"Daughter can be given to him, but the wife is mine."
Colby planted a gentle kiss on Sophieâs forehead and murmured, âYou know Iâve done everything I can.â
Feelings werenât something that came naturally to him. When their daughter was born, he couldnât quite wrap his head around the happiness that most people seem to experience. For him, it was always about Sophie. Only with her did he feel like a person with emotions, rather than some kind of robot.
He recalled his early years, when both his parents were still around. After being told he lacked emotions, they showered him with even more affection. But it was a sentiment he couldn't really grasp. Not until he met Sophie.
Back then, Sophie was just a sweet little girl. One day, he tagged along with his parents to visit the Russell family. Sophie was this rosy-cheeked, adorable child. That was the first time he felt the magic of life. Even after all these years, he never forgot that moment.
Fast forward to the auction entrance, and there she was again. Adler mentioned she was Sophie, the Russell familyâs heiress. It hit himâshe was that charming little girl from years ago. Maybe it was just curiosity, or perhaps an instant connection he felt when he first saw her. As he got to know her, he found himself falling for Sophie. This affection might not be what most people would recognize as love, but he knew she was as vital to him as air. He was like a man on the brink of drowningâand a drowning man canât do without air.
In the dim light, Sophieâs eyes sparkled with the same brilliance they had when she was younger. She looked at Colby and said, âWeâll keep moving forward, no matter what. Iâll always be by your side.â
They had faced life and death, weathered every storm together. Their souls were intertwined, inseparable. They were wrapped up in each other, bodies entwined as they savored each otherâs presence. A couple of drinks can make one lose themselves in the heat of the moment. With Fiona away, they clung to each other for what seemed like forever. It wasnât until dawn that Colby finally let go.
Sophie, worn out, was carried to the bathroom by Colby. Leaning against her aching back, she sighed, âIâm too old for this. We canât keep doing it like we used to.â
Colby chuckled, âThen let me do the heavy lifting from now on, you just enjoy.â
Sophie frowned, âNo chance! Letting you take over is even worse!â
âI canât let Fiona catch me looking like this. At my age, itâs just too embarrassing.â

Colby pondered, âMaybe she could stay at Adlerâs place? Theyâre hardly ever home anyway.â
