Chapter 1743
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
Once Sophie found out she was pregnant, Harold made a special effort to bring William over. In the cozy living room, Sophie was lounging on the couch, while Colby was busy with some prenatal storytelling for the baby. Even little Danny was begrudgingly perched in his baby chair, fighting off sleep as he listened to Colbyâs tales.
When Sophie saw that the doctor Harold had brought in was William, she was momentarily taken aback. "William?"
Harold jumped in to clarify, "I brought William over to keep an eye on you. He'll be handling the check-ups and all, so we can breathe a little easier."
"But..."
Sophie turned to William, asking, "Are you an obstetrician?"
The question seemed to knock William off balance for a moment. "Uh... Yeah, sure, I am."
"But I thought you were a surgeon?"
"Uh? Oh..."
Clearing his throat, William replied, "You know how it is, a jack of all trades and all that. I've been diving into obstetrics lately and picked up quite a bit.
I can definitely look after you and the baby, no worries!"
"You're still learning obstetrics?"
"Yep!"
"Are you sure you get it?"
Facing Sophieâs doubt, William asserted, "Iâm a top-notch doctor, remember? Jack of all trades!"
Harold added his two cents, "I've dabbled in some obstetrics myself; it's really not rocket science."
Yeah, right.
Harold had managed to make sense of a few parenting books when he was looking after little Danny. But when Sophie got pregnant, he tried his hand at some medical textbooks on obstetrics.
And found himself utterly lost.
"It's just a pregnancy; you're all stressing too much."
Sophie tenderly patted her slightly rounded belly and said, "My little oneâs quite the trooper. Every couple of weeks, the folks from the central hospital come by for a check-up. Theyâve said the babyâs in great shape. Plus, with Colby looking out for me and your familyâs bodyguards and drivers on call 24/7, what could possibly go wrong?"
After Jennaâs delivery, Colby developed a bit of a phobia towards natural childbirth.
He was adamant that Sophie shouldnât go through a natural birth and had already set up a plan for a pain-free delivery.
He secured the most reputable doctors to pin down a date for the procedure.
The surgery is designed to minimize the risks and aftermath of childbirth for the mother, and itâs completely painless with a speedy recovery.
When Adler caught wind of this procedure, he was floored.
Since this type of delivery isnât common back home and requires a seasoned medical team, Adler had been in the dark about it until after Jenna's baby arrived.
Now, the baby had joined the world.
Who knows how much research Colby did or how many sleepless nights he spent planning to make sure everything about Sophieâs pregnancy was spot on.
"Well, since Iâm here, how about I go ahead and do a check-up?" William suggested, trying to sound casual.
Sophie asked, "But didnât you say youâre still learning obstetrics? You already know how to do check-ups?"
"By looking at scans! Scans are pretty much the same everywhere. I can take a scan and have a buddy of mine, who's an obstetrics expert, take a peek. Itâll put everyoneâs mind at ease."
As William spoke, he exchanged a knowing look with Harold.
Harold went along, albeit with some reluctance, "Yeah, William makes a good point. He flew all the way here; itâd be a shame not to have him do a check-up."
"Alright then."
Sophie got up from the couch.
