Chapter 887
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
Sophie plopped down on the sofa, not a care in the world, and casually opened a bottle of red wine. âMy clothes are soaked. I need a new outfit.â
âYou ruined a perfectly good outfit?â Odie asked, incredulous.
âNope. I just took a bath with my clothes on.â
Odie, ready to ask another question, turned around only to see Sophie making herself right at home. He frowned deeply, struggling to comprehend.
âAre you even a lady?â
âAbsolutely, one hundred percent genuine,â Sophie replied without missing a beat.
Sizing Odie up, she shot back, âYou have the nerve to watch someone take a bath, and youâre questioning if Iâm embarrassed?â
Odie, momentarily stunned by her retort, swallowed his frustration and called out, âJonah! Get Mrs. Costello a change of clothes.â
âMake it something casual,â Sophie added.
Odie couldn't help but laugh, though clearly annoyed. âYouâre still making demands? Do you even know how expensive those clothes you soaked were?â
Sophie grinned mischievously. âCome on, Mr. Odie, like youâre ever short on cash, right?â
Choosing not to argue, Odie turned to the door as Jonah knocked. âBoss, the clothes are ready.â
Odie shot a glance at Sophie, still lounging on the sofa, then cracked open the door just a bit.
Jonah paused, a bit confused by Odie's behavior.
Odie grabbed the clothes from Jonah and tossed them right over Sophie's head.
âOdie!â she exclaimed.
âChange your clothes!â he yelled back.
After storming out and slamming the door shut, Sophie sighed in relief, only to hear a 'click' at the door. Odie tossed in a pair of high heels. âAnd hereâs your shoes. Get dressed and come out.â
'Bang!'

Sophie was certain Odie wasn't coming back in this time. She got up and peeked out the window facing the main door. Logan was nowhere in sight, and she finally relaxed. As long as Odie hadnât discovered him, everything was fine.
Meanwhileâ
In the back garden of the Dragonvein Hotel, Colby and James stood face to face.
âWho sent you?â Colby demanded, his tone icy.
âNone of your business,â James replied.
âYou almost got Sophie killed today. Do you realize that?â
James frowned. âI would protect her with my life.â
âAnd your idea of protection is jumping out of a window yourself?â Colbyâs gaze was sharp and threatening. âI donât care what deal youâve made with Gordon, but Iâm warning you, stay away from my wife. Donât cause her any trouble.â
As Colby brushed past James, James called out, âColby, your constant endangerment of her is going to get her killed someday.â
âMy wife has her own mind. Sheâs not some bird that needs sheltering. If anything happens, Iâll handle it. But... what happens between my wife and me is none of your concern, Mr. Burke. Mind your own business, or you might get burned.â
Colbyâs words hung in the air as he walked away.
James stood there, silent.
When had meddling become his role? When did Sophie stop being the girl who needed support from her past life? How much had she gone through to become who she was now?
All he ever wanted was for Sophie to live a peaceful life, free from all the scheming and manipulation. But it seemed, Sophie had changed long ago.
