shaking as it hung off the cliffâs edge. The driverâs seat was hanging in the air. Below that was an abyss, and a figure could be faintly seen in the driverâs seat.
Jolly was so terrified that her soul nearly left her body.
âLeroy!â She dared not shout loudly or even touch the car for fear that it would lose its balance and fall off the cliff if she even laid a single finger on it.
A faint male voice sounded from the car, penetrating the mist. âJolly, is that you?â
âItâs me! Leroy, you can hear me!â
Jollyâs voice was trembling, and her eyes were red-rimmed. âAre you okay?â
âIâm okay. Donât be afraid. Iâm sorry, baby. My phone fell, so I couldnât contact you. I made you worried.â
âWhy are you still thinking about your phone?!â Jolly was about to burst into tears.
âYou said that I have to be on call 24 hours a day and that I canât not answer your callsâ¦â
âStop talking! Stop talking!â
Jolly was almost about to break down as she turned back and shouted, âWhy isnât the fire department here yet?!â
At this moment, Justin ran over with a rope. âStop yelling. Tie this to his car.â
The other end of the rope was already fastened to Justinâs car.
Justin stopped talking to her and did it himself, after sensing that Jolly would be of no help in her petrified state, and tied the rope to the carâs rear.
âWhat should we do now?â Rachel asked him.
âLetâs see if we can drag the car up.â
âWhat if it flips over?â Jolly hurriedly stopped Justin. âWhat if you canât pull it, or the rope isnât strong enough?â
That was indeed a possibility.
Justin looked around. âIt may take a while for the fire department to arrive. How about this? Iâll call them and ask when theyâll arrive. Wait here.â
âItâs too late.â
Rachel suddenly saw that the road on the cliffâs edge was beginning to split, and Leroyâs rear tires had started to slide toward the cliffâs edge.
Jolly was instantly frightened. âLeroy!â
Rachel grew anxious. âWhat should we do now?â
Justin immediately got into the car without responding to them, started the engine, and drove in the opposite direction of the cliff.
There was a loud screeching noise, accompanied by Jollyâs screams. Leroyâs car tilted slightly, and the front wheel that had been floating sideways hit the cliff, creating a loud noise. Earth and rocks fell, making the scene all the more terrifying to watch.
The rope pulling the car was taut.
However, Justinâs car was obviously not as heavy as Leroyâs Jeep, so he was dragged a little and slid toward the cliff.
âNo! This wonât work!â
Rachelâs face paled. âItâs not heavy enough. Both cars will go down!â
Jolly suddenly recovered to her senses and opened Justinâs car door before getting in without hesitation.
âWhat are you doing?â Justin glanced at her. âGo down.â
âThe car isnât heavy enough, right?â
âDo you think your weight is enough? Hurry up and go down. Donât create trouble!â
Jolly gritted her teeth and fastened her seat belt, âNo!â
âI think the both of you are crazy!â
Rachel became an outsider in the end. She felt extremely anxious as she watched Justinâs car dragging toward the cliff little by little. âYou guys! Come down quickly! It wonât hold anymore! Itâs too dangerous!â
Jolly watched through the rearview mirror as the distance between them and the cliff gradually shortened, so she gritted her teeth. âJustin, this has nothing to do with you. Get down. Iâll drive!â
Justin frowned and glanced at her. âOkay. You get out of the car, and weâll change seats.â
Jolly immediately got out of the car.
However, she found that she couldnât open the door when she got to the driverâs seat. âJustin! Open the door!â
Justin glanced at her through the car window, his eyes set with determination.
How could he let a woman die?
Jolly was Rachelâs best sister. In the past, he had indirectly killed Hans and Nancy. Today, he couldnât just stand by and watch Rachelâs best friend die, right?
Jolly suddenly understood Justinâs intentions, so she frantically slammed the car door. âAre you crazy?
What does this have to do with you? B*stard! Come out right now! I donât want to owe you this!â
Justin was unperturbed as he stepped on the accelerator all the way to the end, and it barely controlled the speed of the carâs descent.
At this moment, the rope connecting the two cars was extremely taut, and it was possible that it would break apart at any moment. The rear tires of Leroyâs car were nearly leaving the cliff, so this rope was completely supporting the whole vehicle.
Rachelâs heart almost jumped out of her throat as she called the fire department in a frenzy.
âSorry, the number youâve dialed is temporarily unavailable. Please call again later!â
âJustin, donât let go of the gas! The fire department is almost here!â
She shouted in anxiety, fearing that both cars would fall off the cliff in the next second.
