Chapter 1889

Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)

Sophie tucked herself behind Harold's parents, completely unfazed by his warnings. She knew that as long as Jeremy and Liz were around, Harold wouldn't dare lay a finger on her. And that’s exactly how it went down. Harold stood there, feeling utterly helpless and frustrated. "Mom, Dad, you're spoiling Sophie! Just look at her—she takes advantage of me every day and doesn’t even treat me like her brother."

"Harold, you're the older one, so take care of your sister. A real man steps up and does the right thing. And weren’t you the one who started teasing her in the first place?"

"Tease her? Mom, seriously? With you two always around, who's ever going to mess with Sophie?"

Jeremy and Liz exchanged knowing glances and shook their heads with a sigh. Those two were just born to squabble.

"Your brother’s got your back, and now my folks do too. Feeling pretty proud of yourself, aren't you?" Harold grumbled as he left, throwing Sophie a mock-angry look.

Sophie, unfazed, stuck her tongue out at him.

In the study...

Harold barged into Gordon's room, declaring, "I’m done with all this!"

“What’s up?” Gordon asked, sitting at his desk with his usual gentle smile.

“What else could it be? It’s Sophie, again. Mom and Dad always side with her, saying I'm the one bullying her.”

Harold glanced over at Gordon, who was still engrossed in his book, and said, “Are you seriously going to marry that little troublemaker? I can’t picture her as my sister-in-law.”

“Why don’t you like her?” Gordon asked.

“...I just don’t. I can’t stand how she acts like she’s got the upper hand.”

Harold turned away, sulking. Technically, he and Sophie were childhood friends. While others enjoyed innocent and sweet friendships, theirs was anything but.

“No matter what, she’s the only woman I’ll ever marry,” Gordon said, setting his book aside. “And you’re the only brother I’ll ever have.”

Hearing this, Harold fell silent. “I know. I’ll try to get along with her better.”

“You don’t have to force it. Maybe this is just your way of connecting.”
