Chapter 1837
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
As the clock struck seven, it was time for the groom to come and whisk the bride away. Jenna had been on edge, keeping a keen ear out, while Sophie, standing in the bedroom, thought she heard the low hum of a car engine outside.
âThey're here,â Sophie announced.
Jenna was momentarily thrown off. âHere? Where exactly?â
They hadnât actually heard the car pull up yet, but soon enough, the sound of footsteps echoed up the stairs.
âThey're coming, they're coming! Sophie, you've got ears like a hawk!â
Adler was already geared up for the occasion, and seeing him, the others quickly gathered at the door, ready to give Gordon a surprise he wouldnât forget.
But then, the footsteps halted right outside the door.
Jenna felt a sudden wave of anticipation, as if some sort of presence was pressing in through the door.
âGordon?â Jenna asked, her voice cautious.
âYes.â Gordonâs voice came through, clear and direct.
Hearing him, Sophie couldn't hide the rosy flush creeping across her cheeks.
âUh, I'm the maid of honor, you know the drillâweâve gotta block the door!â Jenna joked, a playful grin spreading across her face. âYouâre not getting in until you answer all my questions!â
âAlright,â Gordon replied, amused.
âFirst question! What's the longest river in the country?â
âThe Mississippi.â
âSecond question! What's the second longest river?â
âThe Missouri.â
âThird question...â

âCome on, Jenna,â Adler cut in, exasperated. âYou're gonna run out the clock with these trivia questions!â
âHold your horses, Iâm almost done! Donât rush me!â Jenna waved off Adlerâs protest and turned back to the door. âThird question! What's the shortest river in the country?â
When silence followed, Jenna couldnât help but gloat, âStumped, are we? Maybe the Aldridge family head isnât as legendary as they claim.â
From outside, Gordonâs voice came, slow and steady, âDennis Group.â
Jenna blinked in surprise, âI was asking about a river, whatâs with the Dennis Group?â
âIf I donât get in today, Dennis Group might become the shortest-lived company,â Gordon replied, a hint of playful menace in his tone.
Jenna felt the weight of his words. What a guy!
Adler chimed in, âJenna, just let him in. If Gordon really decided to go after the Dennis family, they'd probably be the quickest to go bankrupt in Devonport!â
âAlright, alright, you win,â Jenna sighed, giving in and opening the door.
Standing there was Gordon, looking dapper in a sharp suit with his hair neatly styled, exuding a softer charm than usual.
âWe're trusting you with Sophie! But before you take her away...â Jenna extended her hand with a cheeky grin, making the universal sign for cash.
Adler was taken aback, almost speechless. Asking for money so bluntly? Couldnât she be a bit more subtle?
âMs. Jenna, this is a token of our appreciation for all the care you've shown Ms. Sophie over the years,â said Rick, presenting a large gift box to Jenna.
Jenna, unsure of what to expect, opened it to find a glittering array of jewelry inside. Even someone as worldly as Jenna couldnât help but catch her breath at the sight of such a lavish bridesmaid gift.
