Chapter 208
My Mute Bride
Based on what Amber understood about Justin, she knew he would surely investigate the authenticity of the footage. Justin was a skeptical person, so Amber reckoned he would definitely install surveillance cameras at important places like his bedroom. As for the rest of the matter, she wouldnât have to worry about it.
Meanwhile, Justin called Frankie with a darkened face and ordered, âTurn on the laptop in my office right now and retrieve the footage of the surveillance camera in my bedroom. Iâll send you the time.â
âPresident Burton, didnât you go hiking? Why are you suddenly,â
âJust do as youâre told.â
Frankie was startled, âYes, sir.â
Moments later, Justin received the footage from his assistant. Based on the timestamps he had provided, Frankie sent him 4 footages.
Justin clicked into the first footage and saw the familiar woman standing in front of his wardrobe while entering a password. All the 3 other footages were similarâthe woman had gone straight to his safe after entering his bedroom.
In the last footage, the safe was opened. The scene of the familiar woman taking out documents while uttering something after opening the safe made Justinâs blood boil. His fists slowly curled into a ball while he clenched them tightly to the point his knuckles were cracking. The reason she approached me and Charlotte is not because she misses us!
âHas the call ended?â Seeing Justinâs return, Rachel subconsciously glanced toward the direction of the washroom. âCharlotte is not back yet. Iâll go look for her.â
âStop there.â Suddenly, Justin hailed her in a solemn tone.
âWhatâs wrong?â Rachel was confused.
Justin clenched his fist as the content of the footage replayed in his mind. With his eyes filled with coldness, he questioned, âRachel, what exactly is your intention of coming back?â
Rachel frowned. âWho called you?â
Justin strode forward and seized Rachelâs arm. âAnswer me.â
Rachel winced as her frown deepened.
âLet go of me.â
âI asked you to answer my question. What exactly is your intention of coming back?!â
âJustin Burton!â Struggling, Rachel inhaled deeply and gritted her teeth. âDid you forget that you were the one who sent me an invitation and headhunted me from SG Pharma?â
âIndeed, I was the one who headhunted you, but you could reject it.â
âWhy should I reject it? Just because youâre in Riverdale? Just because youâre the president of Burton Group? Should I then never set foot in Riverdale for the rest of my life?â
Justin sneered. âYou sound so reasonable that you almost got me.â
âI donât care if you trust me or not.â
âWas it easy to guess the password of my bedroomâs safe?â Justin asked coldly, which stunned Rachel at once.
He knows. No wonderâ¦
Justin tightened his grip on her arm as if he wanted to break it. âIâm asking you one last time. What are you looking for? Why did you come back?â
After a short panic, Rachel forced herself to calm down but did not answer Justinâs question. âLet go of me.â
âWhat on earth were you looking for in my room?â
Justin approached Rachel while the latter exclaimed as her back was pressed against the edge of the rail. Her body was slanted, so she could fall down the hill at any time if Justin let go of her.
âJustin Burton! What are you doing?!â
A furious male voice emerged from behind Justin. Before Justin could react, he felt a gush of wind followed by a punch in his face. Julianâs forceful punch made him stumble backward, releasing Rachel in the process.
At the same time, Rachel screamed as she almost fell out from the rail. Fortunately, Julian reacted swiftly and grabbed her hand. âAre you okay?â
Rachel slumped onto the ground, ashen-faced, as she had not recovered from the shock.
Julian was irritated to see Justin who fell at the side. He grabbed Justin by the collar and gave him another punch. âHave you lost your mind? Are you actually thinking of killing Rachel?!â
Then, the two men started landing blows on each other.
Rachel held the rail and as her legs were so weak from the shock she couldnât even stand up. Seeing the scene, she had no energy to stop the two.
Julian was always gentle and kind, but at this moment, he was like an enraged lion and showed no mercy at all as he scowled fiercely. âHavenât you hurt her enough back then?! 5 years have passed, yet you still refuse to let her off. How can you call yourself a human?!â
âWhat the hell are you saying? Do you know what on earth she has done?!â Justin blocked Julianâs fist with his arm and bellowed furiously, âJulian, you must be crazy!â
âIâm crazy? You are the one who is crazy! Donât assume that all that has happened doesnât exist anymore just because youâve lost your memory. You can never make up for the hurt that youâve caused Rachel. The loss of memory is just a result of you running away from your remorse deep down!â
âRemorse?â
While Justin was stunned, Julian gave him another punch in the corner of his mouth. Immediately, a stench of blood spread in Justinâs cavity.
âThatâs enough!â A weak retort came forth. Holding the rail, Rachel stood up slowly. âThatâs enough, Julian.â
Clenching his fists, Julian gritted his teeth and let go of Justinâs collar after a while. Then, he stood up and said, âLetâs go, Rachel.â
Rachel nodded slightly and went down the hill with Julianâs support.
It was moments later only did Justin get up unsteadily. Seeing Rachel and Julian walk away. Justin could feel his temples pulsating, and he gritted his teeth hard. Rachel was the one who had an ax to grind. Furthermore, Julian was his own cousin. How could he side with her? As such, Justin wouldnât possibly believe that there was nothing between the two.
After heading home, Charlotte kept questioning Justin about Rachelâs whereabouts. âDid you make Mommy angry again? Otherwise, why would she leave without even telling me?â
âNo.â
âI donât believe it. Call Mommy. Iâm going to ask her.â
âYouâre not allowed to call her from now on. Donât bring her to our place and donât meet her too.â
Charlotte was frightened by Justinâs cold order because he had never been this stern toward her. âWhat happened, Daddy?â
Justin did not answer her question but ordered the servant, âTake good care of Miss Charlotte.â After that, he left home.
âDaddy!â Charlotte wanted to go after Justin but was stopped by the servant. âMiss Charlotte, Young Master Justin doesnât seem to be in a good mood. Itâs better to just stay here.â
Charlotte frowned as she watched Justin leave in a hurry. After a while, she went upstairs and closed the door before making a call.
âHey Samuel, itâs me.â
Meanwhile, with a sleepy look, Samuel was yawning on the other end of the line. âWhatâs up, Charlotte?â
âWhat happened between Daddy and Mommy?â
âWhat do you mean?â Samuel sounded perplexed.
âDaddy brought me home all of a sudden and doesnât allow me to see Mommy anymore. Did Mommy tell you anything?â
