Chapter 252
My Mute Bride
Chapter 252 A Battle of Two Men Lisa stuffed the bouquet of roses into Rachelâs arms and reminded her, âThereâs also a card inside.â
When Rachel saw the card, Lisa started to ambiguously read it out loud. âCongratulations to my dear Chris for letting go of the past and accepting her new life. I love you.â
Instantly, it caused a huge uproar within the office. âDid President Burton give you this?â âOh my God, I didnât expect him to be such a romantic person since he rarely smiles.â
âWhat do you know? Men are usually romantic when they meet the person whom they love.â
As she perused the contents on the card, Rachel felt a little resigned. She didnât even need to think to investigate who gave the flowers from this blatant style of writing. âItâs not him. You all have misunderstood.â
However, the crowdâs roar instantly overwhelmed her explanation.
âAlright. We had enough of you two love birds. Itâs time to slice the cake.â
âShe needs to blow the candles first.â
âThatâs right. Congratulations on your promotion, Chris. I hope that you are treating us to dinner tonight.â
Now that the office was filled with laughter and chatter, Rachel remained quiet and agreed to treat everyone to a meal while she held the large bouquet of roses in her arms.
Meanwhile, in the presidentâs office upstairs, Justin was reading through some documents and noticed that the cup next to him was already empty. âMiss Evergreen.â
He called his secretary to serve him more tea, but there was no response.
A while later, he noticed that his cup was still empty, so he immediately furrowed his brows and went out the door. Then, he saw several secretaries gathering around each other as if they were discussing something.
âWhat are you all looking at?â His cold voice was heard.
When the secretaries heard his voice, they instantly rose in shock. âPresident Burton!â
The phone fell on the floor, and for some reason, someone had accidentally played the video on the screen.
The screen on the phone was showing the celebrations at Burton Pharmaceuticals.
In the video, Rachel was holding a large bouquet of roses while Lisa read out the contents of the card.
âCongratulations to my dear Chris for letting go of the past and accepting her new life. I love you.â
âDid President Burton give you this?â
Although the scenes on the phone were extremely noisy, Justinâs eyes were locked on the woman standing in the middle. As he stared at her joyful face while she held the roses, his cold face immediately darkened.
âChris, arenât you having dinner with us?â
âItâs fine. You guys can go by yourselves. Feel free to eat anything you want. You donât have to save money for me.â
Before it was time to get off work, Rachel handed her credit card to Lisa so that she could treat her colleagues to a meal.
It was due to what Janice had said earlier this afternoon that Rachel wasnât in the mood for a meal.
However, at the same time, Rachel didnât want to stop her colleagues from having fun, so she simply gave an excuse and promised to eat with them the next time.
âDonât worry, we wonât go easy on you. Letâs go.â
âHave fun.â
She was the only one left in the office because she decided to work overtime tonight. After she finished her first draft since her promotion, she noticed that it was about time for her to leave, so she packed up her stuff and left with that bouquet of roses.
The reason why she had left so late was because this bouquet of roses was too eye-catching, so she wanted to wait until most people in the building had left first.
Ding!
The door slowly opened when the elevator arrived on her floor.
Rachel was startled by the figure standing inside just as she was about to enter.
As their gazes met, Justinâs face grew cold when his eyes landed on the roses in her hand.
When the doors were about to close, he suddenly pressed a button while he asked coldly, âArenât you leaving?â
Rachel tightened her grip around the flowers and she composed herself before entering the elevator.
âThank you.â
Slowly, the elevator went downstairs.
âWho gave you these flowers?â His voice was heard from behind her.
âA friend.â
âWhy would a friend send you so many roses?â Rachel furrowed her brows and remained silent.
Seeing that she wasnât responding to his question, Justin was more gloomy as he continued to question her. âWho gave it to you? Is it Julian? Or, is it that foreigner whom I saw the last time?â
At this point, she could no longer hold back her emotions. Upon hearing his words, she immediately turned around and coldly answered, âIn what capacity are you questioning me? Itâs none of your business as to who sent this to me.â
Immediately, his expression darkened as he grabbed her arm. âOf course itâs my business. I have the right to know what man my daughterâs mother is in contact with.â
âLet me go!â Rachel could feel the pain coming from her wrist, so she started to struggle while her screams echoed within the elevator. âJustin Burton!â
However, Justin refused to release his grip on her; he even pressed her entire body against the wall of the elevator while ignoring her shaky feet. âI donât care what man you are in contact with, but this is a public office. Everyone here knows that you are my ex-wife, so what do you think others will say when they see you blatantly flirting with another man? Are you trying to embarrass me or your daughter?â
âJustin, donât you dare insult me!â
âAm I insulting you? Or, are you the one who is insulting yourself?â
Then, the elevator door finally opened.
Justinâs cold gaze landed on something in the distance across Rachelâs shoulder.
He could clearly see a white convertible sports car parked at the entrance through the glass door of the hall. At the same time, a man in a floral, vacation shirt was leaning against the car door in a manner that did not resemble an attorney. His curly brown hair seemed to be lit up by the setting sun.
âChris!â
Upon hearing his call, Rachel was startled. Hernandez?
Justin had already let her go and he was now walking toward the entrance in strides.
âJustin!â She quickly ran over to him, but the bouquet of roses made her actions very eye-catching.
Even though most people had already got off work, there were still many who were drawn by what was happening. âWhat are you doing?â She stood in front of Hernandez to protect him. âDonât forget that we are still at the Burton Group. Many people are looking at you!â
Justin had already unbuttoned his cuffs and was now clenching his fists. The violent veins on his forehead revealed his displeasure. Without looking at her, he asked Hernandez, âDid you give her these flowers?â
After scanning Justin from head to toe, Hernandez furrowed his brows and replied, âItâs you again? So what if it was me?â
âGo away,â Justin coldly uttered to Rachel.
However, she stood firm. âWhat do you want?â
As for Hernandez, he seemed to have understood the manâs intention, so his lips curled upward to reveal a fearless smile. âChris, you can step aside. This is a battle between two men.â
She furrowed her brows. âHernandezâ¦â
âDonât worry, we have a way to settle this in peace.â He raised his chin toward Justin with a proud and disdainful expression. âDo you dare to compete with me in a fair fashion like a man?â
Justinâs eyes only grew colder. âYou are now in Riverdale. This is my domain, so I accept your challenge.â
Hernandez touched his nose and sneered, âDonât get too ahead of yourself.â
At the moment, Rachel seemed to have become a mass of air as the two men completely ignored her.
They even left her alone at the entrance of the Burton Group.
