Chapter 890
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
Polly stared at Sophie, her breath catching in her throat.
Sophie met Odieâs eyes and said, âYep, I did it on purpose.â
A dangerous glint flashed in Odieâs eyes at her admission.
Sophie continued, âThe jewelry you sent was too extravagant. Remember, Mr. Odie, you were engaged once. How inappropriate would it be for me to wear it? I planned to pretend I forgot, but Polly here, bless her, was so eager to bring it to me. How could I accept?â
Turning to the onlooker by the door, Sophie addressed Sandy, âMs. Sandy, donât you agree?â
Sandy scoffed, âAt least youâre aware of it!â
She lost interest, linked arms with Vanessa and said, âCome on, darling, letâs go.â
Vanessaâs mind was clearly elsewhere, curious about how Odie would handle Sophie.
Once Sandy led Vanessa away, Odie finally turned to Sophie.
âBoss...â
Jonah tried to speak, but Odie cut him off casually, âSo, this was all a misunderstanding?â
âMr. Odie, youâre very perceptive. Yes, just a misunderstanding.â
Sophie stood her ground when needed and admitted fault when necessary. Considering how terrified she seemed of Sandy earlier, it didnât look like she was lying.
Odie remarked, âItâs getting late. You should go rest.â
Odieâs unusually agreeable demeanor left Sophie puzzled. Just as she was about to head upstairs with Polly, Odie suddenly said, âYou go up. She stays.â
Polly shuddered at his words.
Sophie frowned, âOdie, this is my fault. If you want to punish someone, punish me. Donât take it out on Polly!â
âMe, bully her?â Odie sounded amused, âWhen did I ever say I was going to bully her? Sophie, do you really think Iâm the kind who bullies women?â

Sophieâs retort darkened Odieâs expression.
Quickly, Sophie corrected herself, âSorry, my mistake. Mr. Odie, of course, isnât that kind of bastard. After all, men who bully women arenât very capable, right?â
âSophie!â
âMr. Odie, why get angry? Itâs not about you.â
Sophie moved beside Polly, taking her hand reassuringly, âPolly, donât be afraid. Mr. Odie promised he wonât do anything to you. This wasnât your fault. If he gives you trouble, tell me.â
Before Polly could even feel touched, Odie scoffed, âTell you? What good would that do? Youâre a prisoner at the mercy of others, with even less say than she has.â
âOdie!â
âOh? Angry now? I held back when you insulted me, Sophie. Get upstairs before I lose my temper, or you wonât sleep tonight.â
Sophie could tell Odie was in a foul mood. She squeezed Pollyâs hand firmly, but Polly whispered, âMrs. Costello, it was my fault today. If the boss decides to punish me, I have no right to complain.â
Then, she obediently approached Odie.
Sophie was still hesitant to leave, so Odie commanded sternly, âGo upstairs. Donât make me say it a third time.â
