Sophie and Chief Miller stood outside the police station, waiting together. Sophie had her arms crossed, feeling pretty annoyed.

"Just a chat, huh? Why did they have to kick everyone out of the station for that?"

She was not happy. These two men were definitely hiding something from her.

A moment later, Colby walked out, with Odie right behind him. Odie shook his handcuffed wrists and said, “Unlock these.”

Colby looked at Chief Miller and said, “Go ahead, unlock them.”

“Colby... the key...” Chief Miller said, looking uncomfortable.

“We don’t have the key!”

“Oh, I have it right here.” Sophie pulled out the key, handed it to Chief Miller, and Odie was promptly set free.

Odie shook his wrists and walked off without another word.

Sophie pointed at Odie and asked, “He’s just leaving like that?”

“Let him go,” Colby replied, pulling Sophie into the car.

On the drive, Sophie kept glancing at Colby, who was behind the wheel. “What did you two talk about?”

“Just some... guy stuff,” Colby said, making a zip-your-lip gesture.

“Seriously, Colby? Now you’re keeping secrets from me?” Sophie pouted, clearly upset. Colby chuckled and said, “Odie isn’t the mastermind behind all this. I already knew that. He doesn’t have the brains for something this big. At the station, he shared some of the Mintons’ secrets with me.”

“What secrets?” Sophie’s curiosity was immediately piqued.

Colby freed one hand to tap Sophie’s forehead. “Not here in the car.”

Sophie quickly understood what he meant. Cars were easy to bug. They’d talk back at Burke Manor.

Inside Burke Manor, the study was packed. Adler and Jenna were cracking nuts and craning their necks. Jenna said, “I knew you’d come back, so neither of us slept!”

Colby said, “Odie told me the Mintons’ secrets. He came to Devonport to find the real mastermind.”

Adler, visibly annoyed, said, “Can you be more specific? What secrets exactly?”

Jenna dropped her nuts, adding, “Yeah! You’re really leaving us hanging here.”

Colby calmly said, “The Mintons invested in a gambling company, known as “K’.”

The air instantly froze when Colby said that. Sophie looked to her left and saw Gordon frowning deeply. To her right, Adler and Jenna had simultaneously covered their ears.

“Actually, I just remembered, I need my beauty sleep,” Jenna said, standing up and rushing towards the door.

Adler also got up, saying, “I just remembered, I haven’t done my face mask yet. Let’s talk about this some other time.”

Just as Jenna and Adler tried to sneak out, Colby shut the door. They sulkily returned to their seats but still covered their ears.
