Chapter 241
My Mute Bride
Chapter 241 Setup Rachel let go, causing the back of Amberâs head to slam against the wall. Amber wanted to let out an ear-piercing shriek but her voice was caught within her throat, and she stared wide-eyed at Rachel, feeling so terrified that she couldnât make any sound.
âLet go of her.â The two men then let go of Amber, and she slid bonelessly down along the wall to the ground as she looked up in terror at Rachel.
The latter then squatted in front of Amber and raised a hand slightly, but Amber screamed and put her hands over her head.
âSo scared?â Rachel scoffed coldly, holding a hand over the other womanâs head for a moment before dropping it to her shoulder and brushing away a fallen leaf. Slowly, she stood up again. âItâs good that youâre scared. I trust youâll mind your own business from now on.â
Only after an insurmountable amount of time and when the alley had fallen silent did Amber lift her shaking head. After staring blankly into space for a while, she stood up and raced out of the alley, stumbling multiple times along the short distance.
Meanwhile in the office at the school, Victor was pouring Rachel a cup of tea. âSamuelâs gone off to gym class with his friends. Donât worry; Iâll stay here in school. Nothing will happen to him.â
In reply, she inclined her head. âI feel better with you here. Plus, I donât think Amber will be able to cause trouble for much longer.â
âI donât think sheâs the type to let things go easily.â
âWell, if Hudson Pharmaceuticals falls, what more can she do?â
âWhat do you mean?â
âWhile abroad, Jolly and I drafted an acquisition plan for Hudson Pharmaceuticals that has been approved by Carter Enterpriseâs internal board of directors. When Iâm done with my business on hand, the plan will be put in motion.â
âDoesnât Hudson Pharmaceuticals still have the support of the Burton Group?â
âIf Justin still supports them, I wouldnât be able to do anything to Amber.â
In an instant, Victor understood. âHudson Pharmaceuticalsâ market reputation has been pretty shoddy these few years. Even Jefferey has handed the care of the company over to a general manager. The FDA has found multiple issues, and rumors on the Internet are that Amber doesnât care much about the company and is focused solely on Burton Pharmaceuticals.â
âItâs not unusual for father and daughter to come to blows considering how capitalistic they both are.â
In truth, Rachel believed Jefferey truly did love Amber as his daughter, but he valued the future of Hudson Pharmaceuticals more. Since Amber wasnât a fool, how could she possibly allow herself to be manipulated by him?
And the moment there was a rift between them, nothing else would matter.
Once trouble descended, they would each go their own way.
Twirling the teacup in her hand, Rachel asked, âI think grandma would approve of my doings if she were still alive. Donât you think so, Victor?â
The person that Nancy was closest to in life, apart from Rachel, was Victor. Rarely did Rachel bring Nancy up to other people but in front of Victor, she couldnât help wanting to reminisce.
Solemnly, he answered, âI wouldnât know about anyone else, but I think she would support everything you did as long as you were happy.â
âWell, I canât live my life solely based on my happiness. There are still plenty of issues I have to resolve. Besides, Iâm only taking back what I deserve.â
â¦
At the Burton Group, just as Justin was leaving the morning meeting, Frankie rushed up to him to report, âAmber called you multiple times, President Burton, but I refrained from disturbing you as you were in a meeting.â
âWhat does she want now?â
âShe didnât specify, but Miss Hudson also called and brought up Miss Charlotteâs bodyguards, so I sent someone to investigate.â
âAnd what did you find?â
Frankie relayed the incident where Amber trapped Samuel in an alley this morning to him.
Justinâs expression darkened in the blink of an eye. âHow dare she do such a thing? And what about Charlotteâs bodyguards?â
Looking conflicted, Frankie answered, âWell, your instructions were to guard only Miss Charlotte, so they didnât dare to leave her side.â
âAre they stupid? Did they just watch on as Samuel was mobbed by a group of adults?â
âDonât worry, President Burton. It seems Miss Burton expected such a thing to happen and arrived in time not only to send Samuel to school, but to teach Amber a lesson as well. She scared Amber quite a bit.â
âAmber deserved it,â Justin muttered coldly. âI donât want something like this to happen again. Have two more bodyguards assigned to the kids,â he ordered.
âOf course.â
âAlso, revoke the section concerning Hudson Pharmaceuticals in last quarterâs investment plans and put the acquisition plan on hold.â
The best option for Hudson Pharmaceuticals, given its current precarious state, was to be acquired by the Burton Group.
Although Arthur had brought up the topic several times, Justin remained lukewarm to the idea. From his perspective, Hudson Pharmaceuticalsâ internal management was in chaos, and a thorough investigation had to be conducted so that a few unsavory gray market practices could be done away with prior to acquisition.
Hence, Amberâs actions today not only angered him but essentially put an end to the future of Hudson Pharmaceuticals.
However, Frankie brought up uncomfortably, âAbout Old Mr. Burtonâ¦â
âDonât worry about him. Just do what I tell you to. Iâll handle him.â
Thoughtfully, Frankie continued, âEven if we donât take into account what Amber did, I wasnât optimistic about the acquisition of Hudson Pharmaceuticals.â
âNaturally.â
âOhâby the way, President Burton, hereâs the mall event plan for Valentineâs Day. Please take a look.â
As Frankie said that, he placed a document onto the desk.
When Justin glanced at the poster titled âBlooming Valentine,â he froze slightly. âItâll be Valentineâs Day in two days?â
âYes, itâs this Friday.â Being an observant person, Frankie was careful as he added, âThe restaurants are bound to be packed to the brim on that day. If you plan on having dinner then, itâs best to make reservations for a table, a cake, and flowers beforehand.â
âReally?â
âYes, Iâll help you make reservations for cake and a table. What kind of flowers would you like?â
Finally, Justin came back to his senses and glared at Frankie. âDid I mention needing reservations?â
Flinching, Frankie answered, âDo you not need them?â
âYouâre taking more and more initiative nowadays. Why donât I let you sit behind the CEOâs desk instead?â
âNo, no, no. Itâs your seat!â Frankie shook his head sheepishly and mumbled, âI was out of turn.â
Upon flipping through the document and finding it to be acceptable, Justin put his signature on the last page. âTell the marketing department to go according to the plan, but switch out half of the red roses for the on-site bouquet arrangements with tulips. Too many red roses would just make the scene tacky.â
âOf course. Iâll let the marketing department know right away.â Taking back the document, Frankie prepared to leave.
âHold on,â Justin called out before pausing once again.
Puzzled, Frankie stopped in his tracks. âIs there something else you needed, President Burton?â
âMake them white tulips. Got it?â
âOf course. Donât worry, the marketing department can handle such a minor change perfectly.â
Glumly, Justin watched Frankie leave.
