Chapter 1852
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
Colby raised an eyebrow, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He extended a hand towards Sophie, making her think he was being kind. But just as she reached for it, he snatched it back with a teasing grin, sending another splash of water flying. This time, it was even bigger than before.
âAhhhh!â Sophie shrieked, flailing around in the fountain and angrily smacking the water. Colby couldn't help but smirk at her reaction. There was something undeniably satisfying about a little harmless revenge.
Not far off, the red-haired guy from earlier rushed over, concern etched on his face. He quickly helped Sophie out of the fountain, fussing over her.
âSophie, what happened? Are you okay?â
He draped his jacket over her shoulders, shielding her from the cold. Colby watched the scene unfold, a strange feeling gnawing at him. They really were childhood friends, their bond unshakeable.
As the ruckus grew, Colbyâs mom appeared, her expression stern. âColby, whatâs going on? You canât just bully a girl like that. Go apologize to Sophie right now.â
Colby glanced at Sophie, who was now wrapped in Haroldâs comforting embrace, and said with a casual shrug, âSophie, Iâm sorry.â
âI donât accept your apology!â Sophie snapped, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. Colby felt the thrill of his prank fade away, replaced by an uncomfortable mix of guilt and regret.
Even though heâd only just met Sophie, something about her tugged at his heartstrings. It was a strange feeling, like he had two voices in his head.
One wanted to keep teasing her, and the other was filled with remorse.
He found some wrapping paper nearby and carefully bundled the roses together before leaving the greenhouse. A voice in his head kept urging him not to make Sophie cry again.
Colby waited on the second-floor hallway, listening to the distant sound of the red-haired guy comforting Sophie. Just like that, his resolve to apologize properly faded. He tossed the bouquet in Sophieâs direction, watching as her tears subsided.
âMy mom wanted me to give you these,â he said, looking away.
