Chapter 1738
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
Just a week ago, Sophie and Jenna were having a good laugh about how those two big guys were totally lost trying to handle a baby.
There they were, standing at the doorway, looking a bit dazed, until they caught sight of Sophie making her way down the stairs. Jenna broke the silence first, âSophie, whereâs my little guy?â
âJenna, what brings you out so soon?â Sophie asked, surprised.
âUgh, that maternity center was so dull and suffocating, I had to escape!â Jenna replied, already moving around with an energy that belied her recent delivery.
âI really didn't realize how much of a handful having a baby could be. Tell Harold to bring my little munchkin overâIâm beat from the trip.â
Adler helped Jenna settle onto the living room sofa.
Sophie chuckled, âOh, the babyâs not with Harold anymore.â
Jenna blinked in confusion. âWait, heâs not with Harold? Then where is he?â
âHarold threw in the towel after just three days. Colbyâs on baby duty now. He just got the little one to sleep. Iâll have him bring the baby down.â
With that, Sophie dashed upstairs.
Jenna and Adler exchanged bewildered looks, trying to wrap their heads around the fact that Colby was the one babysitting.
Jenna muttered, âIs my son... still in one piece?â
âIâm wondering the same thing...â Adler said with a worried look.
Of all people, why Colby, the one with the fearsome reputation?
When did Colby ever look after a baby? Heâs more likely to send them packing!
Soon enough, Sophie and Colby came down the stairs.
Jennaâs eyes zeroed in on the tiny baby nestled in Colbyâs arms.
Much to their surprise, the baby was snug and content, not making a peep.
âNo way, is he really that chill?â Jenna asked, hardly believing her eyes as she moved closer to check out the baby.
Unlike his wrinkly newborn self, after a few days, he looked rosy and was starting to plump up adorably.
âHey there, little guy, say âMama!ââ Jenna encouraged, trying to coax out a word.
Sophie laughed, âHeâs much too young to talk yet.â
âOh right, I got ahead of myself.â
Jenna gently took her baby from Colbyâs arms.
Maybe he caught a whiff of his mom, because his eyes glistened with tears and he clung to Jenna, not wanting to let go.
His eyes seemed to say: Mama! Save me! Thereâs a monster over there!
âOh, what a sweet boy. He really is my son.â
Adler stood by, watching Jenna with the baby, and pulled a silly face at his son.
The baby didnât cry; instead, he giggled, as if he knew these were his folks.
Sophie quietly glanced over at Colby to see his reaction.
Colby hadnât said much, but his gaze was soft as he looked at the baby.
Sophie whispered, âColby, do you like boys or girls?â
âGirls.â
âWhyâs that?â
âBecause theyâre like you.â
Colby gently squeezed Sophieâs hand.
Sophie laughed, âI heard youâve been diving into baby books and even studying obstetrics. Whatâs up with that? Planning to deliver our baby yourself?â
âI just... donât want you to be in pain.â
